They played Choose Me on a Japanese TV show and I will never forget the face of the presenter on that show. His jaw literally dropped to the floor🤣 The first thing he said was that the bass and drums sounded incredibly heavy and thick🎸🥁🔥

Kanami, the lead guitarist, usually composes the songs. One day, Kanami asked other members to compose music or provide phrases. Kanami put together what she received from members and arranged it into one song. It is Blooming.

When 5 masters of their craft come up with something together, nothing less than a masterpiece can come out of it. Kanami is a little genius. Always the whole in mind and an eye on each of the others. 🔥🤘🏻 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' 🎶🕊

Kanami, Lead Guitarist composes most of their songs. Obviously a musical genius, as she is often referred to. After she composes the songs she runs them by each band member and discusses their parts with them, making minor changes or customizing them to each member. Miku, rhythm guitar, couldn't even play guitar when the band was formed. Kanami has taught her how to be an awesome guitarist and has mentored her the whole way. She writes Miku's part such that she progressively challenges her to improve and then helps her learn how to play to that level. Obviously this was an awesome strategy THAT WORKED! A lot of their songs have very abrupt endings, like this one, leaving you wanting more.

Always have to smile when people refer to Kanami's 'solo' in Blooming. Fair enough Saiki is not singing, but as you said Akane never stops, Misa is all over 20 frets and Miku is absolutely thrashing the hell out of that poor Zemaitis. Those three do more work during that 'solo' than some bands do in a whole song, but somehow leave space for Kanami to work her magic.
@surfingasongwave Жыл бұрын
I'm late to this party, but you're exactly right about the way Kanami's mind works. She has a very unusual way of thinking about music, and it's not "a Japanese thing" because there are plenty of very good Japanese bands and guitarists who think "normally." She writes and plays things that at first listen are very odd but after you've heard it, it sounds normal and you realize it can't be any other way. She is a genius. I love this lyric: _"Far away, take me somewhere far away. Reach out your hand, desire more, the melody continues on"_

Different? Yep. There IS an underlying theme, but I will ever be grateful to my great grand daughters for introducing me to Band Maid. Ballad? About Us. Thrash? Rinne. Punk? Black Hole. Funk? Manners. And the variants keep going and going. Good music did not die in America, it moved to Japan to escape the 90s and 2000s!

Slitthroat, you should react to aclip from Band Maid's one hour performance at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago this past summer. There is a two song combination in the performance of "Dice/Hate?" that is amazing. That clip has gone viral all over KZbin. (Band Maid does not restrict any KZbin videos of their performances). The performance was broadcast on Hulu, and while the camera guys didn't do the greatest job of covering their work, the enhance sound clip is awesome. During "Dice" there is a small bass/guitar duel between Misa. the bassist, and Kamani, the lead guitarist. During the interlude between the two songs, Akane, the drummer, never stopped hammering her drum kit and made a seamless transition into "Hate?". During "Hate" there is an epic bass versus lead guitar "call and respond" duel between Misa and Kanami again. Thsi dual really set the crown off. It's a must-see!!!

The Ladies have almost their entire discography available on their channel under the Releases tab. Their fist Mini-Album and some specials, demo's and one-offs are not there. Also they don't have the "Alternate" versions there. Once you get deeper into the Band-Maid Pigeon Hole, we will start pointing out where to find the alternate versions to you. Trust me, they are worth the wait.

Two of my consistently top-5 Maids songs. Wonder why I like them so much. Could it be because they both have A. double Mincho solos? B. Boff bass lines? C. Catchy melodies? D. Dynamic drumming? E. Superb singing? Gonna have to go with A because every Maids song has B, C, D and E.

Yes, they definitely don't fit into a box very well. It's like someone listening to 15 seconds, saying something semi-disparaging like "Oh, they're _____ (genre)", having Miku tap them on the shoulder going " Excuse me, box was stifling, Po" and Kanami tapping the other shoulder, "Sorry, box wasn't rated for so many different things but now that it's exploded and is in pieces scattered all over the room, it's almost big enough!"

All aboard! Band Maid rock n rollercoaster 🎢 taking off shortly 🚀 The Happiest Rock Band in the World! Glad you noticed how they don’t do cookie cutter stuff. Exceptionally creative. Notice that they don’t even copy verse structure in the same song. Band Maid 🚫 AC/DC! 😂 How long does this ride take? Put it this way: they just released a “Greatest Hits” double album 💿 💿 that (not exaggerating) left off enough material for another entire album. “From Now On,” a heavy metal instrumental, is surely on your list somewhere. Here are some serious bangers I think your personal tastes will like: “DICE,” official music video “Real Existence,” official live video “Don’t you tell ME,” official live video “the non-fiction days,” official music video “Rinne/Reincarnation,” official music video (heavier than Shambles) Here are some of their more complex and unique songs: “Puzzle,” official live video “Onset,” another instrumental, official live video “Wonderland,” official live video “Freedom,” official live video, arena rock/pop with a drum solo! And my personal favorite, a song that inconceivably got left off the Greatest Hits album. THE banger of bangers, what I describe as Band Maid’s Carry on Wayward Son, “Moratorium!” Gotta get the live version. I personally guarantee you will love it, or your money back 💰

What do you think is the chance of them touring Australia? Otoboke beaver toured NZ and Adelaide? and Melbourne this year and had sell out shows so I'm hoping the Maids might follow the steps of some other Japanese bands including babymetal.

Well, brother, not only are you just getting started with Band-Maid, you are just getting started with amazing female Japanese bands. You'd really enjoy my favorite Band-Maid song, "YOLO". There's a MV on their channel. I also recommend "Daydreaming", which contains my favorite solo by Kanami. Also try the live version of "No God" at Tokyo Garden. They also have a Covid on-line version of "No God", too. When you're ready for more bands, there are Nemophila and Lovebites, both a little heavier than BM. For Nemophila I recommend the "Adabana" and "Seize the Fate" official MV's, and any version of "Oiran". They have an official MV and two official live videos of that one on their channel. For Lovebites, try "Break the Wall", and "Set the World on Fire", both live, and their "Judgement Day" MV. There's way more where those came from. Enjoy.
