Yep. We called them toe shoes in the 60s and 70s. I still do sometimes. People look at me funny when I do. 😆

And in the 60s and 70s it sounded really snobbish to hear people say point shoe. Maybe because it was pronounced in French, pointe shoe - pwahnt shoe.

Yes, when I was young we still called them toe shoes....way back in the day 😂😂😂

We called them toe shoes in the 90s-00s but by the latter half the transition to called it pointe dancing was in full swing.

I was going to say, I remember calling them toe shoes when I got my first pair. Even my teacher was like, you're ready to go en pointe, so let's get you some toe shoes 😂 I guess that would have been 89 or 90.

Yes, my sister was a ballerina in the 1970*s and they called pointe shoes, "Toe shoes." Because where are you balancing? Yeah, on your toes!

Yep, took ballet classes and got to intermediate level in the early 90s in Manila. We called them toe shoes. My first pair were Capezio.

I started point work when I was dancing in college, in the late 70's, and that was the first time I heard toe shoes referred to as point shoes. I am sure the term "point" was used before then, but that was my first exposure to the term.

We call “point shoes” in the Nederlans “ spitzen”. I don’t know why, but it’s so random 😂

I think it come from “spits” what means pointed or sharp. Like a mouse with a pointed nose. The word “Spits” is not used as much now. So it sounds a bit weird and random. Even for dutch people. ☺️

That matches with the German, too. They're called "Spitzenschuhe" here, which literally translates to "point shoes", or "shoes that come to a point". So maybe Dutch just decided to leave the shoe part off? Other fun uses of "spitzen" in German are the top of a mountain (Spitze) and a pencil sharpener (Spitzer, or "one who makes a sharp point").
