@@Drawkcabi Oh Drawkcabi, how can you mention 'Galactica 1980' ?!? One good episode and one sort of good thanks to the guest star. On to a more pleasant topic: _'Gilligan's Island'_ gave us the eternal question of: "Ginger or MaryAnn?" _'Buck Rogers,'_ not only gives us "Ardala or Wilma?" but, bless the casting director, it gives us many, many good looking actresses as guest stars. 🙂 For the record, my choices are Ginger and Ardala, at least this week. Ask me again later and it might switch to MaryAnn & Ardala. ;-)

I figured if I didn't mention it and only mentioned Buck Rogers I'd get someone saying "um, actually they should watch Galactica 80, even if it's bad that comes next...yada, yada, yada, entire franchise, yada, yada..." 🤷‍♂️ I recognize Wilma as seriously hot, but it's Ardala for me. It doesn't always work for me, but when it comes to Ardala, the "bad girl" thing *really* works!

@@Drawkcabi Sound reasoning. As for guest stars on B.R., this won't be a spoiler as Alex & Josh are too young to know them & this wonder when they would be showing up, off the top of my head my two favorites would be Markie Post and Judy Landers.

This came out when I was 14. Perfect age. I live in Canada and this Pilot episode played in the theatres in Aug before the Sept tv premiere. I saw it twice. In that version Baltar had his head cut off by the Cylons. I was a super fan back then. I had build the model kits of the Battlestar Galactica, the Cylon Base-Star, the Cylon Raider & the Viper. I was madly in love with Athana/Maren Jensen had her pictures on my wall next to Erin Grey and that famous Farrah poster. So much great Sic-Fi back in the late 70s perfect for a kid, thanks to Star Wars.

When John Colicos was Kor on TOS, I wanted to see more of him. I believe Colicos had other obligations so Kor couldn't be a recurring adversary for Kirk. Then comes Galactica and Baltar! We get to see more of Colicos at his antagonist best.

Adama didn't recognize the words "wolf" or "bear", but he probably would have known the animals if Leiter had described them. Also, Kobol was the original human homeworld. It was the planet in the center of the Star Void in the "Lost Planet of the Gods" 2-parter.

I’m so excited to see y’all taking on the OG Galactica. I LOVED this series as a kid. Be sure not to skip “Galactica 1980,” the follow-up sequel series which DOES take us to Earth. “1980” is much reviled, but I’ve always had a soft spot for it-I loved it as a kid. And it does bring something of a conclusion to the story-arc, despite being cancelled prematurely.

The casting in the original BG was almost always spot on. It's possible that the show could have found a greater focus and consistency if a second season had been approved. The network decision to change the format from recurring mini-series to a regular full season resulted in most of the issues with scripts. And It was just too expensive.

Ya as usual the studio f----- it! Dirk Benedict said season 2 was a go and at the last minute they pulled the plug. He said it was such short notice. He had left a bunch of personal stuff in his dressing room because he thought they would be back. Got the call the show is done. Can I go get my stuff. No! Then a writing campaign forced them to make that god awful Galactica 80. It is amazing anything got made the studios are run by idiots!

Larson also wanted more time (after the 3-hour premiere), before doing any more broadcasts, for technical improvements (and more variety in the shots) as well as the writing.

The Cylons were expensive and they only had about 5 complete outfits and Larson tried to expand the universe with the angels, space Nazis and trolls with bolos. I loved this show. The Cylons will be back by season's end. The last episode of Galactica 1980 is worth watching.

Indeed - same...too tired to sum it all up but in essence the 1970's one had great theme tune a great cast that really did make their characters stand out and, for its time - it really did push the boundaries of effects used in a sci fi show to the degree they spent tons on just the effects alone and why some were reused in some scenes as the first original series continued. The remake, is just lacking in that special something which all combined, the original really had and why still liked by many even now.
@kellinwinslow1988

Have to disagree here. I grew up with the original but nostalgia doesn't help hide it's flaws. The characters,the settings,the ideas the story ,the effects,the music everything was leaps better in the remake. In fact aside from Space Battleship Yamato 2199 the new BSG is one of the best examples of a remake done right. The original had some interesting ideas but just couldn't deliver on them and frankly doesn't really hold up very well aside from some music and ship designs.

The original was the best. I had to pretend to myself that the remake was an entirely different show and force myself not to compare them in order to watch the reboot. But I will always love the original and tolerate the reboot.

The good old days when TV shows actually had opening credits with memorable theme music. I think it was Lost when they decided to go with just a title card and a couple of seconds of music so they could squeeze in a few more commercials. No more great themes in network TV like Wild Wild West, The Man from UNCLE, the Rockford Files, and St. Elsewhere. I was probably too old to appreciate this series. We thought it would be Star Wars on TV. The opening 3 hour episode was good. But it lost my interest as it went on. The writing was nowhere near as good as Star Trek. I had to wait for the reboot for them to do something interesting with the premise.

I agree these shows are in the same vein as far as science-fiction entertainment at the time. I have tried to re-watch Buck Rogers and it is fairly excruciating. Fun fact. George Lucas was going to sue Glen Larson over BSG saying it ripped off Star Wars. In order to prove Lucas wrong Larson actually said that one of the main inspirations was the anime Space Battleship Yamato. He made direct comparisons between the BSG episode Gun On Ice Planet Zero and the Yamato episodes where they have to destroy a giant gun on Pluto to get past it. Larson even got producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki to say that,yes they took stuff from his show Space Battleship Yamato. So the lawsuit was dismissed. If you guys are looking for some amazing Sci Fi you should definitely check out the remake, Space Battleship Yamato 2199 from 2009. A great example of how to do a remake right and one of the best Sci Fi shows of the last 20 years hands down.

While the original BSG is less than nothing compared to the remake it did have some interesting ideas. I remember seeing it when it came out and for TV then it was good. BSG 1980 though should be skipped at all costs. Absolutely terrible beyond belief. My favorite episodes,aside from the return of the Pegasus which they also did in the remake,are the War Of The Gods episodes. Fantastic music and Patrick Mcnee makes a great version of evil. Again the show has it's flaws and doesn't really hold up very well but it did allow Ron D Moore to expand and improve on what was started here.

Always one of my faves as a kid. Second season really sucks unfortunately. George Lucas killed the future of the show when he sued them for using proprietary technology and equipment without permission. Some of the gear was legally owned by Lucasfilm and stolen for BSG. Such a shame it could never fulfil its potential. Hate the remake, original Cylons are just too cool. Starbuck and Apollo forever!
