Thanks for the in-depth review! We do have to suggest one little correction to the information provided in your video. You mentioned the A1 mini is among the latest generation Klipper machines, but in fact, all BambuLab printers' motion control FWs are not related to Klipper.

I heard it was referred to as KLIPPER Subset firmware so not a 100% Klipper but does leverage some Klipper. The key i think was the plug and play aspect with all the critical setup features that makes it better than most. 500mm/s is damn good. D

This channel is one of the most professional ones, thankfully no silly goofiness as most other channels include. Still this channel has a nice narrative and provides knowledgeable and honest reporting. I love it for these reasons. Regarding the filament “poop”, I’m hoping for a home appliance that would melt it all down and then make new filament regardless of it being a bad color, since you can always paint your prints. There is so much innovation mentality in Shenchen that maybe such a machine can be bought by a hobby user one fine day.

There are attempts to recycle filament at home but it just isn’t worth it for now, the machines to produce filament of decent quality and in a decent amount of time are expensive.

There are companies that recycle prints. For the average user it's just not worth it. 12-20€/kg for cheap filament...that's ~330m. It's the same with pet bottles. You need at least 40 bottles to get a kg of filament from pet bottles. Some countries have as much as 0.50€ deposit per bottle...totally uneconomical for crappy filament. You can always try a diy filament extruder but from what I have seen they are just a hassle. Maybe some lokal maker space provides recycling service? Bigger print farms are doing their own filament and recycling as well. They get a very good quality (which they need in production). Slant3D is trying to get to 10$/kg and to sell their in-house filament.

Just ordered my mini today as tpu is very fiddely loading on my p1s, so thought i would try this one ,and it was on sale at £229 without multi colour, very cheap for a decent 3d printer . The amount of waste is excessive... due in part to the multicolor changes BUT it also has to do with how much the printer wipes in those little "poops", it's too much IMO...

A 4 color print with Bambu's mini AMS or full AMS is often 2X to 3X the wasted filament than what the print actually uses. Its ridiculous and why I stopped using my AMS on my P1P after 2 uses......And that was AFTER using purge into infill and other "tweeks"

Bambu is killing it! They've achieved what I always wanted from 3D printing. Press 'print' > collect object. I HATED tweaking and adjusting, and modding. Just ordered my second X1C today, and am trying to justify ordering one of these too. Thanks for the great detailed review!

@@chedil08 keep in mind, many of us have had our X1C for well over a year. Mine is still printing just as well and fast as it did the first day. They make a solid product! My Prusa however, has been nothing but a problem since day 1 with horrible customer support. not saying everyone experiences this, but I certainly did.

I'll copy what I said to someone else: There are various ways to mitigate this. One of which she showed. But you can also reduce the purge amount, flush into other objects/infill/supports or print a whole different object using the filament that would normally be pooped out. That's what I usually do. And then I get objects with really unique colours. And if need be, I can always paint them. I'm not sure why she didn't note the other mitigation methods. So it's possible to mitigate it, it just requires some cleverness on the part of the user. I don't really see any other solutions, aside from multiple print heads.

I understand how early entry into a technology space can be difficult; I had a steep learning curve which started 6 years ago. I've read the online starter manual and it says "When there is excessive resistance during filament feeding, the filament hub is pulled down, causing the magnet to move closer to the Hall sensor and triggering a filament entanglement alert." I haven't seen any other testers complain about FEalert, so could it be a mechanical problem at the hub of your printer?

Nice review, as always. You two really are running the most thorough and trustworthy initial review 3D printing channel on KZbin, and for that we all can't thank you enough. Onto what I see as pros and cons. Pros: -Approachability. This printer is not really for veteran 3D printing hobbyists, it's for people who are from non-technical backgrounds who are looking to make toys for their kids, homemade decorations for holidays or special events, gifts for friends, little replacement parts for things around the house, and the like. This is truly a small home appliance, while even the X1C and P1-series are large edifices of glass and aluminum that look like they belong in an Apple Store rather than next to a Cricut machine or a tub of Creative Memories stuff. Growing the base of people involved in 3D printing can only help improve economies of scale throughout the hobbyist/prosumer part of the industry. -Size. Yes, this is a pro - there's still a ton of stuff that can be printed in a 180 mm cube, particularly when it comes to toys, decor, and spare parts. The Voron V0, Ender 2 Pro, Prusa Mini, and other small printers wouldn't exist if there weren't a use case for them. -Advanced features. The noise cancellation wizardry and the new AMS design should help drive some innovation among other printer manufacturers, just as the X1C's high speed pushed the rest of the industry forward over the last year. Cons: -Absolutely no care for waste generation. The only way to make minimally-wasteful multi-color and multi-material prints is with multiple hot ends, the single hot end design Bambu loves so much is always going to be horrifically wasteful with filament. And, like their other printers, they just dump the filament poop right where it's generated. They are once again putting so much thought and effort into other facets of the printer while being totally reliant on the hobbyist community (that they are not catering to with this printer) to solve this issue...which is probably going to upset the customers they're actually going after. -An integrated thermistor and heater cartridge suggests that Bambu is doubling down on their disposable-printer-and-parts philosophy from their previous models. Bum thermistors happen from time to time, but instead of going to Amazon and spending $10 on a 5-pack of new thermistors and replacing the one bad part you now have to throw away a lot more perfectly usable parts in order to replace the one that's gone bad. -Like with the regular AMS and X1/P1, you are one firmware update away from having a brick if you don't use Bambu-branded filament. I wouldn't be surprised if there hasn't at least been discussions at Bambu about trying to do the same with spare parts...the growing industry of 3rd party parts suppliers must be infuriating to Bambu's senior management. -Bambu Lab is still a company that has given itself the power to steal any code you upload to the printer, any models you slice for the printer, and any network login information for your home network. Being able to shut off the WiFi makes it no better than Bambu's other printers, other than that P1E where Bambu just takes more money from you for the theoretical promise of not having your information stolen. -Stolen code, models, and network info isn't a surprise for a company that literally can't stop liberating other peoples' code for their own purposes (such as initially copying PrusaSlicer to make Bambu Studio, later copying all of OrcaSlicer to release a Bambu Studio update, and thieving from Printables and creations of individuals using Printables to get MakerWorld off the ground). Perhaps someone at Bambu made a bet someone at Creality over who could steal more code from the open source community? At least Creality promises to release their source code from time to time, while Bambu is militant about protecting "their" secrets. -Support is also extremely spotty other than for social media influencers. I'm not a Prusa guy (though I'd buy an XL if I ever won the lottery) but their customer support satisfaction is still light years ahead of the competition. At least when you buy printers from Creality, Sovol, and the rest you can expect to need to ask the community for good support...Bambu Lab does not prioritize that part of their customer relations at all. Ultimately, I could never recommend a Bambu Lab printer to anyone based on their shady business practices. Just look at how much companies like LDO Motors, Prusa, and now Peopoly are giving back to the 3D printing community while Bambu Lab just takes and takes (spurring the rest of the industry to action isn't worth all that). That being said, if this exact printer were released by any other company, I'd say that it would be a good starter printer for people who aren't already into 3D printing or who don't have education or work experience in STEM fields (I'd still recommend Sovol, Flying Bear, Anycubic, and the like for non-wealthy 3D printing enthusiasts). I'm sure the technical glitches will be sorted out, the community will devise solutions for at least corralling the filament poop (though fully recycling it into new filament seems to still be well out of reach for hobbyists), and you never have to worry about a bricked printer or stolen IP if you never connect the printer to your network. I'd definitely like to see a longer-term review for this printer to see how the ABL and other issues get resolved over time, and how well the AMS Lite and other components last over time. I mean, I'd like to see that kind of video more often in general (particularly for any of your recommended printers), too, it's just that I'm interested to see what kind of longevity you can get from various consumable parts, how easy it is to maintain and clean, and that sort of thing.

I researched 3d printers for 3 days after seeing one on a remote control car channel, she had the creality ke, then i read some reviews and wanted to print not repair. Was going to order the prusa but too expensive to ship to Canada, heard about bambu not being open source but then heard that was not true, was looking at the A1 but due to recall not available until May. So, not really knowing anything about 3d printers, i didnt think i woud be making any large objects anyway so ordered the A1 mini, hopeing i made the right choice for me. Thanks to your in depth review, i feel confident it will meet my needs. Happy to see i could print the transformer, if i ever get that brave with it. At 60 years, this will be a learning experience for me😢

nice thorough review as always! 🤔I wonder if the filament tangle sensor was getting tripped up by the large spool's weight along with the TPU adapter you used since its flexibility would keep it from moving immediately when the AMS pulls the filament through (specially at higher speed start/stop extrusions). 👆I imagine this could easily be confirmed or disproven by printing another adaptor in something rigid like PLA. Great Video as always! This is the only channel i watch for a A1 review, because only Pro/Cons and best for your Money. No Hype or so for this and that. Brand-Fans are needed, i understand this 100%, but the most want the best for the money. I love my Prusa Mini+, my Ender3 is more a Lab as it shoud print...For me the only Reason for Prusa was more the Community behind and what they do for the community and the hole Ecosystem. Bevor Bambulab there was not really a company that sold the high Quality as Prusa. Today is Bambu and Prusa. In the consumer space. I don't know, today for this "little" Money, Prusa or Bambu, what i buy hard decision! Prusa is Open Source, Bambu is cheap and both high Quality....hard choice!!! Industrial Printer a completely other Dimension, i never saw a bad review on a 500k Machine. That's could be interesting Video: Pros and Cons about a 500k "what ever" Printer type! It's the MINI factor that is really holding me back on this machine. I can't deny it's a great machine but that loss of ABS, PC, ASA and NYLON is tough to get past. It's a great multi material printer for under $500 that works well. It's tugging on me but I am going to wait for the bigger form factor Bambu Lab when it's released. Outstanding Review as always.

"Mini" printers are great as 2nd printer if you print a lot. They are more power efficient, can achieve same quality with less money and are more silent. If you will print small parts on big size printer, you may spend more money on power because of heat bed, than on material. I owned Prusa mini and small size limited me in 10% of the cases. Limited material selection limited me in 5% - the beaty of 3D printing is that if you need the part to be stronger, just design it thicker. As I remember, the strength increases with thickness exponentially.

@@colororb4105 worse is subjective, yes the test prints were better on the A1 Mini but that doesn’t mean it is a better printer. Most of the time you don’t need to worry about tangles and the default pressure advance settings are fine. The A1 Mini is for printing PLA, TPU and maybe PETG, nothing else. The P and X series printers have hotter and larger beds meaning more materials are possible and the P1S and X1C are enclosed meaning even more materials. If you only need to print small PLA pieces then the A1 Mini is a good choice, but if you need to print larger pieces in more types of filament then the P1S or X1C is much better.

Amazing review, definitely made my top list for next 3d printer, the multiple colours look awesome but the waste from the poop makes it to costly and to much time, I saw it said 80 filiment changes thats crazy. The print quality looked great with zero stringing at no effect playing with settings. 👍👍👍

Thank you for this review! This or the P1S may be my next 3D printer! My only major turnoff is the bed size vand the inability to support high temp filament. Is the 3DP mouse they have you print decent to use? Also is the account stuff completely optional? I'd like to not need yet another account to use a "smart" machine. Good tips on the AMS printing for saving filament btw. Super useful for those of us looking to buy this. Also don't drink Grimace's Milkshake lmao. Stay awesome and keep making these great reviews!

I came back with a question. I have shared this link with my print friends. I was only interested in a small parts production printer. This fits that need without the multifilament attachment. But as I watched more videos I realized with smart part design. the multicolor parts could be small panels not whole parts. For my trains the dashboard of engine cab can be a small panel with knobs, tubing and gauges all printed into one part a small panel that fits inside the cab and can be back lit with LEDs. This starts to get exciting. Then Look at the cost. $300 for a very high tech printer. the Bundle is $460 so the Adaptor is $160 extra. 50% the cost of the printer. In reflection one can think the Printer is discounted for the value and the Multi filament adaptor is a fair cost for what you get in flexibility. The waste is so painful to see, BUT if we design the color parts in small panels that can reduce the waste and use the feature only where is needed. Does any of that dialogue make sense as I try to justify ordering the combo today and not wait for the AI Mini alone later. Thank You for all you do for the education of users in this amazing hobby. As a Young Engineer graduating College in 1971 we thought of the engineering processes and DREAMED of such capability. And here we are as i am in retirement working in my dream environment. Although I still want a mini Mill for metal work. Converting my Dremel to a Mill has stalled. @@SoopaFlyism I love it. I mean, it is on the smaller side with 180x180x180 build area but its a fantastic little printer. I love the camera so i can check on prints without needing to physically be in the room. The print speed is impressive. I have only printed in PLA & TPU as of yet but neither have given me any issues., One thing Im not a fan of is how much filament it wastes when switching colors, calibrating extrusion flow & such but its a minor gripe as that can be disabled. I will in the future be upgrading to a bambu p1p/s when the need for a bigger build area is required, but the a1 mini does me very well. Solid printer. The ams is very cool aswell. makes things very easy when dealing with multi color prints. I use tpu via the external spool holder on the printer itself, but PLA & such is great for the ams. I am excited to get home from a work trip & try out printing ABS, PETG & some PLA-CF.

Would the AMS Lite work if it was hung upside down above the printer to reduce table space? I suspect the length of each tube must remain uncut do to presets for the filament changes?

I am looking for my first ever 3d printer and print my first ever print. I am only going to use TPU for my FPV racing drones and wondering if this would be a good option? Also will only be doing one color at a time per print. Thanks for the content.
