Great Video Alex. I just took your 3D cutting board class in Sacramento. Changed my Laguna 14 ceramic guides to the Carter rollers and was the first person that was able to machine the original upper and lower guide holders from 19mm to 20mm to accept Carters. It worked great and thankyou from the fantastic class!

I have this bandsaw, which is a fine tool, except for the lousy ceramic guides. I have just replaced them with the rather costly Carter roller bearing guides. You will eventually want to do that, too.

After seeing this, I’m reminded exactly why I upgraded to Carter guides a few years ago. My bandsaw is MUCH better for having made that investment. I use 123 blocks along with the FAST and it’s perfect.

Thanks for the education. Question. When using a blade that’s 3/8 , 1/4 Where should the blade be placed on the tire/wheels? I know that they should be placed where the tire meets the gullet But in Laguna’s video they only setup a 3/4 blade.

I may be missing something, but shouldn't you make sure the table is square to the blade before squaring the fence to the blade? If you don't do that, then moving the fence on the unsquared table will move it out of square, right? I really enjoyed the video as I'm strongly considering the Laguna 18 BX. Thanks for the valuable lesson!
@vikingcove Жыл бұрын
The fence will remain parallel to the blade as you move it side to side on the table.

Thank you for all the information. But I have a WEN 10 inch band saw, is the set up pretty much the same for most?

Yes, setup is pretty much the same for all saws.

When u place the FAST on the blade, is there room in the slot with the magnet so the outer tooth is not resting on the magnet? Otherwise the FAST will be pitched outward.

Hi Alex. You are the master of the bandsaw. I didn’t catch where you track the blade on the wheel. I think once you said that the center of the blade should be slightly forward (toward the door) of the center of the wheel. Is that correct? Thanks for sharing your expertise.
@bandsawlife26602 жыл бұрын
Deepest part of the gullet should always be in the center of the wheel.

@@bandsawlife2660 I have the Laguna 14BX. Using a 3/4" blade, if i try and get the deepest part of the gullet in the centre of the wheel the back of the blade would hit the inside of the vertical column (the red bit). would i need to adjust the tracking? first time bandsaw user!
@bandsawlife26602 жыл бұрын
@@daveychainsaw5685 the largest blade you can use on This saw and get the deepest part of the gullet in the center is 5/8”. You can run a 3/4” blade but don’t go past the back edge of the wheel

@@bandsawlife2660 Thank you Alex, i really appreciate you taking the time to advise me. Do you mean don't go beyond the back of the wheel or the tyre? Wheel i presume? I've watched lots of your helpful videos whilst shopping for my first bandsaw. Just been going through the setup and discovered the fence wasn't quite square to the table. Luckily i noticed two grub screws on the back of the fence, one high one low and that enabled me to get it square.

Loosen the six trunnion bolts underneath the table, and there should be enough slop to allow movement

Great video Alex, thank you. I'm about to get my first bandsaw and am leaning towards the 14BX. One question, when you're ripping that board at the end, is that a normal amount of noise from a bandsaw, it sounded like it was struggling or is that due to ceramic guides? Trying to decide if i should look at a saw that tension a 25mm blade instead for deep rips.
@RandyLittleStudios Жыл бұрын
That seems like a lot of work for a blade change, (ie removing the table) is that normal for all floor bandsaws?

A little bit of conflicting information here. Laguna has made setup videos where they instruct you to make the ceramic guides touch the blade. Is there any reason Laguna would suggest to make the ceramic guides touch the blade, but you suggest to not touch the blade? I understand the reasoning behind not touching the blade, just trying to figure out why Laguna would tell you to set up the guides to make contact with the blade.
@bandsawlife26603 ай бұрын
Because Laguna makes their own blades, a carbide blade, which has no set in the teeth, so friction isn’t going to take the set out. They also made a bmetal blade which has different metal for the teeth and those guides won’t take the set out so that’s why Laguna says you can actually touch the blade if you’re using their blade. I might also add their specialty blades have a special price.

Alex, I have this saw and absolutely hate those guides. The ceramic guides move a little in the housing so it is a real be-atch to keep adjusted. May have to purchase a set of Carter guides for this thing. On another note, I also have a Grizzly G0513X2BF which will accept a 1 inch blade. I have not put a 1 inch blade on it yet, I have a 3/4 inch Woodslicer. I use your method to set the saw up. I set my 3/4 inch blade to the deepest part of the gullets are in the center of the wheel and when I do, the back of the blade is right to the back edge of the wheel. If I use a 1 inch blade and set it up as you suggest, the back of the blade will be hanging over the back edge of the wheel. Is that okay and if not, how would you set a 1 inch blade on this saw? Thank you.
