Date coding for Ballast Point bottles are Julian dated located on the bottom of the bottle.

Brent Rusche I just figured out how to read a date code a few weeks ago. Never had a clue before.
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын

Really digging the brevity of the reviews, Chris! Not too long, not too short. Good stuff, my man!

If you ever get the opportunity to try this on tap, DO IT! It's quite good!

Nice!

Has there been any unfiltered variation that you thought was better than the original version? Only one comes to mind for me. DBA.
@33greenleaf7 жыл бұрын
You're correct, "Unfiltered" and "Limited Edition" is strictly a marketing gimmick for this beer. The date code should be printed on the bottom of the bottle FYI.
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree!

Did side by side, less bitter bite on the unfiltered, and date on the bottom of the bottle, Cheers Chris!!!

I looked high and low and couldnt find a stupid bottle date on that thing

Great review, I'll have to try the filtered and unfiltered side by side and see what differences I can tell
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
Its worth doing. Cheersd!
@petemcmahon27927 жыл бұрын
Yes, if unfiltered they need to use Vermont ale yeast with some outmeal to boost body and give us some new ester compounds like treehouse and trillium, otherwise just gimmick

It just tastes like very fresh Sculpin IMO.

Do you prefer the base sculpin or one of the pepper versions?
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
I actually like the pepper version a lot!
@dominicparenti62607 жыл бұрын
are you talking about the habanero version because the bottle I bought was like drinking a watered down insanity sauce. Not enjoyable and that was the first time I had sculpin.
@dennypinkham55977 жыл бұрын
It's Sculpin......that said it all.
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
Yep I thought so too

I liked it. It's not $13 a 6 good, but it was pretty decent. Stone Unfiltered Enjoy By is wayyyyyyy better. Unfortunately that shit flew off of the shelf at my store and I only got one 6 pack.
@blinkers887 жыл бұрын
That's funny because Enjoy By has reached shelf turd status around here. You can find copious amounts of it at grocery stores LOL
@cmille247 жыл бұрын
It's easy to find regular Enjoy By here, but the unfiltered flies off the shelf.
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
Exactly its way to expensive for what it is
@cdog25847 жыл бұрын
Did you try Fortem by Firestone Walker? Also very good
@jm24617 жыл бұрын
is it sculpin, though?
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I dunno if I said it enough
@howamidriving277 жыл бұрын
I thought this was pretty clear for an unfiltered beer. Not that I was expecting a NE haze bomb or anything, but I probably wouldn't have even realized it was unfiltered if it didn't say it on the bottle
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think the yeast they use is so aggressive at this point that they really dont even need to filter it
@cdog25847 жыл бұрын
I love sculpin, but this didn't taste like sculpin to me. It tasted watered down and I didn't get a citrus taste. I was very disappointed.
@racefrazier79987 жыл бұрын
Haha so true. I've never cared for filter/unfiltered beers.

@righyan7 жыл бұрын
Sculpin is good, but it's just too overpriced IMO. Something like $15 for a 6 pack.
@vikingrbeerdserkr84067 жыл бұрын
How often do you find a good beer for less?...
@righyan7 жыл бұрын
I usually pay $10 for a 6 pack, sometimes I will find a 12 pack for around $16.
@adamsbeerblog12127 жыл бұрын
It appalls me that even after getting bought out for a billion dollars, they still up charge the shit out of their beers. It's sad seeing sculpin warming the shelves now that's in every grocery store and gas station
@BeerGeekNation7 жыл бұрын
I agrre man its almost 80$ a case around me!!
@wolco0037 жыл бұрын
For the price? It is terrible. It's like a dollar less than Enjoy by and I sure as hell cant find a date on the cans...good thing cuz it just sits there. Victory at Sea is a different story.
@beardown24897 жыл бұрын
Ballast needs to take break from production, let the market clear out, and relaunch their beers at a lower price point. Sculpin is overpriced. If they got fresh beer into the market at 9.99 or 10.99, it would solve all their problems. They surely must be getting a rude awakening competing against all of these local breweries that produce similar beer at equal or cheaper cost. There is price war going on. It started this spring. In Chicago, I can get fresh Founders Centennial 15 packs for $16. So why would I ever drink Ballast Point? And to be honest, it's not like Foundeds is conquering the market, even with their pricing, i STILL see local Chicago breweries outselling Founders amazing value
@tnt1597 жыл бұрын
Way over priced
@mattr35627 жыл бұрын
Not impressed with this at all. Unfiltered IPAs are a bit of a trend now but I've found out the hard way that not every brewery pulls it off well. IMO regular Sculpin is better. Stone & Six Point pull of Unfiltered IPAs very well
