Solid performance of a classic piece. I remember the band spending hours rehearsing this when I was in Mississippi Lion's All State Band. It was a challenging piece for us high schoolers, but we conquered it. :-)

I don’t think it’s a tempo problem as much as the fact that shosty wrote specific tempos in the original score but conductors like to disregard them a lot.

DSCH 5th requires the instrumentation of a full symphony orchestra. A wind band does not have sufficient forces to make the piece work.

Just before something was originally organized doesn't mean it cant be arranged to fit other criteria

The wind band has enough "forces", especially brass, to make this transcription work, but when you have to write for clarinets in place of violins, for example, then it lacks the clarity the composer intended...

Try telling that to Shostakovich, who arranged the piece for two pianos.
