Ya know, going into this patch, I figured that it’d get horrifying and lore-heavy sooner or later(Because, well, it’s Penacony) and that the monkeys(and their associated brainrot) were just the messenger for that, so to speak After playing this patch, I can say that’s pretty much the long and short of it(And there’s a huge Rhythm Heaven reference in the form of Sound Hunt right after it as a nice bonus) They played “Return to monke” for horror and it actually kinda worked, as befits a Genius(I also called this being the patch where we’d finally get to see Dr. Primitive get involved with the plot in some capacity)

I've read around that some werent on with this Trailblaze mission because there wasnt much dropping moments compared to first Penancony arc during 2.0. On the other hand, myself as a uni student and in mid 20s, Paperfold University story has been hitting me close to home with some stuffs like exam pain and thesis rejection dialogue from npcs, the Dean complaining about how bad the performance of students is now compared to his time when job landings were on the spot (in reference to the irl job market nowadays), and trends that quickly go out soon as it went viral. I know it wasnt bombastic compared to 2.0 and 2.1 when I had a blast with the Sunday/Septimus boss fight but hey everyone has their own opinion on what they like and they dont like.

The first half of the quest was very weird,at least Mr.Reca and the overall intrigue the whole _monkey business_ generated held it together until the engines started running and we discovered what was actually going on. Of course,since this is about brainrot we had to go through the banabrainrot and some people actually went _bananas_ after so much of the monkeys. But banana puns aside. I think this TC is great because it managed to give something to everyone without adding too much unnecessary fluff because everything was built-in and the absurd setup made anything that felt thown in be more acceptable because as Robin figured out "absurd situations require absurd solutions". I don't know what the bananas I'm talking about,so I'm ending it now

I find extra funny how a game that wants to literally fry your brain with too much FOMO and shit to do, makes a commentary about brain rot, I really like HSTR story, I am trying to focus only in leveling up and build up the characters I like and complete all the story, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't bombarding my brain all the time with indicators of "incomplete" objectives and other shit, and while I like the ingame chat among the characters because it even has interesting pieces of story and lore, I found exhausting that more than half of the messages always force upon you a secondary or daily mission it is just too annoying, I even stopped to read the messages entirely for that reason, it is like looking at my irl whatsapp more than half of the messages are about people waiting for me to do shit for them (I am a lawyer btw) so HSTR ingame chat offends me at a personal level it is like irl all over again. Also with the juxtaposition of the Hunt and the Erudition (and the setting being a campus) this made me think "yeah this is about the big US parties and their backers". I have actually been losing interest in HSR for a while, I felt Penacony was overhyped and failed to deliver after a strong 2.0 patch. Based on the trailer I was expecting this patch to be really bad filler and went into it expecting to skim dialogue and skip half the VA and skip Rappa. Ended up with a new favorite character and reignited interest in the game.

I would argue that Demon Slayer itself is narratively speaking, brainrot. Demon Slayer is much less involved than say World Trigger as far as battle shounen goes. Obviously worse brainrot exists (rent a girlfriend, redo healer, etc), but in terms of battle shounen demon slayer is really, REALLY carried by the animation in anime adaptation. I read the manga after finishing season 1, and it's slop, it drained through my brain in a matter of days and I can't give a flying fuck to reread it. Whereas every time I read world trigger, I feel like I'm understanding another layer to the events that I had neglected before or only touched on for a moment. Hell even Yu Yu Hakusho has stuck around better and I watched that shit 6 or so years ago. So when you say the defeat of demon slayer is somehow the defeat of "classical media" in favor of "brainrot," I cannot agree. In my view, demon slayer getting overturned is simply the polarization of people drawn to it to either more brainrot or more content; the people who want more brainrot left for tiktok memes and more shitposty shows like nokotan, the people who want more content dug for better series (I haven't followed current anime in more or less years now, lol).
