I first watched Band Maid on your channel Nikki, and it was the drummer that stood out to me since your first reaction to them...they're all majorly talented musicians, and it's great that they each have their chance to shine...and yes, having the feedback, the back and forth from an audience, must feel exhilarating indeed

What impresses me is that the drum solo is completely into the beat with the song itself. So when Misa then comes in with her bass and then Kanami with her guitar and does her solo, they just have to keep up with the beat and do their thing to continue the song. I love them for such tings.

The Maids are back in the US next month and in August celebrating their 10th anniversary of the original 5 members. My favorite are the bass solos MISA the Barefoot Assassin plays. Onset live is a killer instrumental.

Happy Easter! Yeah, I agree drum solos (also bass solos) have rarity value. My favourite bit of this one is the transition from the drum solo to guitar solo, and drummer Akane is actually still soloing all the way through to where she tosses her head back and Kanami really gets going. What makes Band-Maid's features of individual instruments so special is that they always serve the song. This drum solo, for example, keeps the rhythm and energy of the song going instead of going into crazy syncopation, which Akane does all the time in other songs where it is more appropriate. Since you said you will try a new band next Sunday, I strongly recommend you stay in Japan. So many great bands. If you want another all-female band, then Gacharic Spin (song suggestion: Mindset) or Nemophila (song suggestion: Dissension - unless you don't like scream vocals, in which case, Life). Or you could try a mixed-gender band Wagakki Band who blend rock with traditional music (song suggestion: Homura/Akatsuki no Ito). I would have suggested Lovebites but you already know about them!

Well, *Nikki* you experience *Kanami* insane guitar solo in *Choose Me* and *Akane* Thunderous drum solo in *FREEDOM* who is next *MISA, MISA, MISA* in *DICE (MV)* or *from now on* or possibly *NO GOD* or even in *Play* but you also can’t forget out the small pigeon *Miku* in the acoustic set of *Sayonakidori* so many choices I wish I was in your shoes. ☺

It's true, you don't see many drum solos, but with them, bass solos are a huge part of things too (Misa Misa MISA!). Those are really rare elsewhere.

The only thing wrong with any Band-Maid song is that it ends! 😂. The Maids always bring the joy in everything they do! If you stay with the journey down the Pigeon hole. I’m confident you’ll come to love the Maids the way so many of us do. Miku, Misa, Kanami, Akane & Saiki are a special bunch. What’s next, when do come back to them and won’t want to wait - your just scratching the surface, for sure. Most bands have 3 or 4 great songs…Band-Maid literally has 50. They are that good. For a softer side of the Maids, try, - “Bubble” - official MV - “Daydreaming” - official MV - “Start Over” - official MV Take care and rock on!! If you do have to do something different and you like drum solos, then the standard by which all other drum solos are measured is The Professor, Neil Peart (RIP) of the Canadian supergroup RUSH, R30 live in Frankfort, Germany, 2004. Hi Nikki, I enjoyed your reaction! I had that same smile on my face when I first saw Akane play that drum solo. When you see the band members gather around the drummer like they did in "Domination" and "Freedom" they are playing a game with Akane. @@nikkireviews They are a lot of fun to watch on stage. They play around with each other a lot when on stage, their intermissions are a lot like comedy shows. "Domination" was the next to last song in the show where the video was recorded, they played either 23 or 24 songs in that set. What other band would write 3 songs that were basically love letters to their fans?

They do this every show. They mess with Akane - the drummer - to try and make her laugh! So much fun to watch and they never miss a beat.

There are two types of people in the world; those that smile when when they hear Band-Maid ...and monsters. 😝 I personally love guitar solos, and while drum solos are more rare, drums always can get away with crazy drum fills which are really like tiny solos on their own. What's great about this drum solo is that even though it is quite extended, it keeps the beat throughout and it doesn't overstay its welcome. It could have been half as long and people would want more or it could have lasted longer which would be a bit pretentious and put ego ahead of the pace of the song. And you can measure every bar of the song because she keeps the beat despite all the craziness she puts on top. I've often said we never hear the original version of any song, we always hear the Akane drum cover where she takes the original beat and then goes over the top when she gets a chance and it just brings out the fun of the song, just like a drum cover of a popular song you'd find on youtube. When you get to back to Band-Maid, I highly suggest Play Live because it is arguably the heaviest on crowd participation. It's actually the song they played right before Domination in that show. It will be extremely obvious why it's a staple and fan favorite at shows (or "servings" as they like to call them, because they have fun sticking to the maid motif).

I would suggest you watch some interviews with the band too to give you an insight into their personalities. The Warning have Pau and Band-Maid have Akane, they are both insanely talented drummers with seemingly limitless energy. I love the big smile on Akane's face, I always listen to the drums and bass parts in songs. In my opinion Akane and MISA are Band-Maid's secret weapon, a strong rhythm section is the solid base in any song.

I am seeing The Warning May17, then Band-Maid May19 in Atlanta in the same venue! My two favorite bands and my two favorite rhythm sections. My favorite is The Warning. But Band-Maid, WOW. Akane and Misa may be the best rhythm section in Rock.. and Kanami. Well I named my Honda Accord, Kanami. 'nuff said. hahaha. I am so pumped!!

Songwriter Kanami has mastered the fact that 99% of musician solos are too damn long....YAY for her. I'm well in my 60's and grew up with these painfully long solos of the late 60's and early 70's.....YAAAAAWN! We had lots of marijuana back then to tolerate them, so there's that. Band-Maid has redefined solos of today by not just bringing them back....but to keep them short and leaving the audience wanting more by not over-saturating our ears with dragged out narcissistic self-indulgent "solos" of yesteryear....though classic in every way, but boring after two minutes in every way. Thank you Kanami and Band-Maid....you girls are the BEST!!!!

Love BAND-MAID...My No.1........But may I sugest my No.2?...TRiDENT...a cracking trio of Japanese ladies...Asaka (vocals, lead) Serina (bass, choral vocals) Nagisa (drums)...Tracks to check out ..."Ambivalent" LIVE at Zepp, "Cry Out", "Spoopy"...and "Voltage" from a few years back when they were known as "Girls Rock Band Kakumei" with drummer JUNNA.(she left in 2020 as I recall)..They also have a fun side with tracks like "Splash" ( back as "Girls Rock Band Kakumei") and "Distination" as TRiDENT.

Hey Nikki, I like them because they’re just like The Warning, great on official tracks and even better live. I’m pretty sure that’s what The Warning girls like about them too, their meeting was so lovely to see, they couldn’t understand each other but there was love through the music and musicianship! I really enjoyed your reaction, your face said it all straight through, my preference for solos is Guitar but very close with Drums, there are 2 drummers who really stand out for me, unfortunately they have both passed on now 🥲 - Neil Peart from Rush and Jon Bonham from Led Zeppelin, their solos were often long but legendary! 💖

Nikki, If you like a good rock beat, you should react to Manners/Black Hole, the official live video. It's a two-fer video of two separate songs. "Manners" has a relly great funk groove with the bass and drum. "Black Hole" is a frenetic song that gets the listener/viewer to imagine being sucked into a black hole in space. The two songs together show Band Maid's versatility.
