The MV for Thrill has a special place in their hearts for Band-Maid fans as it was the video that brought them to the world's attention and which, with it's large number of views, convinced them to keep on rocking. After that MV some 8 years ago, they've just got even better until now they are THE best Rock band in the galaxy. This live version of Thrill is from one of the online streamed concerts they performed during the time no-one could travel or go to gigs. Many other bands could have taken a look at their example of soldiering on and done similar gigs for their fans but they didn't, the lazy bastards! 🤘🤘The Unleash!!!!! anime seems to show the black cloud of covid enveloping the world and depressing the F out of everyone, including B-M members, who'd fought against their cancelled tours, including a Budokan concert, by performing live and streaming the concerts worldwide (bless them for that). The Little Pigeon seems to energise the band to keep playing this way for now...but then a second wave of darkness appears and even Miku can't get everyone together again. Then it seems that Saiki becomes the strong centre for the band and, while all except Saiki look lost as the live shots start, the other members seem to be inspired by how Saiki keeps fighting through and this energises the other band members to start playing again, with people around the world watching on various screens. Then, for the final piece of anime, the ladies use their spaceship to blast away the covid cloud and save the world. Or it all means something else entirely! Enjoying your appreciation of THE best Rock band in existence and subscribed to watch more reactions to them and other superb Japanese female bands.

The original Thrill MV saved the band from being dropped by the record and publicity company as it was put on KZbin and so many people watched and loved it. Otherwise they had asked Miku and Saiki to form something called Dance Maid and go down that route. Many tears were shed. But then once the fans saw this band. Well the rest is history. Unleash is a wonderful animation that shows clips from earlier Maid MVs and ties in with their on line concerts during Covid through to their ongoing World Domination.

Again, nice reaction! Liked the Thrill? then the next should be 'Freezer' and 'Flying High' double. About the 'Unleash', it's actually a very heavy song. If you concentrate on the bass and the drum work, you'd know what I mean. Animation is such a fun to watch, but just try listening to it with your eyes closed.

@@mtreactions That's incredibly true. They still get along with each other after ten years, and they are still pushing themselves to get better and better. Their early stuff is great - their later stuff is much more complex and difficult to pull off - but I love all of it, because it all just flat out rocks! That said, you may be ready for a ballad or two right about now - yep they kick butt on those too. Try Daydreaming. Oh, and do you know they have an alter ego band called Band-Maiko? Started as an April Fool's prank, but it's so good you'd never know! Try Gion Cho, and they a double of Band-Maid "Secret My Lips" and "Secret Maiko Lips." Japanese culture meets hard rock.

Although the lyrics for Unleash!!!!! are about their frustrations being locked down during the pandemic and finally being able to UNLEASH themselves onto the world again. By the way, there’s 5 exclamation points, one for each member of the band. My personal interpretation of the MV itself is about the Band-Maid history. The dark clouds in the beginning depict their struggles early on. Miku's red rose blooms at 0:21 and Miku is going hard on playing Thrill by herself, a reference to the long hours of practice she had to do to learn how to play. Miku looks determined and satisfied that the band is ready for the world and the Thrill MV goes viral and saved the band. The maids flying across the sky in bright sunlight while playing their instruments at 0:49 shows them on their many successful world tours. They land triumphantly on a Western US desert mountain at 0:55 which is a reference to their 2019 tour of NYC, Dallas and LA. However, they haven't planted their flag at that point. They are soon engulfed in black smoke again, which is the Covid pandemic that pretty much happened not too long after they got back to Japan from that US tour. The next scene with them looking dejected in the studio at 1:03 was perhaps about the cancellation of the Budokan concert, which would have been their largest ever venue, due to the pandemic. They start playing again with their online shows during the lockdown and the people are watching at 1:49 from their homes on their computers, phones and TV. The transformation to the super heroes is a reference to Sailor Moon that Saiki always says is her favorite Anime and they defeat the black smoke with the power of their music. In the final scene, back to the Western US mountain, a direct reference to their 2022 US tour, but this time they triumphantly plant their flag, claiming Domination of the US. Yes, they in fact dominated the stage in all the cities they have been touring this past month (12 cities all across the US), as well as the large scale rock concert, Aftershock, in California.

Right about now it's probably sinking in that this band just doesn't fail. It's just one great song after another - and you've still not even started yet when you think of how many you have left. Positive energy is a DEFINITE hallmark of this band - they bring a smile to your face and just leave you feeling better than you did before you listened. It's like magic 🙂

Thrill was there first MV from 2014 , the original is worth looking at , Unleash is from there newest album Unleash !!!!! , its about during the covid times , when they went sailor moon and in the ship they blew the covid cloud away .

A neat reference - you might note that in the opening scenes of "Unleash!!!!!" each of the Maids are isolated within some of their previous MVs - including Miku playing in the Thrill MV. The Thrill MV is special for fans interested in the Maids' origins, the first MV, saving their employment contract with their Record Company.

I think some people confuse complex for better. Thrill might be simpler in construct, but it still sounds great. Of course Band Maid can weave complex melodies (see Blooming) that sound amazing, but they can also just rock out as well

Miku's guitar is her own design ' Zemaitis Flappy Pigeon ' She is the poster girl for Zemaitis Guitars and has a nice collection=) My favorite is the "Aces and Eights" model ! Band-Maid fans notice a lot of hidden clues in this video. The one that's most poignant to me is at 7:56 where Miku is shown (Alone) in the original 2014 video Thrill where she couldn't play guitar at that point and to reflect on how far she has come since then. Also At 8:18 Kanami with hearts around her when she's close with Saiki since every fan knows that Kanami is in love with Saiki.

Regarding "Thrill" I think you're pretty much on it - in a way it's another of their "purpose" anthems; "this is who we are and what we're doing." It was written by and with Kentarō Akutsu who contributed about half their first album. Apparently they still have a good relationship with him, he also wrote "Smile" (side B on their "Glory" single). In fact, "Unleash!!!!!" is another "purpose" anthem - they've been pent up for three years and they are ready to "Unleash!!!!!" on the world. I think they played it at every show on the October U.S. tour. It's heavier in person! And yes, the anime is brilliant! We want a weekly show!

There was a social media post somewhere of the band backstage after the February 14 2020 Line Cube Shibuya show when the Budokan date was announced (February 11 2021). They were jumping up and down with happiness ... that would have been their largest concert by far and would cement their name and legitimacy. They wrote and recorded "Unseen World" and were ready to go when Covid restrictions made it untenable. They put together the Online Okyu-Ji to replace it, and yes it was disappointing and a big big letdown. But they had good attendance from all around the world, and maybe that's a little of the story in the anime. As they are playing on a darkened stage all by themselves, all these lights are blinking on and off around them, people are watching on their phone screens and laptops and on their desktops. They still had an audience, even if they couldn't see or hear them. So if you've gotten this far in this comment, here's a recommendation and a request. During that February 2021 Online Okyu-Ji, they wrote a special song for their fans, and they'd intended to premier it at the Budokan. Instead, they premiered it online. It is on their channel. But before you listen to it, go look in the comments for one by Weili Ma. He has documented Saiki's introduction (translated by t-shinji), and it will change the way you feel about the song and maybe about the band. "This is our present for you masters and princesses. Thrill is absolutely a great song, imho. Just because it’s older and they didn’t write it doesn’t take away from what an excellent straight ahead rock song it is. As we used to say - “It’s money!”. The video for "Unleash" is basically a tribute to Saiki's favorite anime, Sailor Moon. And, remember, their label, PONY CANYON, is a major contributor to the anime industry...with anime series like, K-ON!, which is the ultimate tribute to high school girl bands. "Unleash" was about their frustration about Covid and being unable to play gigs.

So it was good enough to put them on the map. Without that OMV the may have faded without even a flash in the pan.

Miku is slightly down during the performance of Thrill as she was recovering from the Flu. From what I read she had only been recovered for 3 days when they had this concert.

@@mtreactions Well if you watch the whole concert, it takes her a few songs to get her energy levels ramped up. by about 1/3rd of the way through it, she was at maybe 90% of what her energy was normally. She never did get to 100% for this performance, but she came very close. This is just one of a myriad of reasons us Maidiacs love these young Ladies. They will put in 110% effort for us. Me personally, I consider the 5 of them to be my adopted daughters, to join the other 12 or so young ladies I have informally adopted over the years. When you have 3 daughters, you suddenly find you have not just your daughters but their friends become your daughters as well. As far as I am concerned, and I'm sure many other older Maidiacs like myself feel this way, but these Ladies are my daughters. And there are quite a few who consider them to be their younger sisters, who need to be protected from the really weird people.

One of the things that strike you when you see them live is how tall MISA is (5'8"+) and how tiny Miku (5'...and short even in platform shoes) and Kanami (5'1"...Mincho means Shorty in Japanese) are. Akane is 5'6" and Saiki is 5'4" (but taller when you factor in the hair). 🙂

I don't know much about Japan, but I do know that normally Japanese women aren't generally very tall. That is actually interesting though to hear about Kanami being 5 ft nothing! They put out a big sound though!
