Maher wrote this. A trumpet player wrote a song where the trumpets play a support role. Just one more proof that SP is all about the sound, and the movement, and how it works together to make magic.

You are my favourite Snarky Puppy's reactor and i've seen every single reaction in youtube hahaha I would enjoy a lot your reaction to "The Curtain" by them with the Metropole Orkest. I think it's one of the best musical pieces of our time. Thank you for your work!

Sleeper will always be a special song for me. I discovered Snarky Puppy when I was about 13, through the We Like it Here album. My two favourite songs on there were Lingus, and Sleeper. In November 2019, they were touring and were coming to my local city in the UK (Nottingham). I was 16 at the time, and it was my first ever gig. I went on my own, stood right at the front, no earplugs, and had the greatest experience of my life, seeing my idols play. The one who stood out the most was Shaun. Shaun had such an energy, as a person and as a virtuosic musician. You could tell he loved to entertain, and always poured his heart and soul into everything he did. At the end of the concert, they played Sleeper. Seeing Shaun sing his heart out, physically and metaphorically, through that instrument brought me to tears. It taught me of the profound way that music can connect to our soul. I was lucky enough to see him perform once again in 2021, this time with his own trio. That concert was equally special, my favourite part being his rendition of "Lovely Day", also using his signature talkbox. I feel so incredibly privileged to have witnessed a true great perform. No musician has impacted me on the profound level that Shaun has. He will forever be an inspiration to me, in my music, and in my life. Rest in peace Shaun. May your legacy last forever.

Such a shame. We lost an incredible musician.

It's called a Talk Box, yes. It's basically a speaker with a tube attached to it... you can run a guitar, synth, etc. through it, and it sends the sound up through the tube into your mouth. You shape the sound that way, and the microphone picks it up. Kind of complicated, but when it was invented, that was the only way to do something like that.
@bobcieslinski2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff! I thought it was called a talk box. Like I said Leter Franklin made that famous way back. I saw him in concert and he used it.
@CellarPhantom2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for describing how it works! I never understood the sound went into his mouth, bounces around and out to the mic, but that makes so much sense.
