We Americans (just my opinion) have taken foreign languages for granted. They should be emphasized much more importantly than they are.

I share your opinion from personal experience. We here in Curacao emphasize on teaching at school four languages, next to our native language Papiamentu, of which English, Spanish and Dutch are foreign. Additionally we are able to learn either French or German. Some of us do even speak Mandarin of Guangzhou. So you did signal a positive approach, hopefully will be appreciated by your fellow Americans and government

As a Dutch Australian who could only speak English at the start of my life, I can only concur. Other languages are important as well to learn. Even if you do not use them on a daily base, it does make your world much bigger.

English has been available to study as a language in the Baltics from the same period, it's just that russian was too. The language of the oppressor will now be gone.

@@heetheet75 I understand, in Poland it wasn’t even available, in grade school we had 3 years of mandatory English, I think only after that you could change to German, or French. However, to be honest my family emigrated from Poland when I was in 8th grade, the last grade of grade school.

The Baltic countries along with EU funding are building the “Rail Baltica” railway line going North-South to connect the Baltic countries with the rest of the EU and NATO countries. Part of the railway line is expected to open in 2028 and will be fully completed in 2030.

President Zelensky is spot-on correct.Coming from an Estonian refugee father family, I foresaw this dangerous time in the 1990's. This is exactly why I joined the Estonian Defense Forces Army Military Police and Defense League to help prepare the Estonian nation from a future Russian attack and attempted takeover. To be ready and achieve NATO Defensive Alliance membership, which happened 20+ years ago.
