Hi all! Today I return from my brief hiatus with another remastered build video. I've decided to do my most popular build of all time, The Dancer of Eilistraee! This build if operating off the same idea as the previous iteration, that being trying to make something similar to a Bladesinger without that class actually being available to us. I've updated the previous build with more accurate lore knowledge, better equipment, and a new multiclass!

My favourite character I have used so far is 1 level of war domain cleric of Eilistraee, 2 levels of oath of Ancients Dex Paladin, and 9 levels of swords Bard. I stuck with using one weapon because from what I can tell followers of Eilistraee mainly use 1 longsword. I use thw obvious choice Phalor Eluve for the whole game. It's really thematic and super powerful.

If you know how to play you can use any bard/paladin combos on any level of difficulty. In my opinion it is best class combination for main character. And you can safely add 1-2 levels of any other classes to it.

THANK YOU for clarifying that this specific build works! Years ago, I played a Half-Drow Bard-Paladin in tabletop D&D (3.5 edition, so way back). I loved the goober, but his life went very south, very quickly. I dusted the character off for my first BG3 playthrough, and Act 1 has been going well so far. Unfortunately, I then discovered that the [Cleric/Paladin of X] dialogue options exist and I realized I was not going to get those without dipping a level of Cleric (or modding the game). I may re-start the run as a full-blooded Drow, rather than a Half-Drow, but it's incredibly gratifying to hear that the build will work mechanically with a 1-2 level Cleric dip at Tactician difficulty.

Eilistraee is my favorite D&D goddess. I know a lot of her lore, to include her dogma that followers are supposed to follow--from playing one so much in campaigns lol. I have never played one of her sword dancers though (which are different than her run of the mill followers due to the singing swords being few in number), so I'm glad I found this guide! Time for yet another playthrough! Edit: Trickery is actually one of her domains, after having merged with her brother Vhaerun!

the thing i love about Countercharm is that it's targetable by enemies and indestructible, so i saw a lot of enemies wasting their arrows on the harp thingy

well a dual wielding cleric of eilistraee does make more sense than you think. in dnd when some of the gods were put into mortal forms, eilistraee wielded 2 silver longswords. so using 2 weapons fits pretty well. also eilistraee usually prefers if her followers know how to play one of her favorite instruments, all of which arent in the game but she does prefer the harp, and the closest to a harp is the lyre. however that is simply a preference of hers, you just need to know how to spread music, so even just whistling is fine. eilistraee is my favorite goddess in all dnd lore so i played through with your first dancer build and ill probably play through with this build now lol. edit: also clerics of eilistraee arent allowed to use ranged weapons unless its absolutely 100% needed. the reason for this is that eilistraee almost killed her father with her bow when trying to protect him. so she swore off the bow to make sure she doesnt hurt anyone she doesnt intend to hurt.

I think her "no bows" policy may have been removed in the lore recently, as the last time I perused her wiki page it talked a lot about hunting, and I'm pretty sure it listed bows as a preferred weapon of her followers. I definitely remember the "no bows" thing from when I last played a tabletop paladin of Eilistraee well over a decade ago. Back then, none of her clergy could be male, which has also since been walked-back in the lore, thankfully.

Thank you for updating the build. The dual wielding makes my current Durge character feel even more like Revan from KOTOR which I love! Another combination that really fits is 1 Cleric, 10 Sword Bard, and 1 Wizard since Clerics of Eilistraee have Spellsong which lets them cast a variety of magic spells so Spell Scribing can imitate that. Plus spells like Magic Missile and Dimension Door.

I am currently playing a pure rogue thru act 3 and loving it. It is my first real playthru after 10+ restarts and robbing/sneaking/murderhobo-ing my way to the absolute. But this build is making me doubt if I don't want to start over and play this build. It looks amazing and the theme of a good drow trying to be the opposite of the accepted opinion of drows sound a lot of fun to roleplay. I had planned to do a durge playthru after my deep gnome thief but going all good after being just good enough to not lose my companions seem a good idea. Thank you for this build. You are one of the best bg3 content creators of yt.

Awesome build! I always loved the lore around Eilistraee and one of my main characters is currently a Life Cleric/Swords Bard as well. Only difference I made was taking Cleric to level 3 for the spiritual weapon summon (since in the lore, bladedancers and sword singers of Eilistraee can magically enhance their weapons to basically fight alongside them) and dipped one level into Wizard for spell scribing and mainly magic missile (there's a very interesting explanation as to why Eilistraee's followers and the goddess herself don't use ranged weapons, and they prefer using Magic Missile to fill that role since it never misses). You could also just get the necklace that let's you use Magic Missile in the Underdark, but in my case I also wanted some utility/flavour spells using the Intelligence boosting circlet to get more spell slots.

I've wanted to use your build for months now! I finally finished my first playthrough recently (cried a bit at the end), and started a new one yesterday. I made my buff resist durge with this build, which I think is quite funny. I imagine that she's slaying her enemies with her swords, and finishing them with Vicious Mockery (so basically yo mama them to death). Maybe not lore accurate but I'm having a lot of fun! Glad you're feeling better! Not sure if you're taking build requests/ideas right now, but there is one I'd be interested in seeing. In act 1, there is a flail you get from Flind that heals you on hit. I'd love to see a thematic build based around it that not only makes sense narratively, but is also built in a way that maximizes the potential of the weapon, and maybe plays into the risk vs. reward aspect of it.

Not bad at all, I recently did my own Dancer of Eilistrae build but I used the Boots of Stormy Clamour, thunder skin cloak, and the arcane acuity hat, quite fun but yeah I very much agree the character does feel very "main character" in a lot of ways.

I'm getting near the end of a play through with a sword dancer character of my own and I think it, so far, has probably been my favourite playstyle and RP in this game so far. It's easily one of if not THE strongest characters just from a thematic standpoint, I have a feeling I will probably make another version of it in the future 😂 I want to try it with a character on honour mode and also try to swing it without relying on the gloves of dexterity, somewhere down the line. I built mine quite differently though so I just wanted to share it here. It's definitely not an 'efficient' build but I've had very few issues on tactician. I went 1 Life Cleric/11 Lore Bard, because for this character I actually wanted cutting words and magical secrets and have her focus more on support rather DPS. Warden of Vitality & Misty Step at Bard 6 and Banishing + Thunderous Smite at Bard 10. So it's not the kind of character that's making 4-6 attacks per turn but with the Phalar Aluve Shriek + boots that give reverb when you inflict a condition, she basically just exploded everything in Act 1 & 2 without a care, everything is just CONSTANTLY debuffed. I also used the Yuan-Ti Mail until I reached the lower city, but when I finally hit the lower city I GUNNED it to Gloomy Fentonson and immediately got The Armour of Agility. I LOVE this armour, imo THE best medium armour in the game, and it looks amazing. I'm also using the Corvid Token now that I'm in Act 3 and having a lot of fun with it, amulets and rings have honestly barely even felt relevant for this character, I can't even remember what I used during Act 1 & 2 😂 Aside from that the gear is very similar. I'd recommend anyone to give this character concept a try and just do what they like with it, it's such a fun character to build and roleplay.

Mixing in the 3 rogue levels! AAAH YES Also this was so cool, I've been trying to put together a dual wielding sword dancer but for a while it seemed like Phalar + Larethian's wasn't going to work since off-hand doesn't get the weapon actions. I had no idea melody was a CLASS action and so the combination works just by swapping Phalar to the off hand. Excellent! Also the darkfire shortbow is great cause, not only is it mainly there for haste, clerics of Eilistraee are known to use bows and silver-tipped arrows as a secondary weapon. So a conservative interpretation of that would mean carrying the bow as a backup for when 1) you can't reach an opponent 2) and it's more advantageous to fire the bow than to use vicious mockery 3) or approach and spend the turn setting up. So I think in practice you probably won't be using the bow for attacking much except if a particular situation calls for it, such as an exceedingly dangerous opponent locked down from a distance, or for a gimmick fight like Grymm in the adamantine forge. Folk Hero is fantastic as a roleplaying choice, but because I love the background so much, and as I came up with a background that works with it and followers of Eilistraee are admirers of crafts and creating art, I'll still go with Guild Artisan, because the inspiration points still fit a wandering heroic figure with an artistic side for the most part. Also since I've been re-imagining my current tav as a dark urge (for a future resist durge playthrough), that means I still need a tav for my favorite background, so Guild Artisan it is! Thank you for making these videos, they've been an inspiration on more than one occasion! And congrats on 100 builds!

Watched this for some inspiration, as I thought about/started an RP run as a blade dancer of Ellistraee. I went a little differently. I'm theory-crafting a 6/5/1 Swords Bard, *War* Cleric, and 1 Sorcerer. Technically War isn't a domain of Ellistraee, but seeing as how Drow are always at odds, a priest using War isn't too far off. I went 5 War Cleric for Magic Weapon, Spiritual Weapon, Spirit Guardians, and Protection from Evil and Good. In Lore, they can infuse weapons with Ellistraee's magic, and essentially make blades dance, so floating dancing weapons, infused magic Phalar Aluve, and Nature Guardians circling you as you fight. Bard flourishes for reasons in the vid, and 6 for the extra attack and short rest flourishes. I was debating sorcerer or Wizard for that dip, because in Lore, some dancers can cast Magic Missle. I ultimately went with Sorcerer (a little hand-wavy here admittedly) since it's a charisma caster, and did White Draconic for Armor of Agathys, and took Magic missile and shield. Slightly different gear and stat spread, but you end up with around 25 AC and still dancing around the battlefield. Curious how well it works vs this build. Less "control" and more unhitttable slicing maelstrom, that still works as a party face

Glad you are feeling better, just wish they had more finesse weapons like samurai swords and cool looking sleek weapons. I do love this sword, wish could upgrade it - didn't know the Drakethroat glaive can +1, so I can upgrade it now to a +2. I got it through a religion check, but just thematically feels like an MC Sword. Apparently in the TTRPG game, the dancers can use magic missile but also have the sword spin around independently, so called a dancing sword. That would be hella cool if you could do that in game

My main build is Paladin of Selune, it is so much fun. I have started this build, it is very interesting been a Tiefling, a race viewed as outsiders and as devils by most of Faerun's populace. I am planning on making a dual wield Barbarian with Dark Urge background.

I haven't tested it but I wonder if you can make a build for a non-fighting character(more of a support) that purely uses spiritual weapon to attack. Had an idea for a character scared to fight or doesn't know how and has a family heirloom that protects them. ❤ Happy to see this Eilistraee build again, still have yet to try it though, I'm forever stuck in the loop of creating characters going through Act 1 and repeat. 😅

Ailistraee has 3 favored instruments that her followers have to be proficient in one of, the horn ( there are no horn instruments in the game), the flute and the harp, which historically, the Lyre was developed based off of (go figure), now the harp is just straight up one of her prefered instruments, but if you want to be a bit cheeky, you can take proficiency in the lyre and spoiler warning here: there is a Lyre called Spider's Lyre, which is, if you bother taking in the description of it, clearly referencing to Lolth, on some level. Personally I find it suitably fitting for a follower of Ailistraee, to take something connected with Lolth and use it as homage for Ailistraee instead, kind a dedication to rejecting the spider goddess lol.

@phantomorochi1260 Stat spread is STR 12 DEX 16 CON 14 INT 8 WIS 12 CHA 14 higher STR and DEX for proficiency in athletics and acrobatics. Background is Entertainer. It starts with one level of light domain cleric. Light is one of Eilistraee's domains, and she also actively helps her followers, whether on the hunt or in battle. Light domain gives you the warding flare reaction, which is a light that can make your opponent miss. I flavor it as Eilistraee helping you by blinding your foe. Prepared spells are guiding bolt and bless. Cantrips are produce flame, thaumaturgy, and guidance 5 levels of Sword Bard for spellcasting and the flourishes. Pick your favorite spells. Instrument is the flute. Cantrips are true strike, friends, and vicious mockery. The remaining levels go into Battlemaster for more sword attacks and riposte. Pick the maneuvers you like. A drawback is that you don't get extra attack until LV 12 but with the way its built, that doesn't matter. For my build, I wanted to lean heavily into the martial aspect of the sword dancers. Fighting styles are two-weapon fighting and defense Feats are dual wielder, savage attacker, and mobile Weapons are Larethian's Wrath and Phalar Aluve Helmet is the Shadow of Menzoberranzan Cape is the Cloak of Protection Armor is the Yuan-Ti Scale Mail Gloves are the Gloves of Dexterity Boots are the Discintigrating Night Walkers All with the black and white dye Rings are Crusher's Ring and the Ring of Free Action And the necklace is Psychic Spark I'd share share my full reasoning for these choices, but this comment is long enough already. Just read up about Eilistraee and her church, and everything will make sense.

I actually downloaded a Bladesinger mod so I could make a Dancer of Eilistraee build, mixing it with a modded Kensei monk as well that uses Flurry of Blows with swords. It's been a blast, but this is an excellent alternative.

I wonder if Underdark races are gray skinned and are literally sickened by being in sunlight (initially) because they have adapted to hyperproduce vitamin d and getting it from sun exposure makes them violently ill. They’re also going from seeing primarily in infrared to seeing wider color spectrum and super bright light.

Fun fact, you don't have to use a Drow or even a female to play this. BG3 takes place in 1492 DR. Eilistraee herself began working to include men in her clergy, starting in 1320 DR, and by 1323 all clerics of hers were aware of this and men were welcomed into their ranks.

I've been playing this very same character concept, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this video. The big difference is I was planning to go battlemaster for the last three levels (i'm still level 5) to add more utility to my attacks, and also that sweet sweet action surge. Though I guess thief would deal more damage in the long run, right? Plus cunning action is great too. Any thoughts?

I’d love to see a build of a ghost. Like a poltergeist, invisible, moving things around, possessing people, etc. Will probably be duregar for the infinite invis, most likely wizard for the spell variety and enchanter specialty and a dip of bard or sorcerer for flight and flexible casting ? I would like your opinion on a build because bards where the original spy’s I decided to make a James Bondish spy but I ended up with 2 versions the first is 4 levels of college of lore 4 levels of thief and 4 levels of shadow monk version 2 is 4 levels of college of lore 4 levels of arcane trickster and 4 levels of gloom stalker I prefer version 2 but tell me what you think and if you can come up with a better version by the way I used college of lore because it seemed more suitable for a spy

I feel like with a Spy, you want as many "gadgets" as you can get. Arcane Tricker seems perfect with the invisible mage hand to scout ahead. If you want to be able to do interesting stuff with ranged weapons, Swords Bard, Battle Master Fighter, or Gloom Stalker Ranger could be great.

someone correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt the ability modifier for equipment be wisdom? since cleric was taken at level two, it would be the "most recent caster selected"

According to the wiki, it would seem so. It's dumb though, it should just use your highest stat or the class you have the most levels in.

@@HoboZone exactly! though, for this build it wouldnt be too bad a workaround, just pick cleric at level one is all (EDIT) so, after going into this build personally, i found that starting as cleric level one would not give longsword prof, i had assumed this build got that just from being a drow. Rogue however does get longswords, so the best option to keep CHA as item modifier is Rogue 1, Cleric 1, Bard 6. it delays extra attack by another level but imo its worth it to keep item save dcs, though it does also mean that if you want to play as this exactly, this wont really come online until at least level six, so i reccomend just being straight bard until then

I was under the impression that the game goes off of the last caster class taken to set your spell DC stat. Which means your spell DC goes off of Wisdom not Charisma. So you should take Cleric first and then bard.

That's only for equipment that has spells attached, not spells gained from a class.

Using an arcane synergy item with this build isn't optimal as it uses the spellcasting ability modifier of the most recent spellcaster multiclass, i.e. the cleric so will only add the +2 wisdom modifier to damage. And trying to respec starting with level 1 Life Cleric first and multiclass into Bard (to use Charisma for arcane synergy) adds another problem...your character is no longer proficient with longswords. One solution is to start as a Cleric with a different sub-class that gives proficiency in martial weapons (i.e. tempest or war).

I just stared a new game with this build but its my first time playing as a bard and I don’t know if im doing something wrong because I have I very hard time dealing with the combat I keep dying, my first playthrough was with a sorcadin so bard is very new for me 😅 Im just in act one at the moment 😊

Well, Sorcadin is one of the most powerful builds, going from that to mostly Bard is going to feel weaker. Try not to just dive into combat, think about how your spells can give you an edge first. Utilise your control spells to give yourself and your party the advantage, then start swinging your swords.

While Eilistraee herself dropped the bow for lore reasons in her backstory, it remained the primary ranged weapon of her clerics probably because of it's association with the goddess, as well as hunting, which is one of things in her portfolio. From the Forgotten Realms wiki article on the Church of Eilistraee, which cities Demihuman Deities (Nov 1998) as a source.. "In battle, the priestesses had to wield swords when possible, and bladed weapons were preferred to other instruments when swords were not available. Longbows and silver-tipped arrows were usually used as secondary weapons."
