"Sayonakidori" means nightingale in Japanese and Miku truly becomes one in this acoustic version of the song. Her sweet voice perfectly reflects the theme and lyrics of the song. The song is loosely based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". During a romantic interlude Juliet hears a bird singing, thinking that it's a nightingale she wants the moment to continue, but Romeo realizes that the bird is actually anther kind of bird and that morning is approaching so he must leave. The longing in Miku's voice comes through reflecting Juliet's emotions. Simply said, this is just a beautiful song.

"Sayonakidori" = Nightingale. It's Miku's take on Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. In the play, one can hear the nightingale's song drifting through evening scenes. In one of Shakespeare's most well-known bird references. The Nightingale reference is "Juliet mistakes the lark's song for the nightingale's, hoping that her evening romance with Romeo can continue. Romeo corrects her and departs her bedroom at dawn". Did you notice Akane on backing vocals? Miku usually gets one song per album where she is lead vocals. Miku's songs are (in order of release): 1. "Summer Drive" 2. "Big Dad" 3. "Beauty And The Beast" 4. "Time" 5. "Rock In Me" 6. "Sayonakidori" (Nightingale) 7. "Brightest Star" This acoustic concert was live streamed on Christmas Day 2021 as a present to their fans. The band played in different combinations: BAND-MAID ONLINE CHRISTMAS ACOUSTIC 12/25/2021 Smile (All 5 members) At the drop of a hat (All 5 members) NO GOD (All 5 members) H-G-K (All 5 members) Different (Saiki, Kanami) Manners (Saiki, Kanami) Awkward (Saiki, Kanami, MISA) Wonderland (Saiki, Kanami, MISA) TIME (Miku, Akane, MISA) Sayonakidori (Miku, Akane, MISA) FORWARD (Miku, Saiki, Akane) Catharsis (All 5 members) Mirage (All 5 members) PAGE (All 5 members)

I don't know if you are aware of Miku's history (three of the seven episodes of the band's biography by Ohrenje devoted to her). She wrapped up a year with the band formed from the Idol contest she won, went to another production company to hock the idea of café maids singing hard rock, got a contract, assembled the talented band members, and then realized that her voice wasn't the best for the sound she was looking for. The production company suggested Saiki (at that point mostly doing modeling and acting). Miku took on the roll of backup singer. Noticing that a second guitarist was also needed, she had Kanami teach her to play guitar rather than expand the band further. As you see here, she was a good student. She has a large collection of guitars, and Zemaitis Guitar Company has even produced Miku signature models.

This acoustic version was arranged by MIKU herself, which is extremely rare. But this alone shows how much musical effort and growth she has made up to that point. In the original version, KANAMI requested MIKU's own highest notes to push MIKU to her limits. The sheer difficulty of the song sometimes caused her to collapse at the highest note in live performances, and the pressure that this highest note put on her often caused her to make mistakes in the lyrics or the entry of her own singing in the preceding part. Every time fans pray in their hearts for MIKU during the live performance of this song, and give her the highest praise when she could sing the highest note of the song successfully. It is the most moving moment in BAND-MAID's live performance (IMO), and that is why the fans love this song so specially. However, in this acoustic version, MIKU sings the song a half-step lower and in falsetto at the highest note for performance reasons (because of acoutitic). It is a beautiful moment, but when she sings the original version, SAIKI tells her “Don't run away!!” and does not allow her to sing this part in falsetto. Finally, as I have mentioned before, here are the names of the band members with their diacritics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am Japanese, but apparently it is difficult for westerners to pronounce AKANE. If written in phonetic symbols, I think [əkəne] is the closest. Here are how each member's names are written in phonetic symbols. Akane (əkəne) MISA (misə) Kanami (kənəmi) Miku (miku/mikɯ) Saiki (səiki)

@@mikeskates2502 Since I think you have a very good musical background, let me gently inform you (LOL). I personally think that the original version of “Sayonakidori” is one of the most complex and sophisticated of BAND-MAID's wonderful compositions, and that it is full of the composer KANAMI's playful spirit. Why the intro is structured this way, and (in the three themes in the verse) as well as the changes in beat, and by all means, please count the number of bars of the third theme before entering the chorus the first and second time respectively. I dare not go into specifics, but even in BAND-MAID's songs I think it is rare for them to have a song as strange and full of genius ideas as this one. And the most important thing is that, despite being so full of ideas and compositional skill, the listener does not feel it at all, which I think is the most wonderful thing of all.❤

@@mikeskates2502 If you listen to the original version, please pay attention to KANAMI's guitar solo in the special chorus ~ outro as well. In fact, KANAMI plays a 24-bar long solo, but she does the unbelievable thing of burying most of it under MIKU's singing. Personally, I find this to be one of KANAMI's most moving and dramatic solo melody lines and effective ideas. ... But, sorry if any of this information is a distraction from your reaction.🙏

I would like to make one small reservation: The difficulties with names and words mainly affect English speakers. For me as a German it's not a problem, because the vowels in Japanese are practically the same as in German, and I think the same applies to Spanish and other non-English languages. Nevertheless, I also had to learn a number of subtleties, but this also requires a willingness to engage more intensively with the Japanese language. Many people may not have the time or the desire to do this.

She doesn't have her sensei to fall back on like in the acoustic version of 'Catharsis', even vocally, but she has Akane singing backup, very rare. And that's A-Ka-ne, not A-Cane. Basic Japanese sounding based on English written Japanese words. This is in general and there are always exceptions. So take it for what's it worth....😂 Consonant followed by a vowel. Is a syllable. Example Sayonakidori would be Sa-yo-na-ki-do-ri. Vowel/vowels not lead by a consonant is usually a syllable. Example Akane would be A-ka-ne. Or Aoi would be A-o-i. Two consonants followed by a vowel is a syllable. Example Tokyo would be To-kyo. Or Kyoto would be Kyo-to. "N" preceded by a vowel and not followed vowel has the "n" sound as part of the syllable. Example Nikon would be Ni-kon. A, I, U, E, O would sound like the vowel sounds from Do-Re-Mi. A - the A sound from Fa sound like Ah I - the I sound from Mi sounds like Ee. U - doesnt have a sound in Do-Re-Mi but sounds like ou sound from you. E - like Re the eh sound. O - Do the Oh sound from doe. Hope that helps. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

Just a little about Japanese pronunciation. Their alphabet is a series of consonants paired with the vowels. For example, ka ki ku ke ko. So, try dividing a Japanese word into groups of two, Sa yo na ki do ri. Sometimes, n's and e's stand alone. For example, the female name Tamae would be, Ta ma e (the e sounds like ā). There is no emphasis. Mariko is ma ri ko, not ma RI ko. That is hard for English speakers to not emphasize a syllable in a word. Hope this helps.
