Baldur's Gate 3 - The Bogeyman (John Wick Inspired Build)

Hi all! I was asked to my take on a John Wick inspired build, and since I've been wanting to do "Gun-fu Master" for a while now, I decided to give it a go. The build deviated slightly from how I would build a true Gun-fu build as I leaned more into the John Wick inspiration, but I'm still happy with the result as it turned out to be very strong!
You may hear me refer to the is as the Baba Yaga, but I changed the title of this video as Baba Yaga has an actual representation in DnD. Might be a different build in the future.

Hi all! I say in this video that you can find the Durge's body in act 1. For some reason as I was recording this, I could've sworn you could find it at the start on the beach and it got moved to Orin's room in act 3. But after googling it, I can't find anything on it. My mind wasn't exactly screwed in right when I recorded this, so I might just be flat out wrong. Apologies! Edit: I was also wrong about the DnD Monks not getting bonus action unarmed strikes. I should just write this whole video off lol

Your John Wick character having Soldier-Background is lore accurate; as I understand it, Wick has a U.S. Marine Corps tattoo shown in the first movie. It's entirely likely that he was a Marine before becoming an assassin.

The backstory actually makes me think more of “max Payne” just for the idea of unraveling a massive conspiracy and killing powerful people mostly as a casualty of your vengeance.

Missed opportunity to put one of the wedding themed rings on him XD Also when it comes to making character recreations in DND settings, even if I want to keep them a no magic class, I typically like to let them have magic equipment. For example, John had access to the best weapons and armours you can get. There's no way a DND John wouldn't have the same connections. I could absolutely see him getting some crazy equipment XD Overall though, awesome build as always!

Just so you know, the Baba Yaga is a mythological figure from Russian folklore, so it is not surprising that RPGs would use this figure for their games. Baba Yaga is an enigmatic or ambiguous character from Slavic folklore (or one of a trio of sisters of the same name) who has two opposite roles. In some motifs she is described as a repulsive or ferocious-looking old woman who fries and eats children, while in others she is a nice old woman, who helps out the hero. A more like the hags from the Witcher 3.

I think the heavy crossbow can be equivalent to shotguns that John Wick uses. Additionally, a dagger/shotsword could be the improvised blade weapons in the movie. But monk levels kinda makes us lean towards unarmed strikes.

Funny point - there's actually a Baba Yaga in Vampire The Masquerade too. The Nosferatu Methuselah, if I recall right. Or the Antidiluvian. Either way. I forget which. Not bad stretching for a Russian fairy tale, to be popular enough to land in two major TTRPG settings, plus a hit movie franchise. Whether you'd see her as a tragic figure made a monster, or a monster to start who plays like she's tragic for sympathy to strike when no one expects, she's still a noteably intriguing figure. The Bhallspawn all DID die; the dark urge is a tacked on PROBLEM to the canon that Bhall is canonically returned to life (after Abdel dies canonically) so there's a BIT of a problem with that narrative... however John Wick taking down anyone who had anything to do with the dark urge/whoever killed all the Bhallspawn - you could probably do that as a tertiary goal. If I can't have revenge against the one I want, and I can't revenge myself against the one who stole it... I'll just kill everyone [Ala John takes down The High Table] Also - Have they fixed it so you CAN actually change the damned Main Character's name? "Tav" is NOT what I want to be playing my MC as. They have the option to do so; and it DOES NOT WORK.

I've never had an issue with changing the characters' names. If you're playing with mods, that might be the problem, but that's the only thong I can think of that might cause that issue.

Glad to see your take on John Wick! I made a John Wick build on a modded run through the Artificer mod that brings guns into the game. Made him a Dark Urge to represent John before the movies. Bhaalist Armor plus Sharpshooter plus Gunner was nuts as a Gloomstalker/Assassin/GOO. Those crits were nasty.

Around 11:05 you said you were confused about monks and the bonus action unarmed strike. Monks in 5E do just get to make one unarmed strike as a bonus action. Some subclasses expand upon that or give alternate options. Flurry of blows takes ki points to make two strikes. Making one strike doesn't take any ki points. You might have to make an attack with your action to be able to make the unarmed bonus action strike however. I'm not so sure about that, RAW.

Cursed build that turns a downside into a benefit. The wimplock. Take broken promises and then Immediately long rest to get minus 1 to strength. From 8 > 7. 6 levels in eldritch knight dumping into dual wielder feat + 1 asi into charisma. 3/3 bladelock/thief split, now use ek weapon bind on offhand with watchers guide and then bind preference weapon as pact weapon in main. Opportunity attacks will purposely miss to give you advantage, offhand weapon attacks miss to give you advantage... The ability to get advantage without darkness spam. It's a dumb idea.
