Baldur's Gate 3 - The High Harper (Jaheira Build)

Hi all! Today we have the next companion build, Jaheira! There was a lot of back and forth about how exactly she should be built, but I'm quite happy with the result!

Build is great, I love the way it relates back to her origins as a fighter/druid. Your explanations for stuff make it even better, I’ve seen so many people who just choose things with no reasons

Despite me not yet playing BG1 and 2, I still did my research.

Just so you know, if you cast Flame Blade with a single weapon in Hand, the Flame Blade will appear in your main hand, and the physical Blade will move to your off hand. HOWEVER, if you have two weapons already equipped, the off hand will be moved to your inventory, and Flame Blade will appear in your off hand, and your main hand is left unaffected. I always preferred having Flame Blade in the off hand personally, so I kept around a scimitar in her off hand, that was literally just a place holder, and was never actually used.

I do like you stuck to her lore. Having played BG1 in college and BG2 in the military. Jahera is a major character in the story. And her not being a fighter/druid is a straight crime. Thank you for doing the old Harper credit.

It doesn't break the rule to take fighter because she was a druid/fighter multiclass in BG 1&2

My favorite Companion character, the sassy badass grandma of the team. I actually decided to do the “Commander Strike” build we originally thought up in the stream for Jaheira, considering she is the Harper’s Commander. So less Eldritch Knight and onto Battle Master.

I've been building my Jaheira as a Land Druid/Ancients Paladin mix. Lore wise, I think it is a fairly natural evolution for her character and playstyle would be similar to what you have here.

Finally a Jaheira build that is not a spores druid multiclass. Jaheira is definetly from the Circle of the Land 🤓 Im excited to go with this build when I finally recruit her, Lae'zel as my Fighter is nice, but Jaheira looks so cool dual wielding 💚

Savage attacker would be incredible in that last feat since you attack so many times with her

@HoboZone to answer your question yes. Belm allows you to use the perfectly balanced strike and whirlwind attack features with whatever weapon is in your main hand while wielded in the off-hand.

Months Late on this but Belm's Perfectly Balance Strike is active regardless if its on Main Hand/Off Hand. It also benefits greatly from being off hand since It uses the Stats and On-Hits of the main hand, so your basically dual wielding with a copy of your main hand weapon and won't need Two Weapon fighting. Its suppose to be intended since its how Belm was like in the pervious game. Love this build/series mate. I love that you try to stick true to the character and make it so everyone has their own unique items instead of everyone fighting for the same 5 items or so

I love fighter/druid Jaheira :D I’ve built her like this before and its kinda cool to see that we have mostly done our builds the same way :> fighter 2 > land/coast druid then arctic xD I do typically go 7druid/5fighter with battlemaster cause that feels natural for Jaheira in vanilla. I do have the lvl 20 mod tho so i can give her more level later hehe

Love that your build is done with her past iterations in mind. The only thing I would definitely change in my own game is that I would unashamedly mod her stats to be closer to her stat spread from BG2 - to do her justice, and because I simply don't like the standard spread introduced in DnD 5E.

Great Build, I propose a Githyanki Warcaster build, I have a Red Dragon Sorcerer build because of his relationship with them and some level of fighter, Thematically it fit me very well and I really enjoyed role-playing and playing it.

I tried making monk Druid for that wisdom bonus with AC but just ended up making her Druid of the Land and keeping Wild Shape because she was shape shifting in the old game. So just use her as an owl bear with tavern brawler and going to give her boots that use unarmed having boost from wisdom see if that further increases her power. At the moment her Owl Bear is completely dominated and just keep her as perm 😂

I think it’s a great build but when I cast flame blade, there is no option to toggle off the bonus action attack, I might cut around that part

I largely used this concept as a starting point for my Jaheira in the current run (but going Fighter/5 OoA Paladin/6 CoL Druid) but found a weird effect, when I cast flame blade it uses Strength for to the attack roll bonus rather than Wisdom, so I have a terrible chance to hit. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this?

I've heard inconsistent reports about Flame Blade. It's supposed to work with Wisdom but it's can bug out. Not sure what causes it.

i got a build recommendation. have you tried anything like an eldritch knight archer ? maybe the best way to replicate the arcane archer from 5e

I need some help I am trying to make an arcane bomber build but I’m stuck the problem I’m having is to get the spells I need I have to do 5 levels in transmutation wizard but I’m not sure how to make a throwing build that uses a crossbow with the remaining 7 levels so I can’t even decide were to put the ability points or what feats to get other than tavern brawler p.s I want to use crossbow so I can use the special arrows

It depends on if you actually want to use spells or not. If you don't care about spells, then go Transmutation 2/Berserker 6/Thief 4. You still get the two levels of Wizard, which will get you the better alchemy and utility spells like Longstrider and Shield. You get Bonus Action throws and extra attack from Barbarian, which can be used for throwing or the crossbow. And finally, Rogue will give you a second bonus action for even more throwing and dashing for positioning. Start with a 17 in STR and go with Tavern Brawler to make it 18, then use the Potion of Everlasting Vigour to get 20. You then have another ASI/Feat for whatever you like. This would be how I do it. If you do want to cast spells (and I'm assuming keep the 5 Wizard levels), then go with Eldritch Knight Fighter to at least level 6. You'd get more spell slots to fuel your Wizard spells, the ability to throw a weapon and have it come back to you in case you run out of grenades and special ammo, and you would get extra attack. Not to mention two more feats with the bonus one a Fighter 6. I'd probably just bump Wizard up to level 6 as well. That's just off the top of my head, but should be pretty solid.

Start at 17, +1 from Khalid's Gift necklace, then use a Feat to take an ASI to add +2 = 20
