From Japan This song was written by Kanami, who was looking at life through the COVID-19 pandemic and the death of her grandmother, and the meaning of life. The lyrics were written by Saiki. She also believes that music and art can be rediscovered and give courage to the next generation even after the people who created them have passed away or been forgotten, and she wrote the lyrics with this in mind. It's a song with many developments, but when performed live, the catchy rhythm repeats, and the changes are repeated over loud music, making it a dramatic song. It's an even more amazing song in live performances.

The majority of Band-Maid songs require multiple listens to gain an understanding of what is happening with the overall composition and arrangement. This is one of few bands where each listen garners more respect for their talent as musicians.

From an interview: KANAMI: "Yes. Actually, SAIKI had been telling me for a while that she wanted a song with a lot of development. And when I was making this song, I happened to have experienced the death of someone close to me (most believe she's referring to the passing of her grandmother), so I was thinking about things like 'What is life?' and 'What does it mean to live?' So I thought I'd like to try to express things like 'What is a person's life?' and 'Life has ups and downs' through music. Even though there are ups and downs and many changes, there should be a core that never changes, so I expressed that in the riff..." As for MISA, she writes her bass lines. Kanami does the initial composition. Sends it to MISA to add the bass lines, usually will little direction from Kanami unless Kanami created with something specific in mind...like I want a slap part here, etc. From what has been said, MISA works very quickly and then when Kanami gets it back, she works on the drums with feedback from Akane. She adds each of the different layers needed. If I remember correctly, she does the rhythm guitar last. Miku is the main lyricist, but this song was written by Saiki, who has been taking on more lyrics recently. Miku tends to have more poetic lyrics with complicated words and meanings. Often uses duel meaning word combinations with English and Japanese words. Like in "Influencer", "Chit Chat" in English with "Chi cha" in Japanese. Saiki is a bit more straight forward. "Hate?" is a good example. There was no mincing of words there...hate was hate..."I hate you. I hate you I hate you. I don't give a $#!T about you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you...."😂😂😂 PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

Very good observation about how they use English and Japanese for the phrasing and how it fits the song

I absolutely loved the song on first listen. You can immediately hear this song is a story, and feel the emotions in the vocals and the music. Then after reading lyrics properly I loved this song even more. Such an amazing storytelling.

Great reaction and you're one of the few reactors that picked up in the use of English to serve the song in the flow of sounds to fit into the music. They've talked about the lyric writing, they start after the instrumental parts are finished. As for the bass (and drums), Kanami (lead guitarist/composer) writes a demo and sends it to MISA (bassist) who then writes her parts and send that to the drummer who writes her part (the demo contains the bones of the song including bass and drum parts) and sends all that back to Kanami who then arranges all the parts. Once done Miku (second guitar) and Saiki (main vocals) start on the lyrics. They do use English for certain parts as an English word might fit batter sound wise. For some of the Japanese words they sometimes leave out sounds that don't fit (which makes it hard for Japanese speakers to understand).

There’s like 4 or 5 different sections. I wouldn’t say that this is a standard structure.
@greylocke100Ай бұрын
I think he was referring to each section follows that structure. Not the song as a whole, but each individual section. That is how I interpreted it.

My understanding is that Kanami (lead guitar) is the primary composer. Misa then adds her bass lines after sending them to Saiki (vocals) first for her opinion. (Is that sometimes, usually, always?) Miku (co-vocals and guitar) is the primary lyricist.
@grahamreed8774Ай бұрын
Miku, who write the lyrics, can speak pretty good English. Hence, with the use of both languages, she instantly knows what will fit best.

Her fluency is debatable. Probably reads much more than speaks. And almost certainly not quickly in deciding. She has talked about doing much research to find the right word.

Thanks gents. I read some comments from a Japanese-speaking fan who said that Band Maid also cuts syllables from Japanese to make lyrics fit. He gave the example of them using 9 syllables in a phrase that would normally take 17. This apparently can make their Japanese lyrics hard to understand at times. Their new album Epic Narratives is fantastic. Cheers.

Kanami writes the songs. She then programs the bass and drum parts and passes the song to the band for their input. Usually, Misa and Akane send their rewrite back to Kanami. Kanami sometimes challenges the other's performance. Once she asked Akane what the fastest BPM she could play was, she replied that it was 180 - 190 BPM, so Kanami wrote the song with 220 BPM as a challenge. You can listen to this song, “Black Hole,” from the “Unseen World” Album. Both of you do a great job breaking down and commenting on songs.

The lyrical genius of Kobato Miku is so underrated. And now she writes really well in English if she wants to. She's deeply into language too, to the point her first job out school was teaching classical Japanese. She may not have the college degrees like the others but she's a really deep thinker.

The songs already released earlier in the year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production. And as for Miku and Saiki, the sky's the limit for what they'll want to do in merch, fashion and art, etc.. Thx, Nath & Johnny!

This album has all kind of songs for everyone, all the mid tempos songs are great but if you want a bit harder rock songs apart from Shamble, both Toi et Moi and Tamaya! are bloody awesome. The most progressive and weird one is probably the new instrumental song Get to the top which they performed in recent gig.

Not even close to my first time checking out Band Maid but I think this track is more story/emotion driven. Lyrics, vocals and progression build throughout the song. They're great songwriters and, I think intentionally, this is a heavy ballad if that makes sense? They're too smart and I appreciate this for what it is but it's not even close to the top for me when it comes to Band Maid. That fucking riff though right? Great analysis too we're on the same page.
