Thanks for the shout out, and thanks for doing a video on the power trio. Your jaw drop during it was similar to mine. Imagine me watching that the first day I got introduced to the band. Yeah. That started the addiction. And MISA taking a bass, and running across the stage to go toe to toe with one of the greatest lead guitarists made her my instant hero. :-)

This is not unique, they have a lot of "mini live jams" as variations on the original studio songs ... the 2020 versions of "Domination" and "Freedom" are just a couple of examples. PS: I think Miku sometimes uses a voice harmonizer, and Kanami rarely uses it too.

@@Glenner7 I know. I still hear things after hundreds of listens to a song, too -- like Miku's singing with her unique vocal accents and close harmonies. Or Kanami's verse riffing around the drums and Saiki's melodies. Or MISA's independant counter riffing while incorporating a little bit of what everybody else is doing. (She's very busy. No wonder she doesn't smile much because of all that concentration). And of course Akane continues to amaze me because I'm always hearing new things from her. This is why their songs continue to grow on me after all these years. Like I've said before: Band-Maid writes and performs the most dense yet beautifully integrated hard rock music in history.

Now for fun check out the MV of Don't You Tell ME for the fun-ness of it, it covers all the Band-Maid quirks Saiki's aloofness, Kanami swooning for Saiki, Akane eating everything in sight, MISA drinking and the mischievous nature of our pigeon queen Miku. plus the rock stereotype of trashing the place. they cover it all lol

It's worth watching the official MV for this on their site, even if not as a reaction. Not only is it a really interesting MV with a bit of a story to it, but it's perhaps the only one that really shows the distincitive personalities of each member. It doesn't have the back and forth solos though. That was just something added for one tour. They mix things up and add new intros and extended pieces for a number of songs on each tour. There is a similar back and forth at a live performance of "Take Me Higher", but that clip is sadly also difficult to find.

They are truly fabulous AND only getting better as the continue growing together. Love it!! 🤘🏼

I would add that often Kanami invokes Slash a lot for me, in her body language while playing/performing.
@bobespirit21123 жыл бұрын
@@razor1uk610 Body language I’d definitely agree. Slash is an excellent rock guitarist who I should probably listen to more and credit more but I’d grew up in the 60’s & 70’s and been immersed in the likes of Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck, Howe & Lifeson for many years by that time so I probably didn’t give GNR & Slash the depth of listen I should have - just heard the hits. I’ve heard a song or two from his work in his other projects and that’s always impressed me. I don’t think he’s had the opportunity to expand his range to the degree that Lifeson, Howe or Beck have, for instance, into longer Prog-Rock pieces where they can invoke a wider range of influence and variation in their playing but I’m sure he’d shine in that format. Same with EVH - could you imagine what Eddie could do in a long proggy piece of music - would have been very cool - and heard rumors that he had some tasty morsels in his personal recordings - hope it’s true and we get to hear those someday. Love to be in the room while Kanami is creating, for sure. 🤘🏼🎸

WAVE--what a cool reaction to this tour de force version of the song! And I've noticed what a springboard for discussion this thread is for us Maidiacs! Your analysis is spot on, good point on Miku's rhythm guitar skills, I'm a guitarist myself and yes, she's got to be focused to play her parts in these compositions. Lots of intricate changes and yeah, those rests! And Kanami, all of those different parts that she plays, the muted arpeggios are so effective on this. She rarely takes any time off, has to be one of the hardest working guitarists around-and alot of these fills and parts can be difficult. I, too, marvel at the precision she plays with, all those glissando slides on parts, I remember thinking on a different song, wow, she could make this section alot easier for herself if she didn't do that, but then it wouldn't have the effect musically that she's looking for. Good point on the halftime section in the chorus, it IS awesome, they do that kind of thing so much. Positively brilliant. And another thing I love about Kanami is how in between her incendiary blitzing single line tremolo and hammer on riffs she'll throw in that raucous early 70's dirty double stop bend ala Chuck Berry and grind on it! Anyway, appreciate your reaction, I tend to not analyze them too much and let their musical excellence blow through me but it's cool to hear some. But I didn't even mention MISA MISA and Akane, I could wax poetic about them for days but won't--the best rhythm section working today? -----I think so! Cheers!

More attention should be given to Akane's drum fills in the back, providing good musical accompaniment without clashing and standing out to the bass and guitar, but also not being just a repetitive "Rythm machine". Although her contribution is very important, she keeps it discreet that normally you won't notice her. If it was another typical rock band, the drummer would be also demanding a drum solo in the song. Another thing about the dual solo is that it's not a "noodling show off" of egos, but more an extension of the song creating a unique mood and atmosphere at a live show.

I really appreciate your ability to hear what the musicians are doing. You frequently mention triplet fills and no matter how hard I try I can't pick it up during a performance. I did a search on triplet fills so I sort of know what's going on but can you explain what's happening with triplets and quadruples. So, please, keep on identifying the techniques the drummer using and maybe roll back to focus on just the bit we should hear. Does this makes sense? I'm kind of babbling.

It really says something that even musicians kinda need not just another musician to point out things the band's doing that they haven't noticed yet, but preferably five or six others to catch everything. Or at least 95%.

WTH! lol. Thats my copy I posted to the fan group! How do I know? That's my Band-Maid branding on the intro, outro! lol It's all good, but I was not expecting that haha. I usually block sharing, saving, but that one must have slipped through. NOTE: Wave did NOT strip that video. The channel on the site must have. No harm and Im not all all upset. More amused than anything.

I don't think Miku has a problem with the song structure, pretty simple for her actually, especially when Kanami is your Sensei.

To me, the power trio portion of the song was reminiscent of Pink Floyd.

Miku has never played one note on any CD released to date. That has all been done by Kanami. Miku has been strumming chords live for sometime now. But as yet not on any recording. With the exception of the instrumental versions released with the premium CD package of Unseen World. Those are the very first recordings of Miku playing. With the next CD you will hear Miku for the very first time prerecorded.
