I am totally UNIMPRESSED! I have a 1995 65 that would run circles around this thing. Mine is driven by a 32 hp Wisconsin V4. My feed is slower and is not automatic. Instead of overfeeding and causing rpm to drop precipitously, mine crunches steadily along and requires only occasional manual stopping of feed to let engine recover rpm. Either this chipper has higher disk speed and therefore much lower torque to spin disk, or the engine is nowhere near 30 hp. Also, my throat width is near 12” but this looks to be under 9”. Finally, mine doesn’t have to be tickled into accepting each piece., Oh! One other thing. The Bandit 65 is NOT a finely tuned machine. It is a rugged brute that, at least in correct form, beats lesser devices in simplicity and unfailingly durability.

Hmmm! Thinking some more. The feed rate seems near double that of my 65. I suppose this chip has same hydraulic pump and motor as mine but as noted above, the disk is running too fast. The hydraulic pump is on the disk shaft, so that too is running too fast and thus overfeeding. The silly engine on this is a V2. Mine is an old V4. I think mine is governed at 2900 rpm but this sounds like my V4 so it is running at near twice speed. Seems pretty clear this needs a smaller engine pulley and a bigger disk pulley. I would try dropping the disk speed by at least 50%. And maybe find an engine with a flatter torque curve. Someone at Bandit should have run some numbers when they went to these high rpm engines; instead they lost their groove.

@@anthonyholmes71 i think mine too was once a rental unit. One huge advantage of the 65 is that, although it weighs about 2,000 pounds, you can still tow it with an ATV. It’s tricky but any bigger chip would need a truck or tractor. With an ATV, especially with a front hitch, you can get this real close to the brush pile.
