This pilot came in contact with a tow/glider tow rope, and the cable became entwined in his prop. I can't tell what type of attitude he was at after impact... obviously he felt it to be unrecoverable.

I don't have a ballistic chute. I have 15 ft. of garden hose attached to my plane. If I get into trouble, I deploy the hose. As everybody knows, as soon as you start to drag a garden hose it will instantly snag on something. Foolproof!

I don't know officially, but from what it seems, it was actually a very smart move, moreso reflex. If he had of hit the other aircraft, before he knows it things might be beyond saving; rather than wait and see if he made contact.

i wanna know what damaged the aircraft wake turbulence from a GA aircraft is not enough to severely damage another aircraft short of collisions so 1 of 3 things likely happen 1. he collided with a different aircraft flying in formation with the one that crossed his nose 2. he snatch the yoke in fear so hard that he ripped a part off the plane not likely or the turbulence stalled the aircraft and out of instant panic he pulled the chute which i think is likely the correct i dont think it was nessacary to pull the chute as soon as he did because the plane had not stalled into a unrecoverable dangerous maneuver example a fully developed spin i think it stalled then the left wing dipped and before it began a induced spin which is recoverable he pulled the chute he could of saved that plane easily had he was patient enough for a brief moment to see what the plane was doing he clearly had plenty of altitude to take a sec before pulling the chute its not like he was 500 ft off the ground with no wing IMO idk maybe im wrong i wasn't there

Simply scaling that up for an airline isn't an out of the realm of possibility. Maybe taking into account extra bracing and a second chute, a large airliner might lose up to maybe 10-12% of its useful load, but passengers may be happy to pay extra to make up for that 10-12% for their own safety in the event of an emergency....

Seemed like the tow-plane guy might have been under the influence of "release fever". The man i worked for at KIGQ lost his son to that phenomenon... Was towing a banner out over Chicago, flew back to KIGQ, then within moments of dropping the banner applied full power and tried some crazy AOA climb. He stalled and crashed into the field just across the street from the airfield. From what it was described to me (who's not a pilot): after so long towing something at really slow speeds - to avoid shredding the banner - tow pilots sometimes get a little crazy. That sudden "Ahhh i'm free from dragging this thing" sometimes causes them to get a little reckless. Not sure here - obviously - but that was one hell of an angle that tow plane was coming from. Very nose-high.

it wasnt the plane crossing his nose that caused the crash, he caught the tow wire, thats why he comes to such a sudden stop, then after the stop you hear the chute deploy. yea that plane shouldnt have been that close, but it isnt his fault, the pilot made the right quick descision, better to be alive and have to pay to fix you plane than to not be ably to fly again at all.

Skiing Canada I saw an interview with the pilot on the news when this happened he said he collided with the tow plane or tow rope I can't remember which now. It's hard to tell in the video because the other aircraft seems to just fly accross the view of the camera but it was my understanding and you can google search it was it was a glancing blow the other plane was able to land but this guys plane was damaged enough to deploy his BRS.

I saw an interview with the pilot on this one, the tow rope got caught in the prop, either breaking it off or damaging it beyond safe use (Don't remember which one it was) and then the rope snapped back and broke off a control surface. So the plane was going down like a rock no matter what the pilot did

While this was at low altitudue a couple of things need to be considered. 1. What the hell was a guy doing that close to the runway that high off the ground? You would think he would try to get out of the airspace. 2. What in the world is a guy doing that kind of move THAT close to the airport. When you are in airport space, the games don't fly.

the most fatal decision would be not to pull the chute. you even dont know how badly the plane is damaged, so you might re start engines or try to stabilize but that would cost you seconds which decide either you live or you die, so pulling the chute was the best he could do. better stay on ground sittingduck because your behaviour raises the accident or incident statistics

Pilot you owe a better explanation in your description. You leave many non-pilots to guess what happened. Try updating so everyone has a chance to understand. The pilot pulled up to avoid the passing aircraft but he hit the tow rope and abruptly stalled. Good call on the parachute deployment. Glad you are OK. Try to post better information though.

That 'other pilot' had right of way. When flying VFR in uncontrolled airspace, traffic from the right has right of way. Especially a tow-plane is very hard not to see. The pilot who filmed this should pay more attention to flying and to a sharp lookout in stead of operating his camera.
