I am an American retired in Cebu for a couple years and I thought that banana ketchup actually had tomatoes in it. It tastes very similar to regular ketchup, just a little sweeter. It is a great dipping sauce. I like the Filipino style spaghetti made with hot dogs like they serve at Jollibee.. This was a very interesting video.

FACT: Filipinos already use tomato sauce before the Americans came. It is because we have a lot of "Spanish-Influenced tomato-based dishes" in the Philippines. Yes, the americans brought tomato ketchup in the Philippines. BUT it is NOT TRUE that we have no tomatoes in the Philippines befor the americans came.

Aside from Banana Ketchup... Filipinos have the Lechon Sauce which started as a liquid form of Liver Spread I think. This Lechon Sauce is used as a dip for roasts. I believe there is no such a condiment like this in the entire ASEAN so like Banana Ketchup, Lechon Sauce is a real Filipino innovation.💯

I think sarsa was a way to at least use some of the pig innards. I remember hearing that the other innards are used for making dinuguan. So basically when they slaughter a pig for lechon, they also get to make other dishes.

Some foreigners don't believe that banana ketchup really exists, but in fact they're commonly found in the PH. In Filipino style spaghetti we even use banana ketchup as the sauce, that makes it taste sweet.

As a kid I love it but now as an adult I hate it because of how sweet it is. I still buy one though, just to remind myself of the taste.

As an immigrant, I have brought so many bottles of UFC and Jufran to the break rooms of offices I’ve worked in while in the US. My super sneaky influencer campaign worked! 😉 I’ve converted so many of my American colleagues 😂 (cool story bro : one of the streets in the neighborhood where I grew up , was renamed to Maria Orosa Street, about 20 years ago 👍)

When I was a kid, I don't like banana ketchup. It's too acidic, and I realized that why later on. It tastes good for savory foods but not snacks.
