There’s a connection when you become a dragon rider with your dragon and I think Aeras longing for home (the red keep) was confused with the black dreads longing for home (Valeria) and the stronger of the two wills won out. I think the black dread thought he was doing what his new rider wanted at least. And he brought her home the second he knew she was in danger it seems.

Hey that's a great way to interpret it! Aerea was a willful child so I think she would have the strength of will to ride Balerion. It might just be her lack of experience with the dragon bond that led to the confusion. The only doubt I have is if Balerion really did long for Valyria. He was the last living being to see it so I guess it's very much possible.

@@HariKrishnan-kx1is true but even if he didn’t “long for Valerie” he might have still considered it “home” and the confusion still could’ve taken place. Idk though that’s just my little head cannon. It doesn’t seem as if Balerion tried to hurt the girl and then he did try to bring her to where she could get help and not just leave her to die wherever they were. Which makes me think there’s more going on then just a scared girl that couldn’t control a big beast.

Concerning Dorne, I thought we were told that even under Doran the population didn t really recover from the Dragon s Wrath. In any case, the dornish people really payed an awful price for that nice Martell Words. It still stuns me that this suicidal resistance did not led to any popular or vassal uprisings we know of.

I think Balerion was attacked by a group of wyverns in Valeria. They are known to be more vicious than dragons and they might have ganged up on him.

Plausible. Think of the scene in Jurassic Park with the T-Rex getting attacked by the pack of velociraptors. Probably something like that.

@@GreyWasteTim Exactly. He had no burns either so it is less likely to be another dragon. I think what happened to Balerion and Aerea somewhat mirrors what happened to Drogon and Dany in the Dothraki Sea. Balerion was attacked and wounded, so he found somewhere safe to rest and wait for his wounds to heal. Aerea could have survived with whatever food Balerion caught, but if she wandered off like Dany and drank water infected with Firewyrm eggs, her mortal agony might have forced Balerion to forget his wounds and take her back to Westeros. Alternatively, both Balerion and Aerea could have been infected with Firewyrms, but Balerion was so tough that he survived the ordeal. The huge bleeding wound could have been where the Firewyrms burst through his skin.

They did say that the wounds look like claw marks raked down his chest. Not internal combustion type wounds. Who knows besides George though. I personally agree she definitely was infected with firewyrms and that balerion likely did end up extending his stay because he got injured. He probably wouldn’t have stayed in Valeria as long if he wasn’t injured.

How do we know that aeraea couldn't control belerion if she was gone for a year in valaryia belerion was clearly protecting her and hunting for her also he brought her back so she had control over him in my opinion she just didn't want to o back home until she got attack
