Oh, wow. I didn’t expect such an in-depth analysis. That was excellent and to the point. Thanks for this. I wouldn’t mind if you dissect more B-M songs like this. Really profund remarks, I like that, I like listening to people who obviously know what they are talking about. This review is a very fine example of it. As a trained Jazz-Guitarist, Band-Maid is one of the very few rock bands that really impress me on every aspect and on every level. This is truly a band of a decade. Keep on rocking 🤘

How awesome would it be to play in this band, playing these amazing songs, one after another, during a show. Even if you play them many times in a tour, it would never be boring.

There are many great bass players in Japan - but Misa is IMHO by far the most consistently melodic of all of them . I'm SO glad you took the time and effort to explore this aspect of the band - everyone knows that she's brilliant but I'm not sure many realise just how different she is and how big her input is in the musical composition side of things

That was the best commentary I have heard from you. Helped me like this song even more. Maybe don't be so reserved about your comments in the future. Thanks.

I call Misa "The Japanese Soul Sister". Her jazz, blues, funk sensibilities add so much to the band's music. She is incredible intuitive of what sounds best for each song. She is so important to the Band Maid sound. I have one word to describe how this group of five talented, hard working, humble, and driven young Japanese came together to form Band Maid. The word, serendipity.

That was a fabulous analysis. Those are the exact thoughts going through my mind when I listen to this song. Band-Maid weaves an intricate web with layers of sound with an exactness of what they are trying to achieve. Who else does that today?? I love your reactions, keep going!

You might be the first reactor I'm aware of who noticed this song borders on fusion. Nice. They do have a defined songwriting process and it begins with Kanami. She's the primary music composer. She was really excited about this song and it's very much her vision. Typically, Kanami creates a demo, usually quite fleshed out with the instruments and vocal melodies, then gets feedback and suggestions from the others. These days, the bass and drum parts are basically placeholder; she just lets Akane and Misa write their own parts because they're great. But if she wants something a particular way, they'll defer to her. They run their parts by each other to make sure it's all working. Miku (and now sometimes Saiki) will then write lyrics. Those two have input on vocal melodies and arrangements.They call Saiki the "control tower" because she takes a few steps back and assesses whether a song is working, needs more work, or it's done. It's a real team thing. Kanami purposely writes music that pushes their abilities. Misa has attributed her evolution as a player to the necessities of B-M's music. Akane has made similar remarks (she's also mentioned that Kanami would sometimes send her drum parts that can't be played by a human). Kanami has also been encouraging all of them to contribute even more to the music composition. Saiki started learning piano and guitar during the pandemic with that in mind.

Thank you for featuring Wonderland, which is what I wanted. I personally consider this song to be one of KANAMI's best compositions. Usually, when you listen to a piece of music, you have a feeling that you can roughly guess what path the composer took to reach the final form (whether or not it is really true), but I remember that when I first heard this piece, I had no idea what path to follow to achieve this form, and I was stunned. There are not a few songs that convinced me of KANAMI's genius, but I think this Woderland is one of the strongest of them.
@bandmaidfanATL9 ай бұрын
Oh, MISA is definitely a lead bassist, with the ability of course of filling the trad rhythm bass role, but you are correct, in most songs, she, Kanami and Saiki share the melody load on most songs to varying degrees. I think that is primarily due to Kanami being so generous to MISA and Akane (and now Miku's) virtuosity during the songwriting process. If you go back and listen to Endless Story, there is a part where Kanami is just backing with the Oooos on her PRS, but MISA is playing the lead melody, with Miku supplying the harmony. It must be so amazing and freeing for Kanami to be able to write a song and be able to know she can give any part to any of four players because they can all do it. It's like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Buddy Rich and Ella Fitzgerald were a band.

Nice reaction Mr Candy. I DO love this song... but then again, its BAND-MAID. I love all the songs... because they are all great!BTW: our beloved BAND-MAID has only been building much popularity in Japan very recently. In 2022 the biggest venue they had ever played was during their US tour (Philadelphia I think), and last year during their 10th Anniversary tour, many of the venues they played during the Japan leg of the tour were not really any bigger then most of the venues they played here during the US leg of the tour. The "final" tour stop at Yokohama Arena Nov. 26 was by far the biggest venue they had ever played. So this move to bigger halls and arenas is very new for them... and VERY EXCITING -po!

Man, at least to me, you absolutely NAILED this reaction! "Wonderland" has ALWAYS strongly hinted at jazz fusion played in a small, smoky nightclub. I would LOVE if they produced more tracks in this vein. Also, no B.S, that was the best description of The Maid's song composition and WHY we love it so much. Knocked it outta the city where the ballpark resides on this one, RC! Thanks so much! 🕊

Another music theory lesson showing us why we love The Maids. Thanks man. Preach as much as you want. That's why we love you. As an aside, what I always love, in their videos, is when Kanami drops her head and hunches over her guitar. It's an old 'Punk' pose from the late 70's. I grew up with that music, so it gets me every time. In your catching up, could you please make sure that you have 'The Dragon Cries' on your list. It's an important song that really messes with your sensibilities. One of my favorites. Cheers man.

And your analysis of this “cinematic” jazz fusion style the Maids do will bring more fans into the fold. Thank you 🙏

Wonderland is S-tier for me. Love your comments about "immersion": I never thought about it that way, but that's a lot of what pulls me in and keeps me listening. There are so many moving parts to Wonderland (and other Band-Maid songs), but they never ever let go of the groove.

This song is one of my masterpieces. You have perfectly expressed everything I was feeling in the song. "Brand New Road" , which is the fourth track on the "Brand New MAID" album, in which the MISA played jazz walkingbass. The entire piece has a jazz fusion feel to it. Unfortunately, there is no music video for this song and it has never been performed live, so it is only available as a soundtrack. It is fine if you don't get reacted to, so please check it out. I hope you like it.

Great reaction and analysis. One thing about Kanami though...Kanami composes all the music, including bass and drum parts. Granted, Misa and Akane add or subtract from what Kanami wrote, but nonetheless, it's all Kanami. She is also a task master, a workaholic and is constantly pushing herself as well as her bandmates and strethcing their boundries. She is a very special talent and quickly becoming a master songwriter. Keep.on rocking! 🤘
