Here's a fun fact I forgot to mention. All major American sports teams called the Browns last for about 50 years, then move to Baltimore and rename themselves after a bird.

I had no idea that was a fact! How much longer do the current Browns have left in Cleveland then?

Thanks, Brutus. I’m a lifelong Orioles fan. Your point that the Orioles franchise goes all the way back to the formation of the American League via the Milwaukee/St. Louis connection often goes without comment, even locally in Baltimore - where the National League Orioles of the 1890’s are often cited as the historical predecessors of our beloved O’s.

I think that's really interesting as well, it seems as though the team abandoned its roots from Milwaukee/St Louis in favor of the more romantic story of connecting back to the original Orioles...even though they don't really connect directly. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Just found these team history videos today and I'm loving it!. They're well thought out and well written. I enjoy the flow and the thoroughness of everything from their moves to ownership to stadiums and logos really great! Growing up I was raised as a Red Sox fan and honestly didn't know much about other teams. Other than the obvious rivalries and such. But as I've gotten older and I'm coming back to baseball more. I've become more of a fan of baseball as a whole and not so much a single team fan. So these videos are really exciting for me to learn more about baseball history as a whole each individual team. Just just a thought/suggestion, maybe add some info on mascots and some of the more interesting Minor League affiliate teams. I know that might make some of these videos even longer but personally I don't mind. I just think there's a lot of really unique minor league teams out there that have some fun history as well. With all your quality videos out there and the rise of baseball popularity on the internet I'm honestly so surprised that you don't have more subscribers. But I hope all the best for you in your KZbin endeavors and I look forward to the next one.

Mike Cuellar comes to mind in the pitcher category….Dave McNally was a good memory….i lived across the street from Memorial Park, on Greenmount Avenue…we watched games from our roof. The houses were like the Brooklyn brownstones….up on the 4 th floor roof, was a good view of the games way back in the day.yeah, I’m an oldhead….

I really enjoyed the way you made this video, when you finished the history and started talking about other things like baseball parks, uniforms, funny stories I realized there is so much one can share about a team. Thank you for all the research and the way you tell the story of a team. It makes me a non-fan still curious and watch the whole video… and by a non-fan I mean that I’m a girlfriend of a real fan that is watching so I understand why my partner loves the game. What I have found is that these stories are generally interesting no matter how much you love baseball. Keep it up!

An interesting topic might be the International League Baltimore Orioles ...1912- 1953. As a Baltimore native I heard a lot about that team & researched it a bit... It was said to be as good as most MLB/AL/NL teams during its existence with only the Yankees probably outclassing it. The attendance for the team was also claimed to be major league caliber, with games in Baltimore for the Intl League World Series' having a higher attendance than World Series games some years. It's been a good while since I did that research, and that's all that I remember of it... but the team might be a very interesting research project to take a deep dive on...

You are quite right, the Baltimore Orioles have a very long and rich baseball history even before the current team arrived. I've still got 20+ MLB teams to do, but I'll add it to the list of ideas for sure!

I have to say, the way you're handling the 1800s Orioles history... very well played. Of course, with the team you're tacking them onto, that video probably ends up being an hour long, but that might have been the case anyway. One correction, and I'm sure you know this. Pearl Harbor (and presumably the Browns to LA vote) took place in 1941, not 1942. Here's a fun fact about the Eddie Gaedel story (if you have a warped, twisted sense of fun). Bill Veeck told Gaedel that he had two snipers in the stands and that they were ordered to fire if Eddie actually swung at a pitch. 1971 was a noteworthy year. The O's had four 20 game winners on their staff: Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, and Joe Dobson, something that had only been done once before, and probably never will be done again. That's about all I have to add. Since the question involves the Orioles, I'll ask you: What's your take on the first round playoff bye?
@brutusonbaseball

Love how you're really keeping me on my toes! I should really be sending you my content to proof-watch before posting. **Correction: the Browns wanted to move for the 1942 season...but the vote was Dec 8 1941!** I've been noticing that these videos are getting longer and longer, I might have to corral that in. Some teams just take a really really long time to tell. I'm undecided on the playoff format still. Five days isn't a lot, but at the same time it is when you've been playing almost every day for six months. I see the good and bad side of the argument of the 1-game wild card play-in, but if I was in charge I'd probably tell the 5 and 6 seeds to play one game, then the winner plays the 4 seed to see who goes on to play the 1 seed. 2 seed and 3 seed play each other automatically (I would also seed by record, not division winners by the way). This method would still require two games, but it guarantees the three best teams play the next round instead of seeing the 5 and 6 seeds like we're seeing. All that being said, the Astros have kinda shown that the 5-day layoff doesn't have to hurt a team. I do think the Orioles are quite young and inexperienced in the playoffs, I expect to see them back again next year.

might want to do a quick update video as just prior to the start of this season, the angelos family sold the team to a new ownership group lead by billionaire and Baltimore native David Rubenstein for $1.725 billion. Other members of the new ownership group include the iron man himself, cal ripken jr, and Mike Arougheti, as well as a few others. Also all the 9 awards from the 2023 season, including, but not limited to, Mike Elias - MLB executive of the year, Gunnar Henderson - AL rookie of he year, Brandon Hyde - AL Manager of the Year.

For sure, I mentioned there were a total of 38 players in the Hall that had played for the Orioles or Browns, but I didn't take the time to mention them specifically unless they wore the team cap. Only five of those four the Orioles, but lots more players that spent at least a season with the team.

NED GARVER and BOBO NEWSOM from the STL BROWNS deserve a top ten STLB/BALTY pitching spot. GARVER in the 1951 SEASON went 20-12 on a team that did not win 60 games in a 154 game campaign. They lost 100.. Newsom was a darnmned good hurler who would’ve been a lot closer to the HALL with even an average team, or one that was above, but was stuck with many double digit win and loss seasons, seemingly each season just a few games below .500, with decent E.R.A.s., and for more than a few seasons like that. As for only BALTY: PALMER, MESSINA, MCNALLY, CUELLAR, and FLANAGAN.. Fun facts: DON LARSEN pitched for the 1953 sayanara BROWNIES.. Only ROBIN ROBERTS, STEVE CARLTON, and NED GARVER, since 1951 have won 20 or more games without losing at least 20 on teams that were at least 30 games under .500 on the season. Carlton was 27-10, sub-two ERA, and 300+ K’s for a strike-shortened season PHILS TEAM IN 1972.. one that won.. 59 games in their 156 played… the greatest pitching season in modern(post 1920) HISTORY.. That’s right= 27-10 on a 59-97 team..

@@brutusonbaseball , DON LARSEN pitched for the ORIOLES in their maiden voyage season, too. He got to his destiny NO-HITTER WORLD SERIES game with the NY YANKS in 1956 when in the winter of ‘55 following a 3-21 ORIOLES performance by DON, LARSEN, and others including pitcher BOB TURLEY came to the Bronx Bombers in a massive trade. Amazingly, the 17 player swapping bonanza, which you, MR. POSTER unless I misheard you, described as happening a year earlier, came after the YANKS 103-51 season in ‘54’s campaign.. one in which the NY’ers finished EIGHT GAMES BEHIND.. BEHIND THE 111-43 INDIANS, the latter team that was robbed of the greatest modern team maybe ever status when a 97 win NY GIANTS club swept.. SWEPT CLEVE IN FOUR GAMES. One of the biggest regrets in my MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL play-by-play announcing career was my interview with CLEVE’s BOB FELLER where I stupidly did not ask him about how disappointed he had to have been after losing to the JINTS, thanks to WILLIE MAYS catch, journeyman pinch hitting maestro DUSTY RHODES who had a dream series, and.. how RAPID ROBERT felt about comments from one NL’er who said the A.L. was a minor league compared to the NL.. That faux pas and my accidental recording just less than 24 hours later..over the FELLER interview, with a pregame interview of our manager.. AAAAARGH!!!..are two of the things that I regret the most from my career.. Sigh.. As for LARSEN, he pitched for the ORIOLES again after he went to the NYY, offering it up for BALTY in ‘65. He retired three seasons later with the CHICUBS ORG., pitching in DOUBLE-A at the time before calling it a career during ‘68’s mid-summer. Meanwhile.. Yep, BULLET BOB TURLEY the 1958 MLB SINGLE CY YOUNG WINNER was actually on the ‘54 ORIOLES..and the ‘53 BROWNIES..

Yeah they gave up on him after a few years of injury history as part of that mass exodus of players from the Browns and before they became the Orioles. Would have been a good addition to those young Orioles teams, but I think they were just looking for a fresh start from the Browns no matter what

Interesting perspective, not the first time someone has noticed that mistake, but the first time someone has questioned the whole video from one "botch" in the script.
