I wish you wouldn't put yourself down so much, Eva. The last ones were pretty good. Much better than you think. Perseverance is the most important thing. Keep on going.

I agree! I would like to see you practicing the steps and then CONTINUING to practice even when you do better - it always seems like when you do a step better, you just stop; you don't seem to persevere to do better and better still. It's frustrating to see how you seem to laugh at yourself when you mess up (not that a sense of humor is a bad thing, when you're studying - dance or any other art, but...), it kind of seems like you get embarrassed when you do well, for some reason. I can see that you have it in you to do well when I watch you - I think you just need to persevere. I hope you'll continue to practice, but do so with a greater determination, and I think it will help you if you can stop diminishing yourself while you're practicing. If you could just try being self-affirming, I think you'll find that will help you a great deal. I'm 68, and I used to be a modern dancer (though I can no longer dance, now, because I have degenerative disc disease, and my spine is just wrecked - I currently have 3 herniated discs, and I just had surgery to remove an extrusion from the worst of those about a month ago - it has not helped me so far - I've been in as great an amount of pain since as I was before, for the most part). I didn't start studying dance until I was in my late 20s, but even then I didn't do well in that until I began to take myself a bit more seriously (there is definitely a happy medium between taking yourself too seriously and not valuing your own efforts and accomplishments, so you don't want to diminish yourself, either, like I see you doing most of the time). Maybe you don't see how it could make any difference, but I urge you just to try it - try not laughing at yourself or putting yourself down for a month, and at the same time persevere to the greatest extent you're able in the time you have available during that time period, and see if that doesn't make a big difference in your skill level . It worked for me, and my skill improved enormously when I began to take myself seriously enough to value the progress I made, and work toward greater progress, every day. That ultimately paid off for me when I auditioned and became part of a semi-professional multimedia performing arts group (I'm also a singer) when I was 45, which was despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis the year before. I performed with the company for 2 years, until illness and being a caregiver for my father, who was also ill, made me no longer able to keep up with a demanding rehearsal schedule. Though I had to leave the company after 2 years, I treasure the memories that I have of being part of these wonderful performances, and the sense of accomplishment I gained by succeeding, actually beyond my expectations (because even being able to perform locally), and being able to become a performer, dancing and singing onstage for a local audience.
