Banded Rainbowfish Melanotaenia trifasciata In a small creek Daintree National Park Wild Biotope.

While on my travels in the Daintree Rainforest I came across a few deep depressions in a otherwise shallow creek, the Rainbowfish in here were a sight to be seen the Banded or Regal Rainbowfish was quite large in these deeper spots so they must have had some age to them and what beautiful specimens they were, almost the size of an average size hand as you will see by comparison to the Jungle Perch (Kuhlia rupestris) they happily swam together, unlike other types of rainbows I filmed elsewhere they seemed to be more solitary or in smaller spread out groups rather then in larger close larger groups, this also made them a bit harder to film, I won't give out exact locations to these fish as they also share the same habitat as the Daintree Rainbowfish (Cairnsichthys bitaeniatus) that seem to congregate in the shallower waters of the creek around leaf litter and tree roots.
You will see in this film these rainbows seem to change colour from yellow orange to tones of blue depending on how the light hits them, truly a beautiful large rainbow.

You know, I went to the Daintree a couple times looking for wildlife, and I never thought to look for rainbowfish in the creeks and streams. But, then again, I was too scared to get near the water after seeing huge crocs in the Daintree River and Cooper's Creek. 😅 The only fish I ended up seeing were mudskippers. That said, great footage! Thank you so much for sharing!

Yes those tree roots are full of fish, I saw a couple of small Eel tailed catfish in there to, but they didn't venture out much and it was pretty deep and dark so hard to get good film of.

My home region! Another aweseome video! The water is insanely clear! These rainbows are insanely good jumpers too! I remember when i was a kid we kept a couple in a 4ft tank and we could hear them jumping at the glass lid for a few days before they settled in.

A very beautiful place, I really like such places with tropical vegetation, although I have never been to them. Thanks to you, I can be in these places and admire the nature of these places. At 2:21 onwards, a small fish swam at the very bottom, its name is interesting, it is similar to the River Goby (this is a local species of Eastern Europe).

Climbing Pandanus (Freycinetia scandens) not an aquatic just hanging in the water off the surrounding trees.
