Did you know about a powerful tool that his hidden(in plain sight) in bambu studio. Mesh Boolean combines assembly, negative tools and other hidden features.
Lets go over how to access this feature and where it applies in your project.
** Note using Mesh Boolean will wipe out any colors you have painted. Make your mesh first, then paint afterwards. **

Super helpful, thanks! Knowing to use mesh boolean with text instead of negative part would have saved me time and headaches coloring the text. In fact I never noticed the mesh boolean button before watching this video. 😂

Mesh can be a game changer when you want to make permanent changes to models where regular negatives and modifiers dont quite get the job done.

Mesh boolean is super helpful to clean up weird infill lines that don't make sense when working with an assembly. I just learned about this really cool feature. Also one of the best parts of mesh boolean is the ability to export it as a "correct" STL file since STLs don't recognize negative parts. Thanks for the video

I admit I was missing out on mesh boolean when it was introduced. And thank you for the reminder of the export as a completed stl. That's why our community is the best. Every bit of info can help us all. 😊.

In regards to logos on curved surfaces, I normally convert the logo to SVG and then bring it into BS and clean it up and save it as an STL. then bring the cleaned up STL logo in as a modifier onto whatever curved surface (or flat for that matter). I've noticed the bigger the diameter of whatever you are putting the logo on, the easier it is to scale the modifier correctly. Never thought about mesh boolean with the modifier until i saw this video. Definitely looking forward to seeing if you might find a better way!

We think alike. lol. I have been testing stl, modifiers and now mesh boolean for images/logos on curves surfaces. It is a rabid bear on filament changes though if printed vertically. Thank you for your experience as it confirms some thoughts on the topic.

Agreed! Some aren’t as bad as others though. Sometimes I wish I had a 0.2 nozzle for the ones with smaller text on them

Thats pretty cool that BS can do this kind of light 3d modeling work. Not sure how i would apply this, but im sure it will come up at one point. I do a lot of my modeling in ACAD, which is pretty limited. Gonna have to check out your other BS tutorials.

Thank you very much. While it isnt a full fledge CAD program it can be good for minor modifications and tweaks. Eventually I will try to make a full project just with slicer.

@ashleys3dprintshop looking forward to see what you come up with. As someone with drafting experience, I get paralyzed when I'm not typing the dims of my lines, shapes, offsets, copy. Lol. Really wish there was a way to convert my dwg solid to a step file. I'll figure it out one day. For now I gotta live with low poly curves.

I have noticed in your videos that you do not have the "tip of the day" showing up every time you slice a file. Running Version V 1.8.4.51 I cannot see how to turn the "tip of the day" off. It is getting a bit annoying, and I am certain you know how to turn it off. I surely would appreciate a little help, if it is easy to say in a line or two. Thank you.

If you are using the newest version of studio, "assemble" as been renamed to "merge" fortunately it's in the same spot as before.

can you assemble negative parts? to be able to clone with the negative part in same location
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop Ай бұрын
Hello. The short answer is no you cannot assemble negative parts...directly or at least by themselves. But you can "assemble" negative parts with regular parts ,now called "merge" with the latest bambu studio. From there you can clone the part and the negative part. The clone feature will clone the exact position of each "part, negative, modifier, support or blocker on the model.

Hi, really great informative videos that have been really useful. I have a question though, I made a negative part in tinkercad and imported it into Bambu studio but it won’t mesh to make the hole I want, is it because it’s not studio compatible?
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
Hmm. I would recommend exporting the "negative" part tinker as a normal part. After import and assembly make it a negative in studio. So far that has worked well for me.

Thanks for the great content. do have a request for you. Would you pease do a vid on how to remove text placed on a model? I have a couple of prints I do for friends and I personalize them with name, phone, etc. To reproduce the same print I have to reload another model and go through all the importing to the slicer. Can the model just be imported and added text be removed? It has to be easier than what I am doing. Thanks, John
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
Hello!😁 I have a question are you trying to remove/modify text from your own previous models or from existing models with their own text? Say from makerworld/printables etc? The former would be pretty straight forward. The latter would require some trial and error. Ultimately once a template is made, making adjustments should be easy.

From my own model where I added the text.

I tried to reproduce the text part of your tutorial (min 13:30) and when I right-click the cube and Mesh Boolean I get an error that says: " Unable to perform boolean operation on model meshes. Only positive parts will be exported" . Have you encounter this?
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
Apologies about the delay. Recreating the text negative to boolean worked well when I retried it. I did discover a weird glitch that stopped me from creating a negative/mesh with the cone shape over the text.. The error did come up and the subtraction got wiped out. Perhaps it's certain fonts or even words that trigger depending on the angle of the difference. I will keep testing though.

May be I missed something but I am not sure what's the purpose of primitive modelling in the slicer. Isn't it much easier to do this in your modelling CAD program of choice?
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
If someone is comfortable using an advanced cad platform, little of this is necessary. A good number of people watching my videos are new to 3D printing in general or at least haven't gotten their feet wet with other cad programs. For instance I showed people how to create a lightbox from a single SVG file, with no training on a CAD program needed. It's just another way to do it. More information and techniques are rarely a bad thing.

I use both CAD and Nomad and this definitely comes in handy. Shaper3d doesn’t handle text very well and can’t do things like wrap, and nomad scaling is not the best so sometimes it’s easier to bring in the model scale it in bambu and then add precise holes or bases with bambu primitives, etc.
