In this Disney classic a young deer named Bambi joins his new friends, a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower, in exploring his forest home. As a boy, he learns from his doting mother and his father, The Great Prince of the Forest, that there are dangers in the open meadows where hunters can spot the animals, and he meets a beautiful young doe named Faline. As Bambi grows up, he learns that there is tragedy as well as beauty and joy in his forest world and on the path to adulthood.

Basically the skunk, an animal that's probably often avoided because of their stink spray, has most likely never been called pretty, or a flower in his life. So to have Bambi call him that from the first time they meet, and have him MEAN it, yeah, guys got a friend for life there.

Along with Mufasa's death in The Lion King (which was inspired by Bambi's mom's death but the went even further by show him actually dying and Simba finding is corpse, which I don't think even Walt would have done at time).

The death of Bambi’s mom was the reason that made Walt Disney change his mind about killing off trusty in lady and the tramp. Audiences were so devastated watching Bambi that Walt didn’t wanted them to go thru the same thing again 😅 Also about the deer that fought Bambi over faline has a bigger role in the midquel (that takes place after the death of Bambi’s mom). It’s a pretty good movie and it also expands the relationship between Bambi and his dad 🥺

It also inspired Mufasa's death in The Lion King (the movie in general was inspired by Bambi to the point they refered to it as "Bambi in Africa" and you can see the similiarities) with the exception of that unlike with Bambi's mom, you saw Mufasa falling (but not hit the ground), Simba seeing him die and then found his corpse, which makes it even sadder.

Peggy Lee was the one who convinced Walt not to kill Trusty. this movie was the first Disney movie to have a main character die and not be revived by magic or a kiss. of course, there is the theory of dead mothers, stemming from Walt's own mother's death. Walt bought a new house for his parents, but she died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty furnace. his dad survived, but went into a deep depression. Walt blamed himself for the rest of his life

I woulda loved to see your reaction to the scene where the father comes to fetch him after he's been shot. He wakes him up and demands he get up in a very firm voice, without providing any aid. It sounds mean, but he's actually puting himself in danger by going back for him, and he simply knows if Bamby can't walk, he's not gonna survive. When Bamby struggles to stand you can hear the urgency in the father's voice and then when Bambi managest to stand he does give him a shoulder to rely on for a moment, and slows down for him.

And the panic welling up while her friends urged her to calm down and stay on the ground. All to no avail. The quail/pheasant is too panic stricken to listen or think clearly and takes flight. Which cost her her life. I would always wanna squirm and look away at this scene. It isn't Bambi's mother's death. We see the body fall this time. Thank you for this! I can highly recommend Bambi 2 as well. It‘s my absolute favorite Disney and it was the first time I liked a second movie more than the first.

I was crying through almost the whole reaction. I watched Bambi since 5 or so, but only a couple of years ago I started to get very emotionak EVERY time I watch it or even hear the music from there. (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)

OMG, this is such a classic and a really good movie. If you really love this movie then you should watch Oliver and Company because it’s also an all-time classic and I hope you do watch it. I’m sorry if I’ve been suggesting it a lot, but I think you should and I think you would really like it.❤❤❤❤❤❤

See, let me say this. I used to watch this movie on a few occasions when I was little but I never understood what that one scene with Bambi’s mother meant. I did understand eventually and now every time I see it, it hits harder 😭

Whoa! A classic! World War II was still going on at the time, but it didn’t stop Walt Disney from continuing making films. Interesting to note: Walt’s top animators wanted to include a scene showing Bambi’s mother’s lifeless body shortly after the gunshot. But Walt decided against it saying, “it doesn’t feel quite right.”

You should definitely check out Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. It’s one of Disney’s most classic films. One of my favorite of the old Classics.

I think you should watch (looks like you haven't reacted to it yet!) "The Land Before Time" (1988). It also involves an animal mother and son, BUT they are dinosaurs (brontosaurus / apatosaurus) :)

Bambi was originally meant to be the second movie after Snow White but it proved too difficult for the animators to make realistic animals and movement so it was shelved after Pinocchio and Fantasia (Dumbo was made in between to make a cheaper production to save the studio after both said movies failed at the box office, partly thanks to World War II locked down the European market, and it did thanks to being a success). It wasn't succesful at the box office and reviews weren't glowling at the time but since then it have become a classic and one of Disney's most beloved films. Because of World War II and that Bambi, Fantasia and Pinocchio weren't hits at the time, Disney studio had to make package movies such as Saludos Amigos and Fun Fancyfree to keep head above water until they cooped enough money to make a gamble on Cinderella, which became a cashcow that enabled the studio to make more feature lenght films such as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp.
