Very good video. Especially the speed of explanation, selected examples and way to show which parameter does what. The best is that you not only explain the parameter but perform a print and show how it looks in real life. The white gloves and white box to show the examples was surprising but really made sense. Thank you for this very useful video.

I have a request for a Bambu studio tutorial that I think many people would benefit from. Speed. Other slicers handle speed in a simple way by Bambu studio breaks down speed into settings that can be overwhelming and confusing for many. An explanation of each speed setting and some tips for maybe petg or other filaments that may benefit from slowing down some settings more than the default profiles.
@ashleys3dprintshop

Hmm that would make for a very interesting video. There are a lot of variables, filament, model, wouter wall effect(matte vs glossy) temp. even brand.
@colinmsmall
@colinmsmall 7 ай бұрын
I agree.. I’m not sure what you would be comfortable tackling in a video like this, but for me, at the very least I would like to understand how to properly adjust the speeds in a meaningful way. Petg comes to mind because it is often recommended to slow down on fast printers like the Bambu etc. the default profile I think does slow down some things, but it is difficult to understand how to actually tweak the speeds in a meaningful way to perhaps get the best results.
@colinmsmall

@@ashleys3dprintshopThe latest version of Bambu Studio now includes two profiles for each layer height. Fine and High Quality. As far as I understand, High Quality just controls some speed settings to produce a higher quality surface.. I think.

Some SCARY AI happens when you use the Dowel or some other connectors where if you accidentally set them too DEEP into a model and the hole will protrude out the other side, do UNDO, then cut, then edit connectors, and your dots are MOVED for you to locations where they won't protrude. THIS. IS. BONKERS. This is some kind of hidden feature.

Thank you for the instructions, I really enjoy learning it. One thing I should ask, because I found no way how to do it, how you make a series of spaced dovetail, like when it is do a joint of two walls 90 degrees of a wooden drawer?

So I have been digging deeper into dovetail for months and have not successfully gotten it to the level of woodworking dovetails. While simple cuts are fine, multiple cuts have been less than ideal to complete failures. CAD programs may be better suited for the task.

@ashleys3dprintshop

Hello. You should be able to do several selective cuts without much issue. So you can selective cut in an a more manable part and selective cut the part again. I would so "no" if it asks to fix non manifold edges though, If you are using dowels, snap and dove tails the can get tricky however.

Selective cuts is exactly what I've been looking for. Do you have recommended support settings for high detail prints like the xenomorph in your video? I'm trying to print some TMNT figures but I can't figure out the right setting to use that won't make the print look ugly on the contact points.
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 3 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. I typically use the tree supports, slim or organic style. They come off easy and may need some minor post processing. If you have models that don't require a bunch filament swaps you can use petg/pla as opposites just at the contact points for clean break off supports.

Do you have a video about cutting a part into pieces then resizing with all pieces resizing appropriately? I'm printing some armor parts and need to resize after cutting and adding connectors. I'm leaning toward using square dowels because of connectors on multiple sides to hold the breastplate together. Also printing the square dowels on their side to add strength and not need support. Any thoughts to prevent wasting filament?

Great explanation of these features. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on these topics. Is there a method to precisely add snap connectors? I'd like to cut 2x different sized containers, and connect them. (e.g. Container A = A1+A2, Container B = B1+B2, then print and physically combine A1 +B2). To do this I'd have to add connectors at precise locations on both originally uncut parts. Any thoughts would help.
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
Hello, thank you for the positive feed back. There is a way to make exact connections for 2 disparate parts. I would actually use mesh boolean instead of just connectors as they need to be done with a "cut" and the are manually placed. Here are examples kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2rFeqt6nKlrh5I Or here kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3_Ed4OsbphljaM There is a starter video if you want to see other things you can do with mesh boolean here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGXPaGiKa8-fn6M It may take a bit of practice but you can make interchangable parts with these methods. Thank you for the excellent question.

Do you already have a video on manifold parts? Please someone share a link if so. If not, how can we tell when that warning matters and to hit fix and when we can safely skip it? Does it show somehow where it thinks the error is for us to review for ourselves? It's such a scary warning but when I've skipped repairing it's been fine.
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 5 ай бұрын
I don't have a full topic on non manifold parts. Typically I just ignore the message. You can always repair the model but I would recommend doing it before painting and cutting. If you run the repair after a cut or color it erases all of the modifications. There is one exception and that's if it looks bad/off/broken during a slice.. Which is exceedingly rare.

Nice tips. But I wonder: If I have a model, like a box and I have another model (like a RPI enclosure). Can I merge them to one object, sinking the RPI enclosure into the box and prevent the box wall to "grow" into the rpi enclosure? So I want the rpi enclosure to be sunken into the large box, so its flush or almost flush.
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 7 ай бұрын
Actually yes that can be done. It will require some experimentation with negative / modifiers and cuts . I'll do some experiments but should be doable.

Can you add 2 dovetail connectors one the same height but in two different places? My object needs two of them and I can’t find a way to do that
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 25 күн бұрын
I know this is a long time in responding but I have been occasionally messing with dovetails to see if I can "double dove tail", sunrise dovetail and a bunch of others. So the short answer is no. The dovetail is a plane cut, so while you could make multiple plane cuts there are huge limitations. The longer answer is there may be another option. But I have been dabbling in general cuts and using mesh boolean to do a similar precise cut. It is a bit hard to explain here but you can use any shape to exclude(difference) another shape. I would need a project to show it off but in theory it may be possible.

When slice using connectors my parts are hallow and do not create a surface to create the pegs. is there a setting that I am missing ?
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
The pegs/connectors need to be placed on surfaces that have a top and bottom. They will not auto generate a surface. There is one exception but it may not ultimately be what you want as it fills in holes and will probably make your model solid. You can kinda fix it by reducing/increasing walls, but without seeing your model I can only make an educated guess if it will work. Others tab, slicing mode, fill holes.

So the steps are select model 1. cut (select planar or dovetail) 2. if planar, add connectors 3. place connectors/make adjustments 4. confirm connectors 5. perform cut If you haven't made any changes to the "after cut" settings the hole side is facing down. you can flip it with f key or flip icon. @ 2:45 If you have any other questions I'll do my best to answer.
