Sensational. Makes all kind of sense. Unfortunately I now have a major project in front of me. The LR tips video was also really good.

I see merit to this but what happens in the event of a crash, a new computer, etc? Can you migrate this system over to a new machine or hard drive?

Hi. Thanks for this video. I wonder what if I will implement your method and I will upload images from 2 years before the current date and they will spread all over different folders in Lightroom because they are date sorted? Do I have to search them date by date and give them keywords or there is some filter when I can display only added images? Thank you

I would suggest people rename their files to something meaningful. Some programs like LR can also look at file names when you are dong keyword search as well, or even if you want to find files that contain a certain phrase or word. On another note, storing by date outside of LR doesn't make a lot of sense. Personally I've adopted the workflow of naming files with descriptive names and number sequence (1-999 for a particular shoot) so that I can find them either in LR or outside of it. If you use a date-based structure, it does require you to remember when something was, whereas if you modify this and perhaps store things by subject or location (or add that to your folder structure, perhaps) you might be able to find files faster as well if you are outside of LR. Personally I feel that a good file naming system and folder structure should work both INSIDE and OUTSIDE of lightroom to be effective. What happens if your LR catalog gets corrupt or crashes or you otherwise lose the LRCAT file? Now all of your hard work organizing is lost if you don't have a backup (which is also strongly recommended practice). At least with a meaningful descriptive folder structure you can still navigate your photos without the need of a digital asset manager like LR.

I much prefer Photo Mechanic for titles, metadata, rating, etc. Blazingly fast. Easy UI.
