Bandit 600n [Problems] Backfiring, Not idling and RPM Stutter!

Hi Guys, It has been awhile so im sorry for that. My bike has been having problems before and after having my carbs cleaned. Starting with my idling then onto my RPM's. Lets prey my Bandit 600 makes it to full recovery before winter, so i can get a couple last minute rides in while the weather is holding out.

I've an SV650 that I bought nearly 24 years ago. I've always put redex in it every now and then, maybe every 3 or 4 months I give it a good shot of the stuff. The bike has never had any fueling problems and the carbs have never been cleaned because of that. I usually give it an extra shot of redex before laying it up for winter, in case it's a miserable wet winter and I don't get a chance to get out on it. Redex really is good stuff for keeping the fuel system clean and trouble free.

Got my bike just over a month ago, was not right but had been sat in garage for about 12 month. Took carbs off and balanced them myself, cleaned the injectors, checked floats and one spring needed adjusting, runs so much better. Do all the work on bike myself apart from tyres of course.

Had similar faults,in my case it was just loose connection s on low tension side of coils,(the small wires to coils

ii left mine sitting for one year, (before that, over 27.000 km smooth without problems, I recon that) did a FULL check after ( carb cleaning, new carb seals, new oil, new air filter, coils tested, sparks cleaned, nel fuel tap, contact cleaning) ..in fact I did all of this twice...and now all I got is a bad idle for a few seconds, ..., not mentioning how tedious is working on it...more pipes and wires than kids in Africa, the occasional bolt that requires the security hexagon socket, and how everything is crammed up in an almost psychotic way just to save 0.dick inches on the overall size of the bike (inspecting or changing a part that dhould be a 10 min job, becomes a 30 min just to get to it)...I've definitely learn what I don't want on my next bike.

Backfires are indicative of a rich environment (too much gas). The pilot jets should be 1 and 5/8 turns out and adjust accordingly. Righty less gas. Lefty more gas. Also adjust idle screw. Confirm proper spark and air filter. Look for any leaks. Use fuel without ethenol if possible. Don't let fuel sit for more than month. Inspect tank for any rust/ debris to clog carb.

sounds like you need to turn the A/F mixture screws back to stock .. 2 turns out .. then balance the carbs and set idle to around 13-1400

Thank you for the advice bro it’s all been sorted… runs absolutely mint! It was the carbs that need to be rebuilt because of a massive build up of corrosion on the components inside

My first instinct would be the carbs always the main problem with bad running. Clean em balance em check spark check airbox check fuel lines always the same sorta process with older bikes.😊

@@itsgeorgemoto my 1999 bandit n has this problem, was out on it today opened her up was doing about 100 then she just srarted bogging out as if it was running out of petrol, very under powered in wont rev past 6000 revs under load but idles and revs fine when not riding it.. did you change your coils?

@@jackdean6558 mate all the issues in the end was my carbs they needed replacing. The mechanic kept the old ones to show me how corroded they were. Because it hasn’t been used properly in years. Try that first then check valve clearance then spark plugs or maybe anything rubber that could have worn down over time. Air box too?

Your carbs need repalcinf? How many miles on the bike? I'm having similar issues with idle, but I hope I don't have to completely replace them.

​@@jackdean6558sounds like a bad fuel pump or maybe its only the fuel filter.. change the fuel filter and check fuel pump pressure...

Sou ds like fuel, check breather hose , open fuel cap and run see if any differance, is there a fuel tap or fuel filter to check , allways start with the simple first , good luck

I had a Chinese 125 that had similar symptoms except I couldn't ride it because it would die. the carb was fine and the spark plug was fine. couldn't find out what was wrong with it so sold it. A day before the new owner was coming to pick it up my dad took one last look at it and realised that the vacuum hose had a hidden cut in it. we put a new hose in and it had more power then when I brought it. was a shame because I really liked that bike

Sometimes it’s something you just wouldn’t expect it to be and if anything it makes you want to keep the bike more when you finally solve the problem even if it has given you a hard time. What you got now?

Mines doing the exact same thing mate, won't idle and coughs, stall bellow 1.5 thousand rpm, once up in the High rpm its fine

Bro mine is sorted now took it to a different Mechanic and got the job done properly it was the cards and the rubbers where so old they turned to plastic they were that hard. Just a thought if you are having same issues might be that hope it gets sorted mate

Mine idles at 3k apprently I need new gaskets and carbs need to be ultrasonic cleaned 300quid in total

@@itsgeorgemoto My motorbike's been off the road for 8 months. I started it. When I started it, the fuel valve was Pri. The engine barely started. After a while, it continues to run unstable in neutral gear at a thousand revolutions and sometimes stalls, but it is still driven. Then I start riding it. There is no problem around 3 4 thousand revolutions, the engine flows, but when the engine slows down in 1st gear, it stalls directly. I start it again with choke and then it stalls again. I can't find what the problem is.

Dear friend, it sounds like your bike is running not an all (four) cylinders. Check spark plugs, carbs, ignition (coil) system. Stay safe and remember, always the rubber side down.

How come lots of 600 bandits have problems with carbs,mines the same,ever since I got it I can't get the carbs right, I found out the other day it's got the wrong carbs fitted.

I had a right problem trying to find the right mechanic for the job! The guy I found took the carbs completely apart and rebuilt it with new parts because the other parts corroded and the rubber’s hardened. Hope this helps man. Also I’ve been advised in winter when you don’t use the bike a lot, to drain the carb bowls of fuel so I don’t have the same issue

I've got the same issues with my bandit 1200 with the revs struggling past 5-7k so was it just a quick spark plug change to fix your issue

We thought it was but I recently took it back again for the owner to have ago at fixing it because he has a bandit 1200 he said it sounds like the carbs but I’ve already had the carbs cleaned from them he said he’ll do it this time. He cleaned them out again and put it all back together and said it’s working now, with no explanation of why it wasn’t haha After 4 attempts of getting it fixed at the mechanics I’ve learnt it could be… • Fuel pipe • Carbs • Spark plug • spark plug caps • Idle screw But deep down I knew it had to be the carbs

It sounds like you've got a rubber stopper missing off a carb...probably when balanced it's not been put on..

Men............. adjust the carburetors and you will be fine! xD 100% SURE! I had the same problem.. and i cleaned and adjusted. 5**** Is not a Spark problem... because is getting fire! So... only carburetors... And pops is normal.. it's a BANDIT!

@@itsgeorgemoto believe me... it's easy to fix... low RPM means Carburetors dirt or not in lvl. I purchased mine a few months ago and was with the same problem. Always LOW RPM and turning off... I go to revision and changed plugs, oils... everything 2x. And nothing.... xD Then i figure out... what was..

If it's pooping it gets too much fuel. Balance carbs, valve adjustment and learnt to work on bike yourself.
