This is WONDERFUL. As a Sunday lover and psychology student, I loved how you analysed his character. It has fed into my hype for his release even more... I personally found the whole scene with Aven and Ratio really interesting. I am super forgetful, so I'd have to go back and analyse it well- but to me it looked like for a moment he really ended up trusting Ratio, and then when he found out it was just another betrayal, he acted like he'd known all along. He really needs to make friends, eat sweets and paint colorful little pictures :'(

Okay I'm going to be honest this made me kind of emotional, one of the things that enticed me in playing HSR and eventually playing it is the discussion around Sunday and his appearance within fan art. I was curious with his character because his design is so beautiful and his splash art is just majestic, but also there were remnants of his story just scattered around the internet. I succumbed one day and I immediately tried to find Sunday's profile in the game but he wasn't there and in my surprise he isn't a playable character until by December. In hindsight I knew somewhat that he had a prominent role and a tragic story, watching your character analysis of his it made me love him even more. A kind boy, groomed and exploited, who wanted to save everyone to the extent of losing himself, a repressed boy who rationalized his trauma and inner turmoil through his forethought for everyone in penacony, who lived in a state of delusion but so sincere of his intent. As someone who had thoughts similar of his relating to dreams and his escapism, a person thought to grow up as a shield needed to protect everyone until it's destroyed. Sunday is such a wonderful character with such a marvelous design and complex personality, it's ironic that the boy who seemed to have no individuality as a person seemed to have a strong presence and a memorable place in the community. I'm excited to see him in penacony, and fingers crossed would come home to me when he's released !

Sunday’s talk about the charmomy dove made me lay restless at night for almost a week. Him talking about either the cage or the nest as if they were the only two options in the world, made me think about how society currently treats those that are trauma ridden or “not normal.” For as awful as the game is in other aspects, Sunday’s whole character story alone beats the entirety of complexity and themes of basically any other gacha except limbus for me.
@CellDefense431Күн бұрын
I clicked on this video just out of curiosity, as I liked Sunday’s character but didn’t understand why. And now I realize JUST how much his character reflects so much of my experience in life, just on a smaller and far less extreme level, it’s likely why I related to his character so much but didn’t know why I did. Thank you for this video, and also for making me realize I probably need therapy lmao.

One thing i would like to add is he genuinely couldn't trust any god to guide humanity for the happiness he wished for, every one at first thought he was trying resurrect ena but no he actively betray gopher wood and takes it into his hand to do as he see fit, i like this so much because it still gives him agency over his actions, he lost trust in the harmony and in the order because fundamentally his ideals is the opposite of what ena the order stand for as we read in their books "Truth, Calendar, Language, Rules, Meaning." Ena was responsible for the civilized world and promised no happiness, on the contrary making every day a sunday or a day for rest is the opposite and in these no civilized world could hold, that's why bro almost ascended and became an aeon. Sunday is such an amazing and well written character i almost don't believe that hoyo managed to pull it off actually.
@kerynmacnamara68228 сағат бұрын
I have to admit, I trauma bonded with Sunday. I recognized how paranoid, how hyper-vigilant he is, how he was groomed, how he lost himself trying to protect himself. He's a fascinating character and I can't wait to see what else they do with him. Another thing I noted was the different responses to trauma from him and Aventurine. Both are deeply traumatized and both have a martyr complex. Aventurine is extremely reckless though and his determination to sacrifice himself for his goals seems like he's constantly deliberately trying to die (I do wish he had more of a sense of self preservation, he worries me), while Sunday is extremely controlled but still deep down wants to live. They're both extremely complex antagonists. Hoyoverse is great at doing antagonists that are surprisingly nuanced. Otto Apocalypse, for example. He's one of the most fascinating complex villains I've encountered. I like that Hoyoverse villains aren't pure black and white, although I do think it confuses the player base sometimes. They're nuanced and complicated, often characters that are capable of humanity.

Just... _Wow._ This analysis is absolutely stellar. Like, I cannot put into words how deeply profound all of this is. I love your explanations so much, as the fact that you even went out and cited sources to further emphasize your points shows me that this is a _seriously_ thoughtful piece of work. I've always heavily related to Sunday and have put aside a lot of resources to pull him in-game because I absolutely _love_ his character, his lore, his motifs, and everything related to him, and this video merely reinforces that aspect of why he's stood out to me so much since the moment I first saw him. It hurts my soul to see so many people being to quick to judge him and denote him the villain when they have no clue what all he has endured both around and within. His environment did not favor his innocence, and I've always felt so deeply for his situation in how all of his dreams were squashed at a young age. It hurt to see him forced to stay within the confines of his cage and never take flight. That being said, I'm hopeful for his future and how he will be able to come to terms with his past sins, learning and potentially growing from them. He's got so much potential and I'm excited to be able to witness it. Also, I really appreciate you pointing out the details in his design! As an artist, I analyze those details constantly but often am not entirely sure what they might allude to. Your thoughts help me to better grasp the intent behind them so thank you for that! One critique I do have on this video is that your audio quality (mainly volume) could be improved, but that is seriously it. Everything else was executed _beautifully._

At first I didn't really like Sunday or fully understood him. He seemed intresting but a bit off too. But I started to realize that I really relate to him, in fact to a degree I could say that he's literally me, which is a whole 180. This analysis gives so much more context to him then I could get from hsr alone and my gosh can I relate. Not with controlling others but trying to help if they want it, the thing with free will, self evaluation, isolation, sacrifice, thinking on the past, most things here. Man, I didn't think a character in this game would come so close to mirror me.

love this video!!! learning a lot and it’s always so great listening to people who know more than you and can show things that i otherwise wouldn’t have known. i think what’s also interesting is sunday’s all or nothing mindset, furthering how he and aventurine are supposed to be foils to each other. aventurine will recklessly risk everything, even at the risk of being reduced to nothing, but sunday’s version of all or nothing is; “if something can’t fix everything, its worth nothing”

Such an amazing analysis, I loved how well put together and insightful this all is. Sunday has grown on me so much since he was first introduced and is by far one of my favorites that holds so much complexity and deeply thought out ideals to delve into and no matter how much I look into his character it still amazes me how much others are able to find more and add onto it, just proves just how well designed this character is. He's a tragically flawed character who has worked so much of his life into trying to create the perfect paradise where no one has to suffer but ultimately forsakes that the road to happiness involves one's humanity, the good and the bad. Often times true happiness is only experienced after one suffers, it's because you went down a difficult path or overcame obstacles that one can smile looking back at it all. This is something Sunday still has to realize for himself as well for someone who's been so isolated and lonely, now that he's moving forward with a new perspective given to him by the Astral Express he can hopefully see the world in another lens that doesn't involve seeing things with a pessimistic outlook. Looking forward to see his story continue in 2.7, good luck on your Sunday pulls! (and also hello from another marth and lyon enjoyer judging off your past content haha :>)

@sirensong1794Күн бұрын
really good video! ive thought a lot about sunday so it was really great to see a lot of my thoughts reflected. I have some of my own interpretations to add. sunday's plan didnt actually involve reviving the order, but rather the description of his second boss form describes the birth of a new being with the power of the order and harmony, and its even called an embryo. sunday would've outright become an aeon himself. given how aeons are, they can only really act according to their embodied paths. they are massively powerful but also defined by instinct. essentially, sunday would cease to be sunday, sacrificing his own selfhood to make this aeon a reality. in addition to looking at him through the lens of trauma, there is also an in game implication sunday may have OCD. if you examine the round table in the dewlight pavilion there is a comment about the owner of the place being able to "overcome their obsessive compulsions", and in the original chinese text and several other translations it outright says OCD. im no psychologist but i do have OCD and when i heard this tidbit i could immediately believe it, obsessions about doing things right, playing them in your head over and over again, etc. the recent relic set that is his clothes also has descriptions that are all about sunday getting ready and really hammer this point home of how precise he is about his appearance. one thing that i really appreciate is that the game did not explicitly pose harmony as the correct answer. robin, who's incredibly dedicated to the harmony, has distaced herself from the family, the major harmony faction, and their non order affiliated branches are still full of plenty of problems, pretty much everything you'd expect from being involved in the business of making money. the harmony's ideal form only works when everyone has genuine intent. robin, for her part, doesnt tell sunday he has to believe in the harmony, but rather that that even if the harmony cant fulfill his dream, surely the order isnt the right choice either. and then in 2.6's she outright admits she still doesnt have a good answer as to an alternative. i also think this is where i slightly disagree with the video, i dont believe the astral express' words actually changed sunday's mind, at least not yet. his drip marketing description goes "The dream of the Order has dissipated, yet there are still those who will not give up on their original intent." which says to me his beliefs wont be so easily swayed, and to be honest they don't engage much with sunday's proposal directly. himeko mostly doesnt trust him to not just want to take control, firefly values personal freedom too much because of her personal circumstances, and march and trailblazer are either confused or cant contribute a ton by virtue of being mostly silent. it makes sense why actions speak louder than words, i think the population of penacony's will as a whole denying the dream does more to challenge his ideals, because they are actually people he would view as in need of saving, whereas the express is "strong" in his eyes, they live a reality that most people simply dont get and thus to him its easy for them to talk about freedom when they have their physical needs met, have a lot of influence as a faction, and dont have many obligations tying them down. and it makes sense, a small group of people who have self actualized isnt going to change his mind because his worldview applies to ALL of humanity, but seeing large scale societies making differences would. i think 2.7 will probably go into all this anyways, but point being he's still got a ways to go in my mind
@PhantomHeit16 сағат бұрын
I definitely agree with your points, thanks for sharing! OCD as well as other conditions are especially common in developmental trauma due to executive functioning impairments, so I believe there are quite a range of labels he could fit into with that being probably the most notable one. And yeah, being proven wrong and being able to accept and change your values are different, especially with how many things were internalized within him. I'm glad to see them keeping elements of the Order and his old beliefs in his design and highlighting the conflict between them as I imagine it will be an extremely long journey for him to fully change-- he just has the environment to make that possible in time now. Super excited to see where everything goes!

Watching this video brought back to my attention how much I sympathized and empathized with Sunday, having had similar thoughts, views and tendencies as he had. Now I'm sitting here overanalysing if I may also suffer from (something similar to) C PTSD or if I am trying to make excuses for myself again. I think, if I have learned anything from this video it is that I should not dwell to much on these thoughts, but that is easier said than done and unlike Sunday I really I have no one to wake/shake me up from thoughts going in circles ... So I may need some more time to gather and organize my thoughts again
