Banning IO means more spells will see play, and given that skill drain is alive and so is mystic mine, monster effects are less good and spell/trap removal (like mst or twin) are more necessary, thereby forcing players to shift the meta of deck construction to main deck more spells and traps

That doesn’t change the fact that anyone can sacrifice their deck for the draw. Combo decks like Tri-Brigade, or Lyrilusc, or decks that just fill with hand traps could potentially extend with any card they draw, and they surely aren’t running that many one-offs.

People complain about floodgates so much but in reality we just have to revert back to older yugioh where main deck spell and trap removal become mandatory. 3 twins or MSTs for even older formats used to be a must and I like the idea of having to main deck other interactive cards. Sure skill drain to three but main vortex’s or twisters to deal with that. If your deck auto loses to mine or drain maybe we should start building around them and have a bit more balance in the game.

@@outkastcardgames7319 that is not older yugioh, it's super old yugioh, most meta decks being combo won't run any s/t removal outside of side deck besides lightning storm (which actually provides versatility unilke twin twister or cosmic cyclone or duster which is not even reliable) because it's just not worth it unless there is beyond broken backrow deck that you cannot hope to beat without heavy backrow removal which is useless against other good combo decks and we've seen how mystic mine performed which is just annoying rather than good. Basically you make your one niche bad matchup slightly better but make all others that will come significantly more often worse for no reason, people need to realize we're past times where you put good cards in your deck just for sake of it and that modern yugioh is all about consistency and engine

If Konami ever wants to print a new card draw, people will have to justify it over playing Desires/Prospserity/Extravagance. I do believe the other 2 good pots will receive the same treatment sometime in the future. Desires was easy as it's the oldest and was relevant in meta decks such as Swordsoul.

@@Aryzo Desires isn't what killed that deck, its Skill Drain at 3. You could always run Snow, Golden Castle and 3 Trade-In if you need to either banish or draw that badly. You're basically just down 1 draw card unless you can justify playing a copy of either Prosperity or Extravagance. If anything, this should promote further rank 8 XYZ play in it since you'd need to run more rank 8s to justify playing the 3rd Trade-In. Getting into Number 38 or other restriction-based cards seems pretty crucial now for this deck.

Pot of Desires kind of makes sense on the consistency level. The other pots, except Duality because you can't SS, messes with your already limited extra deck, whereas Desires is simply banishing 10 from the deck. Yeah there is a chance to banish something you don't want to but when you can run multiples of so many cards the chances are less. The extra deck is tight and requires you to take more of risk by banning those monsters (Prosperity, Extravagance).

Prosperity is the only fair card you named. People run Prosperity because you can pick which cards to banish in order to break even in card advantage. If someone is playing Extravagance, they are only playing Extravagance because they already don't give a damn about their extra deck. It might as well be pot of greed for them. Whoever made this banlist loves Eldlich. Because they just got super buffed despite losing IO. Because now they can draw with Extravagence for free, have a card of demise on top of 3 skill drain which doesn't affect their strategy at all.

To be fair, Skill Drain is way easier to get over than Imperial order. They want to force players to add more backrow removal, which is useless against a card that is literally designed to counter backrow removal like Imperial Order. Same goes for Skill Drain, players complain about turna being too long and too many negates, and now that won't matter since 1 set trap can literally stop your whole combo before starting, but will be easily countered by backrow removal. Those changes are objectively good, since is what players were asking: less monster effects and more spells/traps being used. About desires, I see a lot of people saying that is random and unnecesary, but it is in fact necessary since the game state allows you to do your full combo and then go +2 knowing that whatever you banish no longer affects you, since you have already set up a good board. If it is errata'd to be a "at the beginning of your main phase" or similar, because right now power creep is so high that it went from a high cost-high reward card to a literal free +2 just like Pot of Greed

@@kotkafer2292 How? As you said it's half a decade too late and HEro is rogue at best as it is. A hit that only affects HERO instead of the problem itself (Verte) is moronic. Verte is just bad card design and will only cause more issues with the game going forward, especially if Konami wants to keep fusion archetypes relevant. Just look at the new fusion spell for Fallen of Albaz. It needed a deck fusion spell for Albaz to even be relevant, and again Verte will abuse it

the pot of desire hit is easy to explain: 1st reason swordsoul, WV, Sky striker and Salat used this cards to gain an add. card advantage. They wanted to slow done this decks. 2nd reason they want to sell more pot of prosperitys :(

Prosperity is a lot healthier than desires in a lot of ways. It limits the amount of card advantage they get but tends to be really high card value since you can usually get into a live card for the scenario you're in. Consistently pretty good but it has a much lower ceiling, especially with the other two restrictions it has.

Hitting desires to 1 hurts alot of decks at the time because it was the only viable pot card every deck was playing that you could still draw card effects with that same turn, which was a reason for its power. Also does kind of force people to buy prosperity

I feel like people are overestimating that a bit. Skill drain (unlike IO) Benedetto a specific deck to really be useful. People are talking about the golden lord but you will already go heavy into back row removal CS that deck
