This is my review of the BAND-MAID May 19th Atlanta, Georgia, USA show!! Included are a few inteviews with some fans from the line and my thoughts on the show. Also, some okay camera work from me with not near enough pictures. I think, after hearing what I have to say, you will understand why I didn't take many photos or video. Other people have been just fine doing it. I wanted to watch these masters of music as closely as possible.
If you, somehow, stumbled upon this without knowing BAND-MAID, go support their channel!!!! ‪@BANDMAID‬
Thanks so much for the support, I couldn't do this without the Patrons!

It reminds me of my feelings after my first Band-Maid concert - "the best concert of my life" and it took me a week to come down a bit. Even years later, I still think it's in my top 3 concerts (as an example, another contender is AC/DC in 79!). Thank you for your report Ryan, very genuine and full of love.

How did I find BAND-MAID? I was downtown Seattle for a cultural event weekend and saw a group of very cute Japanese girls dressed in amazing cloths doing a photoshoot down on the waterfront. I had no idea who they were at the time. But some months later (maybe even a year) while browsing KZbin I ran into their video "Dice" and recognize them from the Seattle encounter. I knew after just a few bars of Dice that BAND-MAID was going to go big someday. I started looking them up on other social networks and found their Facebook account. After making a comment on how good they were I got an immediate reply and I had a short happy bubbly conversation with somebody obviously not an english speaker who called herself "Miku". It was not until I found out the names of the members a few hours later that I realize who I may have been talking to... My heart was pounding for the rest of the day....

Wow indeed! Unless you're talking about last year, sounds like your first encounter would have been when they played Sakuracon in 2016, their first US concert. Which is pretty dang cool. You probably already know that a lot of wandering-around-Seattle-as-Maids footage got cut into the Before Yesterday MV.

Wow, this show was AMAZING!! I was watching in awe as they all were in the zone performing (when I wasn't cheering my head off, lol)! The crowd was so pumped!! We all got into it, feeling every bit of it!! I also want to add, after they left the stage, we were chanting "One more song" and "encore!" They lit up Atlanta that night! I can't wait 'til they return!

Thanks so much for the interviews and for going into detail about your experience, Ryan! That night is going to be hard to beat... or forget! I don't think any guitarist from any other band plays as many notes as Kanami. She works harder than we think. But she's also a pro with her own songs so she's got the power and stamina... as do all the Maids. 🤘🤘

Oh yeah Saiki. This was my first live show in Austin, so no prior comparison, but Saiki almost sucked ALL the oxygen out of the room, she was mesmerizing I could almost not take my eyes off of her. Besides her incredible powerful voice, her stage moves, those swinging expressive arms, her emotive facial expressions, she sings with such emotion and feeling. But this is BM and the other 4 ladies are impossible to ignore, impossible. This is THE band in the world right now, there is no one I would rather see, no one.

Wow! Great job putting this together so quickly. I am really glad you got Bill's name, as I could not remember it from when we were all talking by the bus. Fun reliving those interviews so quickly. And Brian and his lovely wife (I am sure Brian will see this so please remind me of her name) were a pleasure to watch the show with, as I had a Japanese translator standing next to me because of her, but more importantly I was able to watch their enjoyment, especially with "Warning", "Daydreaming", and "Memorable" (along with 16 other songs). And seeing our buddy Bill stand up and give a standing ovation for his favorite song, "Choose Me", was another cherry on top. Fun times.

This was a great video to watch. Sounds like you really did enjoy it a little extra for me on my birthday as I mentioned on Twitter. Also got me super hyped for my turn in August. I also recognized those guys from the Dallas Nemophila show. First of all, thanks for the interview! Great review of the show. I was in the same row as you but between Misa and Miku. It was great to see Misa do her thing up close, she is quite intense. The sound overall was fantastic but I could hear the bass solos better than the guitar solos until they switched sides. Still it was excellent overall. And of course I could see Miku very well and she really seemed to be having a blast. I agree with the Akane assessment. She was hard to see and everytime I tried to get a decent shot of her Miku would block it. The queen Saiki was on point and seemed very relaxed, it is hard to take your eyes off of her as she commands the stage. I ready for them to come back! Anyway, thanks again Ryan and it was exciting to finally meet you! Rock on brother!

I'll add same comment one of your interview guys said, I've been with you Ryan since I discovered BM about a year ago. I really love hearing reactions from folks who play and understand music, whereas I just love music as a listener- I've learned a lot and helped me understand ever better and enjoy even more. I was at the Austin show, same deal, the show was amazing and the sound was perfect, the ladies were on fire and the crowd was very loud and it was awesome. I really feel like the US breakout is happening now and the momentum is snowballing. Enjoy these smaller venues now cuz may not happen again.

Hi Ryan! I agree with your commenrs about Saiki. I think something clicked inside her at the last US tour. Specially at the last show in Chicago. You could see the emotion and the gratitude in her face. And that has carried on to this US tour. It was my 3rd concert and 2nd with my daughter. Interesting to see so many families there, grand/parents with grand/children; some for the love of rock some for the love of anime but I'm sure all for the love of Band-Maid!

Ryan, It was great meeting you. You're the first reviewer I saw on KZbin and have followed you, the Gaijin Guys, and the Maid New Network since. Thanks for helping me get in the show after my ticket got lost in the Ticketmaster app. I hope you keep the t-shirt I gave you and the Maids keep the gifts I brought them. I understand from the event staff, the band was going to take the cooler of beer with them on the bus when they left. They good thing was Miku didn't drink the tequila before the concert, so if Nashville is a mess, sorry NOT! I'll keep viewing you and the other guys and making comments.

Thanks for this post. I appreciate the time you put into it. I saw them in Austin Monday, they were great. Can't say enough about Saiki. Seeing Kanami live was probably the biggest treat. Even with Saiki there, Kanami often owned the stage for the Austin crowd. It's a tough audience in this town for guitar players -- well, the statue of Stevie Ray is the closest thing we have to a founders monument -- but she owned it. She is often so far back in their recording mix that I didn't fully realize how much she plays throughout every song. That said, they were all on fire. It was their second stop. I hope the new lighter tour schedule helps them keep up the energy throughout.
