Things learned from Gekirock interview: -Miku was kinda forced by Akane to play the guitar since musically, 2 guitar can broaden the band's sound -Saiki didn't know she had to wear maid outfit. She was uncomfortable wearing them. First she wore aprons, chokers and stuff, but little by little she never wore them again. She was glad when they changed their outfits according to their tastes. Which now all black. Miku and Kanami are easily maid outfit look. MISA doesn't look like one but somehow look like a Chinese maid. -MISA's stage drink is alcohol. Whiskey. Even other bands composed of boys don't have alcohol as their stage drinks. xD -Kanami admires SANTANA, Larry Carlton, Richie Kotzen and the great Steve Vai (she studies his techniques) -Maximum the Hormone is what influenced Akane to play the drums -Saiki is a closet metal hard rock fan. She was really glad they went to hard rock. It suits her voice too. She became more determined. -All of them are timid and shy around strangers/people. But when they stand on stage, it all washes away. Returns when they get off stage. xD -Thanks to people outside of Japan, they know what their real genre path is now. Hard, Violent Rock.

+fleem5 Yah, Ai to Jounetsu no Madatoru seems Santana-esque. According to reviews on the new mini-album, Miku seems to be playing the guitar more. Real Existence and Don't Let Me Go also seems to prove that she's improving. Band-Maid concept originally was a band with twin vocals. That's why they auditioned for another vocalist instead of settling with Miku only. Plus Miku's voice is quite light and not much suited to rock songs while Saiki has a deep voice and has good vocal range.

Regardless of their popularity, I feel band maid is underrated. Rock sucks so much balls these days, Band Maid deserves to be recognized as one of the hardest rocking bands on the circuit.

They found way more success and popularity outside of Japan than they have within their home country. Now, before you start wondering "What? Don't the Japanese listen to Rock music?", let me assure you they absolutely do. Rock music is still very much mainstream in Japan, unlike in the US where it's become more niche. The issue is that the Rock bands that are popular in Japan aren't necessarily the ones that have caught on with the Western Rock community. Band-Maid got lucky someone finding themselves in the loop in the online Western fan community.

I just discovered this incredible band a few weeks back and I’m blown away and wish I had known about them many years ago. They are fantastically talented and a blast of positive energy in this mucked up world we share. I hope to see them before too long here in the USA 🇺🇸. I hope they come to Indianapolis but I’ll drive to Chicago, for sure. This is a great, fun rocker in all English. And they grown so much over the years. The last few albums are phenomenal, especially the latest Unseen World. I highly recommend it - it’s on par with the best classic rock albums of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s.

If you'd found them as recently as 2019 you could have seen them in the USA, although you'd have had to hop on a plane as they only played New York (twice), Dallas and LA (twice). They were due to play a festival in Ohio in 2020, but that had to be scrapped. They are great live, quite strangely *exactly* how you imagine them to be. They also have a lot of fun between between songs too.

I'm always surprised this one doesn't feature more highly in peoples' lists of favourites. My introduction to Band Maid, like so many I'd imagine, was through "Thrill", but it was clicking on this one next that sold the band to me. While it may not have the intricacy or heaviness of their later stuff, what is there is three minutes of perfection.

They are all great musicians, and they write their own music. Latest albums are 100% their own music and lyrics. The first albums was record company writers, with a few of Miku's lyrics. On the album Brand New Maid their first self written song was released, Alone. From the next album after that more than half was written by themselves. On the next album World Domination, most songs except one or two was written by themselves, same on the next album Conqueror. I'm late with the reply 🙂
