Not trying to equate but Portlandia actually fucked up Portland Oregon. Now it's as expensive as NYC

I grew up in DC in government housing during the really, really bad crack period. I remember one year the Washington Post just got fed up and decided to list all the names of everyone killed due to drugs and violence. It was small font and took up like a whole spread. I remember the Nation of Islam took over some projects to try to make them safer. The ONLY reason I can think of that anyone from DC would say Baltimore is scary is because they are young and grew up during Gentrification.
