Misa the bassist was not a fan of the maid uniform. So she made a Chinese Maid Assassin outfit hers. She is a beast, quiet and shy but plays the hell out of that Black Cloud bass. Also famous for drinking whiskey and beers as well as playing barefoot.

​@@musikbyjh Misa also truly loves good music, she grew up listening to it. It was her mom that introduced her to The Pixies and the Smashing Pumpkins when she was little. Now that's parenting done right. Also Akane the Drummer's outfit is based more off a Butlers influence and designed to be more functional for drumming. Lastly Saiki's the Lead Singer's Battle Armor Maid was designed using influences from Spanish Style Maid outfits.

@@Studio-Coast_Kid I think Pixies and Pumpkins came from Misa's own interests and love of grunge, her Mum was a Hendrix and classic rock fan which of course Misa played homage to with the sticker on her 4 string Fender Jazz Bass. I could be wrong of course.

@@edwardallen4051 If her mom was into Hendrix as well it only serves to make her Cooler in my book, lol. But the info comes from a Misa article in one of the score books. I don't remember offhand if it was the Brand New Maid or WD. I know to this day Paz LeChantin is one of her favorite Bassist's. I think not positive she took over as Kim Deal's replacement after she left and subsequently went to jail after starting the Breeder's. I kinda stopped following the Pixies in the late 90's.

MISA, the bass player, never was really down with the maid outfit. So a few years in they decided each member could wear what they were comfortable with. The lead singer changed her outfit a lot but you could still kinda see the maid influence. MISA just dropped the maid outfit completely. Still though, if any ask them why MISA isn't dressed like a maid Miku, rhythm guitar and spokesperson will insist that MISA is an assassin maid.

Misa didn't feel comfortable wearing dresses, so they agreed to wear what they liked. She don't like wearing shoes either, so she goes barefoot most of the time. Her nickname is the barefoot assassin. And I think she kills that Bass, lol. You should check out Bestie and Hate? That's two of my favorite songs.

The new official live of "Puzzle" has a lot of the qualities of this with also killer vocals. Like this she takes a murderous riff right through the number, developing it brilliantly all the way through.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live twice in Tokyo and dropped my jaw twice 😲. I believe so did many of American audience at 12 venues in the last October. Band-Maid, however, did not play it in the final concert of US Tour. In an interview Kanami explained the reason why B-M didn't play it in Chicago: "From Now On requires a lot of adrenaline to play, but I was a bit anemic that day. I would have passed out if we did it". [source : Japanese magazine "PMC vol.25" page 100] .... I don't blame you, Kanami 💛。Then B-M played "From Now On" as 21st in the total 26-song setlist at Tokyo Garden Theater on Jan.9 this year. If Kanami is in good shape, her adrenaline is inexhaustible 😍

I'm a metal head myself and usually listen to extreme metal, but Band-Maid tickles the hard rock bone in me. You just need one song that speaks to you to get drawn in, and it looks like this song was it for you 😆. I believe you would like the song "Moratorium". Has a couple of sweet metal moments.

Great to hear your second reaction Jeremy! You’ve already noticed how Band Maid compositions grow on you. Sometimes it takes a few listens to catch everything they’re doing. The Maids do much more within their music than they could have. They often give away killer riffs in the same song that could’ve easily made another hit altogether! They never take the easy route of cut and paste. Every verse is different, every instrument contributes more than what most bands do. Misa’s bass lines are like four minute solos! Kanami works within and around the chords Miku lays down, and Akane’s fills are always creative, always changing to drive the song. Their music really respects the listener because they put so much effort into the details that you won’t notice until that third or fourth time. Just notice how they always augment their second verses. That’s where I started. Next song for your tastes? I’ll take a gamble and suggest: “Real Existence” Live @ Zepp 2018

I saw Band-Maid live earlier this week in Austin,Tx and they were awesome!! So many great songs by this band and these ladies are just incredible musicians, I don’t believe that they have a bad song in their catalog of over 140 songs. Today they are in Daytona, Fl opening for Slipknot and Robb Zombie at the Rockville show and I hope they are doing great, I wish I was there! I saw Nemophila in Dallas back in March and they were also incredible live. Great bands from Japan!!

Band Maid usually does 22 or so songs in a concert and they have a number of instrumentals to give the singers a break. They also do one song with the Rhythm guitarist singing lead and she does a miku magic time which is audience participation all to give Saiki(lead singer) a break. Miku is the leader of the group, she is playing a Zemaitis, Flappy Pidgeon guitar which the company made for her and sells with a pink or baby blue case, the Pidgeon refers to her(in japanese Dove and pidgeon are the same word). The PRS is because that company sponsors Kanami. The last 6 albums or so they wriite all of their own music. I suggest the live Manners and Black Hole video, No God, Influencer or for older Domination live, Rinne, Bubble, Moratorium but really everything is good. Also, live is always worth watching because they are definitely a band who can play as well live as they do recorded. They also have 14 of their songs turned into an acoustic only christmas concert they did a couple of years ago. Watch Misa, she has this talent to tuck the pick and instantly switch between pick and pop and slap.

Misa is the Barefoot Assassin... plays without shoes so she can feel the rhythm and stay in tune with the music. Also... they're music will grow on you, until it has you and then you wont be able to live without it. Its a weird phenomenon.

Funny thing The rhythm guitarists guitar is a zemaitis flappy pigeon. Her own signature line limited production and can easily match the lead guitarists prs both are $$$$$$$$. Great react .

Jeremy mate! Greetings from Shizuoka City under the benign care of Mount Fuji! Misa is popular for many reasons, but what most people forget is that she is very shy in public but quite goofy and outgoing in private and is known for her dirty jokes. Actually, she had a bit of a rough youth, what with her parents divorcing and her mother marrying again. She stayed with her mother, looking after her little step sister she is very protective of. Musically, she has had a very solid education form piano to finally concentrating on the bass. She started with a 4-string bass but now exclusively uses a 5-string instrument. She can play any kind of bass from jazz to metal and and contributes a lot to Kanami's compositions. She was introduced by the drummer Akane who attended the same highly reputed Tokyo School of Music. At one time she was feeling like quitting but has now become an indestructible pillar of the band. Misa's "Maid" costume is a take on the Chinese Housekeeper pajama . But it isn't a plain pajama outfit: it has a lot of lace, sheer fabric, sequins, and it is elegant in its details, but its 99.9% BLACK. It has been humorously noted that it really isn't a maid uniform and the joke is that she's a Ninja "Maid-Assassin'. Misa prefers to perform on bass barefoot and has been given the nickname of "The Barefoot Assassin". While lead guitar Kanami receives the most credit for Band-Maid compositions, Misa is next in line. Misa and Kanami learned piano as toddlers. Misa is a multi instrumentalist and played guitar before being invited to play bass for another band and switched to major in bass in college because of it. I see you reacted to "Blooming" and you made that "Hold-on! There's a lot more going on here than I thought)" discovery. A typical Band-Maid song, catchy on first pass, may require several hearings to recognize all the lovely fills, change-ups, and embellishments these 5 musicians pack into each performance. This is a band that becomes more impressive each time you listen to them. and you don't know what you're going to hear every time you hit the 'PLAY' button because they love mixing up genre.

@@jefffromchicago6321 The Band-Maid concept originated when Miku Kobato was a waitress at a Maid Café, a service oriented restaurant focused on making the customers happy. She liked her cute anime style French maid uniform and thought that a band playing hard rock while wearing cute maid uniforms would be memorable. She also liked the customer service concept of the Maid Café. Band-Maid concerts are called Okyuji (servings) and band members interact with the audience as though they were serving them at a café. Band-Maid puts on live shows like no other.

The bass player is known as the barefoot assassin. Now you know why. The black outfits are allegedly also maid outfits, I think one is some Spanish maid outfit and I forget about the other. All of their growth is astonishing but Kanami is just another level genius. She was basically a solo singer songwriter, keyboard player and acoustic guitarist ( think early Neil Young) when Band Maid formed although we know that she had played in school bands doing classic rock covers as well. Then over the first two years of Band Maid whilst they were playing songs provided for them she developed her rock writing and arranging skills and eventually nailed it with Alone which was quickly followed by a brilliant single 6 months later, YOLO, Matchles Gum and Unfair Game and then 2 months later with 8 more incredible new songs on Just Bring It. The floodgates were truly opened.

the lead giitarist name kanami tono use a.prs guitar actually she own multiple prs with diffrent types and she use mesa boogie triple rectifier in her amp, the rythim guiatar name miku kobato uses a high end zemaitis guitar and own multiple of it she use in the mv is her signature guitar name flappy pigeon and the amp she use iis evh,the base player name MISA use her black smoker base guitar another high end guitar and use orange amp the druumer name akane,hirose use tama drum set, dont forget the vosalist saiki atsumi shes talented and can sing very well the song is a break for the lead vocalist in every gig they have thanks sir jeremy

The stereotypical maid Cafe will have them dressed like the 2 guitarists. There's a 1000 different Cafe styles though, from cat girls to scantily clad demon girls to french maids to British to aquatic themed dresses with clip on fish tails.

Saiki (vocals) and Misa (bass player) were the least enthusiastic about the maid outfits so they eventually changed into their own outifts that fit their styles. Misa also is barefoot when she can.

If you like the instrumentals, you'll like their song, 'Without Holding Back'. However, if you want more Metal influenced BAND-MAID check out 'Different', 'Black Hole' and 'Rinne'. But no, maids don't dress like MISA. And MISA has stopped dressing like a maid, though she was always in all black. They used to call her look Maid Assassin. Sometimes the other members call her Ass Chin for the cleft in her chin. As for tuning they usually use a Digi Tech Drop Box.

Only Miku the band founder had worked in a maid cafe - that was what gave her the idea of that image and contrasting it to a hard rock sound. And no, The bassist Misa started with a more maid like outfit - it was black, but kinda like a Edo period servant / assasin look lol- and as she goes barefoot on stage the fans nicknamed her the barefoot assasin - and she has stook with that image and its moved futher away from the kinda servant/maid style from several albums back. The lead singer (whos not in this video obviously- also doesnt look like much of a maid - her outfit started kinda like a spanish style servant outfit but has moved away from that a bit more - tho still more miad/servant like than misa's. The only thing to be absolutely clear on is the look is a style they came up with from the start- its not to sexualise them - they are not a studio band - they came up the long hard way by playing hundreds of tiny gigs in pubs etc and write their own music (except in the early albums)

I looked up the word "tight" in Websters Dictionary, and overlooking my old girlfriend's photos.....Band-Maid's picture was there with no explanation.......weird right?

Watch another instrumental called WITHOUT HOLDING BACK and you'll be more impressed. They can play any genre and, in fact, blend them together in their original compositions. They aren't metal in the strict sense of the word. If you want crazy bass listen to NO GOD. You've only touched the surface.

Well that’s totally subjective depending on the person and their preferences. To some, extreme helps make the emotion even more intense…which to those folks, would make it good. Or for me, more extreme parts, time signatures, arrangements…can be more interesting sometimes. It all depends on what you like. I’m just happy that we have so many diverse artists. Otherwise, life would be pretty boring.
