Hey everyone! Glad to see you found this tutorial! Hope you're enjoying it! (Or already enjoyed it). Would love to hear which of the three models is your favorite! Also, I'm really striving to make content that you'll enjoy watching, so I've created a mini-poll over on Patreon to see what games you're all interested in seeing painting tutorials for. Could you please take a short minute and head on over to my Patreon (even if you have no interest in becoming a Patron) and participate in that poll? It'd really help me out. Thanks! I just started painting my first mini ever, and your video is an awesome lifesaver! You do use some special and wonderful products I don't have, and can't have, but in overall it's the best!

I like using a bronze for underneath the gold bits, gives them a bit more shimmer.

Really nice job! I recently used Blood Rage as a guinea pig for testing Army Painter Speedpaints to see how quickly I could get it done, but I'm a little disappointed I didn't give these models the time they deserved. Out of curiosity how long did it take you to finish the 4 clans? To answer your question, my favorite is the clan leader - using that hot orange for the hair really makes it pop! Love it!

oh maaaan... Great job bro. I just bought the game and I would loooove to paint the figures the way you do but... I never did any painting in my life XD I'm so afraid I'd mess it all up if I try this -_- Basic painting techniques, mixing colors, brush touch.... I know nothing of these lol
@BandaInku3 жыл бұрын
Dude you can do it! You'll be surprised how quickly you'll improve if you just try. And the nice thing about mini painting is if you paint something and don't like how it turned out or you simply want to paint it again, it's easy to simply either strip the paint off the model and paint it again, or just paint over top of the current paint job. You can always get some cheap models (like Bones models) and practice on those for a bit until you're comfortable, and then paint the blood rage minis

Hi, I just got into mini painting and Blood Rage will be my first project, so thank you for the whole series! I was just wondering if it's OK to use spray cans for priming, and if it's possible prime in black with some white from above and then follow the rest of the guide
@BandaInku2 жыл бұрын
Yeah priming with spray cans works great. And the zenith prime will work just fine for these minis. No issues there. You can really prime them however you want

And welcome to the world of mini painting!

Thank you so much for your answer! I don't wanna come off as greedy, but I actually have another question 😅 I've checked out the color list on amazon and it's...a bit out of my budget. Do you think I could get just some of the colors and then try to make them lighter or darker with white/black ink?(or paint). Which ones would you consider essential? Thanks again for the tutorials, they're great!
@BandaInku2 жыл бұрын
No worries! Glad to help. You definitely don’t need to get all the colors. I just put together those lists for those that want to know what I used. I’d start out with the main colors that are hard to mix like reds, yellows, skin tone, etc. then do some mixing to get the other tones you want. It’s not as simple as adding just black or white to the colors. That’ll darken it lighten them for sure but it’ll also dull them down. Check out some paint color mixing videos and learn how to mix colors. It’ll make a huge difference and will allow you to get more mileage out of whatever paints you end up getting. And it could help you decide which ones to get and which ones you can mix
@BandaInku2 жыл бұрын
This channel has some good examples. They use thicker art acrylics but they mix the same as mini paints. kzbin.info/door/QVw7l9LuDp9NLu11214-6Q Also, you don’t really need all the extra mediums I used. I’ve learned over the years that you can pretty much just use water to thin your paints and it’ll work just fine. Especially if you use a wet palette. (Which I highly recommend a red grass games wet palette. It’s been my absolute favorite and keeps mini paints super nice) Another thing to note is especially in the beginning, if you are on a tighter budget and are having a harder time mixing a color you need, you can always pick up some cheap craft paints (like Applebarrel) for like $0.50 a bottle sometimes. They’re not quite as pigment heavy as the mini painting specific ones but they work just fine (and you get a TON of paint). I used quite a few of those in the beginning when my paint collection was rather small.

Hey Bandu, just came across your vids. I'm relatively new to painting and your tutorials have given me real inspiration to get started on my BR minis. Thanks.

I was wondering if you use a wet pallete?
@BandaInku6 жыл бұрын
Sure do! I'm currently using this one - amzn.to/2AculH4 - with Reynolds Parchment Paper as the paper (The paper that comes with the palette is made for heavy bodied acrylics which are different than the paints we use for mini painting). Soon I'm wanting to try out the Everlasting Wet Palette that just came out to see how it compares. But this option works pretty well and is rather inexpensive :D

Thanks mate. I picked one up a few weeks ago and I'm still getting to grips with it - especially ratios etc. but it's a very helpful tool.

Hey man, I posted a message on your patreon site, but I dont really know how often do you check it, so I´ll give it a go here too. Im trying to figure out what kind of blue tones should I use from the citadel/vallejo range colors I have ( I've been making my way with some equivalent colors and blending trough the skin process ). I did post a photo in case you wanna check it and give me some advice. May be a stupid question but I'm pretty new in this hobby and I find myself pretty lost sometimes. Cheers!

Sweet man! I try to check both places pretty regularly so either place is good :) I do give preference to Patreon as far as response times, but I try to keep up with comments on here pretty regularly as well. That's definitely not a stupid question man. :) This hobby is all about learning as you go and I'm totally happy to help out wherever I can!

Hey, can you explain how you painted the logos on the ships?

From what I recall I simply looked at the clan’s symbol on their clan card and free handed it as carefully as I could.

Hey, I got my copy of blood rage a couple days ago and don't think the bare minis stand out. I am not a painter and somewhat on a budget atm. Do you think I could get away with just doing a prime, wash, dry brushing and varnishing all in mostly one color? Or maybe just a grey primer, a couple washes and some white drybrush. I really just want to bring out some of the details on these awesome minis!
@BandaInku6 жыл бұрын
Yeah the minis by themselves tend to blend together - once you get even a bit of paint on them all those amazing details really stand out. You could do just like you said! In fact, here is a great example of exactly what that would look if you were to use citadel shades to do so. --- boardgamegeek.com/image/3687937/blood-rage The guy who did it left a comment on the photo with how he did it: "I used white primer from Army Painter for priming and then I just used colored washes several times. I have used Citadel shades: - yellow: Casandora Yellow - red: Reikland Fleshshade - blue: Drakenhof Nightshade - brown: Agrax Earthshade After that just some dry brushing with white (and a bit blue and red) and matte varnish."

Do you thin all of your paints or should we just use common sense such as thin our layers and etc? Also asking because you use some ink and Vallejo air paint which is slightly different and I've never used that stuff before.
@BandaInku5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thin most my paints. Shades and Inks are the only ones I don't always thin depending on how strong of an effect I'm wanting. The model air ones I still thin a little bit for smooth application though it's less than with 'normal' paints. Also when drybrushing or overbrushing I use un-thinned paint.

Hi really like your vids. I am trying to replicate what you did at the moment. Will there ever be vids on how to do the ships and/or the expansions?

Hey man. Glad you're liking the vids! Eventually I'd like to do the expansions but I don't have any of them at the moment. The ships however will not have a video since I neglected to record painting those. I did however make a PDF painting guide for them over on Patreon with all the colors and steps I did to paint them. Hey, I'm completely new to painting miniatures, and offered to paint these for my brother who has the game. I'm having a really hard time distinguishing which pieces go to which clans, so cannot start the painting process yet. I notice the bottom of the pieces all have numbers on them, is there a guide somewhere that I can find to help with this? I haven't been able to come up with anything online. Maybe it's included in the gaming rules that he did not give me? (I only have the pieces.) I SUPER appreciate any help anyone can give me!
@BandaInku6 жыл бұрын
Renee Mozzetti welcome to the mini painting world! Assuming you just have the base game pieces you should have 4 clans with 10 characters each - 1 clan leader, 8 warriors (4 of each scuplt) and 1 ship - and then 8 monsters. At 0:18 you'll find a picture of the 3 models that form the Wolf clan. At the beginning of the Bear clan video there's a pic of the 3 models that form the bear clan, and then at the end of it there's a pic of the serpent clan models, then the raven clan are the guys with the Spears and big shields on their backs. If you need pictures just look up "Blood Rage ____ clan" (Wolf, Bear, Serpent, Raven) or go to the Blood Rage Kickstarter page - they've got pics there.
