Thanks for the shout out, and thanks for doing a video on the power trio. Your jaw drop during it was similar to mine. Imagine me watching that the first day I got introduced to the band. Yeah. That started the addiction. And MISA taking a bass, and running across the stage to go toe to toe with one of the greatest lead guitarists made her my instant hero. :-)

This is not unique, they have a lot of "mini live jams" as variations on the original studio songs ... the 2020 versions of "Domination" and "Freedom" are just a couple of examples. PS: I think Miku sometimes uses a voice harmonizer, and Kanami rarely uses it too.

Froggy backing vocals provided by Miku! She uses 2 different voices for this, but I think she uses 3 during Choose Me. Miku’s range is impressive, the Po is strong in that one.💪🏻🤘🏻

Another fantastic breakdown! I loved the way you talked about Kanami's choice of notes at 3:21. As a non-musician I couldn't have explained it, but that kind of thing is a big part of why I love the band so much. Their songs are just packed full of brilliant, unexpected moments like this.

On your comments about Miku's playing ability, how much do you think that can be attributed to learning from Kanami to play that specifically? Instead of most people, that start picking up guitar to play cool leads and solos, Miku went straight to rhythm

@@Glenner7 I know. I still hear things after hundreds of listens to a song, too -- like Miku's singing with her unique vocal accents and close harmonies. Or Kanami's verse riffing around the drums and Saiki's melodies. Or MISA's independant counter riffing while incorporating a little bit of what everybody else is doing. (She's very busy. No wonder she doesn't smile much because of all that concentration). And of course Akane continues to amaze me because I'm always hearing new things from her. This is why their songs continue to grow on me after all these years. Like I've said before: Band-Maid writes and performs the most dense yet beautifully integrated hard rock music in history.

I love your reactions/breakdowns you notice so much not noticed by others. you are one of the only reactors to this version by noticing the importance of Akane during the battle. her drumming there made me think of Nick Mason of Pink Floyd who supported Waters, Gilmour in similar fashion during many solos. that segment to me is one of the great moments in rock live performances. Now for fun check out the MV of Don't You Tell ME for the fun-ness of it, it covers all the Band-Maid quirks Saiki's aloofness, Kanami swooning for Saiki, Akane eating everything in sight, MISA drinking and the mischievous nature of our pigeon queen Miku. plus the rock stereotype of trashing the place. they cover it all lol

It's worth watching the official MV for this on their site, even if not as a reaction. Not only is it a really interesting MV with a bit of a story to it, but it's perhaps the only one that really shows the distincitive personalities of each member. It doesn't have the back and forth solos though. That was just something added for one tour. They mix things up and add new intros and extended pieces for a number of songs on each tour. There is a similar back and forth at a live performance of "Take Me Higher", but that clip is sadly also difficult to find.

This is a much overlooked track review wise. I haven't seen it for ages and forgotten how good it was. There are a few versions , but this awesome gtr/bass battle is the best one by far. There is a lot of bands chasing this level , but no one is getting close .

More attention should be given to Akane's drum fills in the back, providing good musical accompaniment without clashing and standing out to the bass and guitar, but also not being just a repetitive "Rythm machine". Although her contribution is very important, she keeps it discreet that normally you won't notice her. If it was another typical rock band, the drummer would be also demanding a drum solo in the song. Another thing about the dual solo is that it's not a "noodling show off" of egos, but more an extension of the song creating a unique mood and atmosphere at a live show.

@@razor1uk610 Body language I’d definitely agree. Slash is an excellent rock guitarist who I should probably listen to more and credit more but I’d grew up in the 60’s & 70’s and been immersed in the likes of Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck, Howe & Lifeson for many years by that time so I probably didn’t give GNR & Slash the depth of listen I should have - just heard the hits. I’ve heard a song or two from his work in his other projects and that’s always impressed me. I don’t think he’s had the opportunity to expand his range to the degree that Lifeson, Howe or Beck have, for instance, into longer Prog-Rock pieces where they can invoke a wider range of influence and variation in their playing but I’m sure he’d shine in that format. Same with EVH - could you imagine what Eddie could do in a long proggy piece of music - would have been very cool - and heard rumors that he had some tasty morsels in his personal recordings - hope it’s true and we get to hear those someday. Love to be in the room while Kanami is creating, for sure. 🤘🏼🎸

I did a search on triplet fills so I sort of know what's going on but can you explain what's happening with triplets and quadruples. So, please, keep on identifying the techniques the drummer using and maybe roll back to focus on just the bit we should hear. Does this makes sense? I'm kind of babbling.

WAVE--what a cool reaction to this tour de force version of the song! And I've noticed what a springboard for discussion this thread is for us Maidiacs! Your analysis is spot on, good point on Miku's rhythm guitar skills, I'm a guitarist myself and yes, she's got to be focused to play her parts in these compositions. Lots of intricate changes and yeah, those rests! And Kanami, all of those different parts that she plays, the muted arpeggios are so effective on this. She rarely takes any time off, has to be one of the hardest working guitarists around-and alot of these fills and parts can be difficult. I, too, marvel at the precision she plays with, all those glissando slides on parts, I remember thinking on a different song, wow, she could make this section alot easier for herself if she didn't do that, but then it wouldn't have the effect musically that she's looking for. Good point on the halftime section in the chorus, it IS awesome, they do that kind of thing so much. Positively brilliant. And another thing I love about Kanami is how in between her incendiary blitzing single line tremolo and hammer on riffs she'll throw in that raucous early 70's dirty double stop bend ala Chuck Berry and grind on it! Anyway, appreciate your reaction, I tend to not analyze them too much and let their musical excellence blow through me but it's cool to hear some. But I didn't even mention MISA MISA and Akane, I could wax poetic about them for days but won't--the best rhythm section working today? -----I think so! Cheers!

MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!!! 🥃🥃🥃 my all time #1 version Band-Maid song. The "conversation " between Misa and Kanami is awesome with Kanami moving those 2 along. I was so fortunate to see this Live here in LA at the Lodge. Many of us were disappointed the next year when B-M played this song and the "conversation " did not happen. But that was the Maids keep their concerts different. 🙂

Hey man--yes, so cool to see this Zepp footage on YT, so powerful and dynamic, along with the subtle work by Akane in the conversation. It'd been awhile since I'd seen this-over a week (ha ha) and it never fails to blow me away! So did you see the Splendour show? It was way too short for my tastes (they barely had time to warm up when they taped it) but it is what it is. Hopefully we got some more fans onboard. Very cool reaction by Wave too, I admit it--I just love seeing others totally digging what Band Maid does! 😃😎

Oh man... because of the way the request was titled (which I understand now), I wasn't sure if it was going to be the performance from Zepp... but I'm so glad it was. This performance of this song is mind-blowingly awesome. In the concert, this song is immediately followed by Daydreaming. :P I can't wait until you get enough reactions under your belt so that you can actually watch a concert. Good job as always.

I'm completely floored by how superb this was! How is it even possible to be this good at such a young age? It does help to have a Marshall and a PRS though! (ha ha) And the drummer had some of Akane's fills pretty close. Great work on the bass too...I wonder if Band Maid has seen it...

Check out the props MISA and Kanami give Akane after their "duel". It goes by really fast but there is a quick shot from behind Achi of both girls giving her some love. Thank you for giving her some attention as many reactors only see the two guitarist and fail to hear Achi's set ups. And thank you for holding a torch for these brilliant girls. I hope some day they are able to personally thank you for all you do for them.

Miku is definitely my fave. Look at the MV for Thrill. She was just a very kawaii guitar stand. Now she can play rhythm quite competently and it just a matter of time until she is shredding. Kanami is her teacher and I could not think of a better one for her. Thank you for your insights.

Love the song, love the review and comments. True, true, they are all genius in what they are doing in service to the song and the band. It's hard to stay with a "favorite" in the band because each member will shine at any time in any song and it always works. Especially now that they are totally in charge of their own music.

Miku has never played one note on any CD released to date. That has all been done by Kanami. Miku has been strumming chords live for sometime now. But as yet not on any recording. With the exception of the instrumental versions released with the premium CD package of Unseen World. Those are the very first recordings of Miku playing. With the next CD you will hear Miku for the very first time prerecorded.

Bruh, you basically ignored MISA in this for fawning over Kanami so much. MISA is basically playing the same runs as Mincho but just little bit different way of getting there. And yeah, Akane's minimalist drums during this interlude completely set the mood for this little call and response. You fawned all over Kanami's power stance while completely ignoring MISA just going full-on berzerker at the same time swinging her massive battle axe bass around.
@WavePotter

You are absolutely right! I guess i'll have to watch this again and pay better attention to MISA! I absolutely love Kanami but have a very special reverence for MISA as well. I kind of got the feeling like she sort of acquiesced and let Kanami spout off at the end with a sizzling flourish and let her have the glory.
