Ha! Good call! I went back and watched, and the way it's edited, I think he definitely put it in there on purpose. :)

I'm surprised! Back in 2012, I rode the train and sang this whole song, out loud, in our coach car, at the beginning of the journey. I sang it from my seat (I was too shy to go up in front of the whole car and sing it. I think everybody would be too shy do it also). I didn't have a lyric sheet with me nor a phone to look up the lyrics of the song. I did it completely from memory. Fast forward 5 years and I'm having trouble getting past the second verse of the song. HOW DID MY 8 YEAR OLD MIND MANAGE TO GET THIS WHOLE SONG MEMORIZED AND HAVE THE GUTS TO SING IT OUT LOUD WHILE 30 OTHER STRANGERS LISTEN TO ME!?!?!?

Ah bother, it would've made a hell of a ride to such a thing happening: Sitting in the coach, hearing someone hum or silently sing the song to themself, then just sing along and rise your voice in order for him/her to notice that it is okay to sing along. Heck, would probably motivate others on board to join in as well, and before you know it, the whole carriage would sing through the ride!

Heard the song on the C.W. McCall Album along/w "Convoy". In 1998, my wife and I went to Durango for the express purpose of riding 'The Silverton'. We rode in the parlor car...it was worth the extra expense. This video is superb. In August of 2001, we returned to Durango and though we didn't ride the Silverton that time, we got some pics for posterity. Then we drove on to Ouray to have a look at Kuboske's U-Drive-'Em, locale for "Black Bear Road". Epic adventures in Colorado!

Absolutely Perfect. I first heard this song in the 1970's when my parents got a CW Mcall 8track.. I allways loved the song and often thought how a video should look.. You did it! One of my new favorites

What great memories this brought back for me. I was on the phone talking to a client and found out while she grew up skiing in Durango she had never heard C.W. McCall's song Silverton Train! What?? I sent her the link! When I was a kid, somewhere between 10 & 12, my sister and cousins rode this along with our parents. We sang the Silverton Train song almost the whole time we were on the train! Great memories. Thanks for making such a great video. You obviously have a passion for trains!

Man this brings back memories. In the 90s I worked at a bar across from the Durango station. We used to get slammed when that train would get back from Silverton!

Love it! I drove from Durango to Silverton years ago. Couldn't get my wife to ride the train. Must of been that line in the song "You're gonna get a shiver when you check out the river..." We stopped at an overpass and waited for the train to pass while I played the song on a boombox. My wife thought I was nuts, but I loved it. I want to go back there and your video takes me back.

This video reminded me of a cable TV channel (Travel Channel I believe) show about the Durango & Silverton Railroad and the Silverton Train. It was narrated by C.W. McCall and features the "Silverton Train" song at the end. The near half-hour video depicted a ride on the train. Someone videotaped it and gave me a copy. Showed it a few times and I love it. It is on my bucket list to visit Durango and ride the train. We'll see. Stay safe and healthy.

@skybluedragonator I finally found what I was looking for in my "Cinders & Smoke" book. Yeah, 480 was dead when D&S bought the Silverton Branch. It was stored in Alamosa and trucked to Durango over Wolf Creek Pass. So, that would have been the time frame.

@royreynolds10811 жыл бұрын
If you could find a 35 to 50 ton loco in decent shape, you MIGHT be able to swap for the 464. The 464 would have to be converted back to superheat to be able to handle the trains on D&SNG. The 75 ton Porter 6-axle diesel built for US Gypsum operation at Plaster City, CA would be a good backup or work loco for D&SNG or C&TS. But it has a broken piston rod and a cooling water leak.
@really2ugly14 жыл бұрын
Great video! It looks like 480 has been rescued from her death bed. The last I heard was that she was in horrible shape. The scenery along the D&SNGRR is definitely more spectacular, but I think I prefer riding the Cumbres & Toltec as it is more rustic; so I think it gives a better taste of what riding the railroad "back then" was like. Also, the scenery varies more. Again, great video!

well, where do ya think? up at silverton, of course! It is the SILVERTON train!
