Lemmy played at this rock club where I worked for a while. He overheard me singing Ramones - "The KKK Took My Baby Away", and stopped me to chat. That's where I learned he was a fan of the Ramones, which was pretty awesome. No-nonsense guy, but always quick with an insight. When I learned he hated the club owner for his shady practices, I made a joke about the guy: Me: "You know what the hairdresser said to (the owner) when asked what he thought about the jerk's Kenny G hair?" Lemmy: "Nah, what?" Me, imitating Lemmy singing: "God was never on your side..." Guy chased me off the band bus with a laugh.

@@niallbyrne2680 Lemmy was THE boomer of rock and roll. I can absolutely see him not liking the doom and gloom of Iommi's riffs-it just doesn't fit him; but Ozzy's solo stuff is much more energetic, and so he would enjoy it more. You gotta look at what he listened to while growing up: the very beginnings of rock; and he said that the best stuff you'll ever hear is the first things you hear (which I disagree, but it says a lot about his music tastes). Him not liking the godfathers of heavy metal doesn't make him any less of an important figure; hell, Motörhead was never a metal band, anyways, and I'll fight you on this (they had SOME heavy metal elements and came close on a couple of records, but that's IT)

JRR (Rosalita to his inner circle at Oxford) was on the money by the third book though. Prof wrote 5 bangers (if we count LotR as 3) and some great linguistic research on anglo-saxons too. I dreamed as a teen of riding through Beleriand with indeterminate Noldor, can't say I ever wanted to stagger across Arakis in a gimp suit drinking my own piss. Though I did have a few keg parties growing up and went to a few similar clubs. Everyone larped to D&D in the 80s, shouting Shai Halud to police while blasting Toto from your ghetto blaster would have you arrested, and rightly so.

It didn't matter what Lemmy's opinion of others was, such was the respect he was held in they took it with good grace and, as far as I know, nobody ever had a bad word to say about him. Dave Brock sacked him from Hawkwind in 1975 and, unlike others similarly "let go," regretted it ever after, still remained best friends with him right up to his untimely passing and usually posts a memoriam on the Facebook Hawkwind group page on the anniversary of his death. The old bands all hated file sharing while bands that were popular at its entry time endorsed it. It's almost like they knew it would turn royalty cheques into free advertisements. Bands that came up after downloading (the last 20 years) all had to deal with greedy club owners offering us non-paying gigs on the basis we sell our own tickets and fork the money over (don't just play for free exposure also work for free). It opened a greater floodgate for older club owners to exploit the up-and-coming, many of whom have parents yelling at us to get real jobs.

It also bears a mention that he never considered Randy Rhoads anything above a good guitar player. He did certainly respect Rhoads and his skills (except for when playing Asteroids, apparently he was terrible at the game) but also felt that his legend status grew far out of proportions after he passed away.

He was pretty harsh maybe overly, but I think his personality is just like that, it is hard to dislike him, and he always adds some balance to the criticism. Some of his remarks make no sense like The Darkness, they rock, but yeah he crosses those fine lines and makes you want to depart from his notions, but being a really competent musician himself, you can't. Anyways Rest in Peace Lemmy, Legendary Creatures have unique abilities, like himself. I am a fan of all mentioned bands at varying levels of interest.

@@Crankbugg I guess I could say it is the band I am least knowledgeable about.
