You should vet your facts. The land was *NOT* sold to Moses Sherman. While Sherman was involved in the railroads that ran through this area, the land was inherited from Andres Briswalter and Ramona Sepulveda Machado by Louis Mesmer, who then passed it on to his son Joseph Mesmer. J. Mesmer executed a real estate indenture for part of his holdings with the Beach Land Company, who named their development Playa del Rey July 16, 1902. It is true that a portion of those holdings were purchased later by Hughes Tool Company from J. Mesmer others to whom he'd sold/leased parcels.
