Nice job looking good. Just wanted to tell everyone that mixing 50% glue, 5% dish soap and 45% water mix works great to put down all ballast and grass products. I am enjoying your great progress.

That's a lot of dish soap. What's the reasoning behind that as opposed to 50-50 and then multiple drops of soap.

If you spray the ballast with isopropyl alcohol first before applying the white glue mix, it "wets" the ballst, and it keeps it from floating around.

I've used isopropyl on my N scale layouts. I may need to do so again. The movement of the grains tend to happen when diluted white glue is applied.

The Snowbasin ad played in the middle of this video. One reason why this ad is relevant is because if you come from Salt Lake City or Ogden, you would drive parallel with the UP Evanston sub on I-84 until your exit to Snowbasin.

I have heard some people use play sand for their ballast. I am thinking about doing that on my layout at home.

Had someone recommend swimming pool filter sand. but the grains were too small for HO scale in my view.

Use diluted "matte" medium to ballast turnouts. The method is proven and fail safe. Been doing it this way for decades. If they stick just pour some Isopropyl Alcohol) (IPA) over the points, wiggle them, and they will free up nice as the ballast re-dries. Cheers.

Matte medium is about three times more expensive than plain white glue. Pretty much the same stuff. What you describe is exactly how things are with white glue.

If the Woodland Scenics ballast is problematic (floating, hard to wet) why not just stick with Arizona? I'm about to start ballasting a 12x24 layout and need to make that decision myself. Thanks!

The Arizona ballast is three times as expensive as Woodland Scenics. With 600' of double track mainline, Arizona is cost prohibitive. I would use it if I had a smaller layout. The WS looks good, just takes a little more effort.

That's weird you have scuff marks on your fascia. Have you had any problems like that on the rest of the layout? I myself would try a clear coat on a test piece first just to see if it works.

The flat black paint is very susceptible to scuff marks. I also us a Matte clear coat that alleviates the problem
