Knightfall was the best showcase off his intelligence (which makes it the best debut of a super villain ever). During that time Batman was grieving Supermans death (the one in Death of Superman). Bane knew that Batman was not in the best place emotionally so it was a perfect time for him to form his plan, which was releasing all of the villains out and there was no way for Batman to rest for days. So Batman was depressed, sad, exhausted and hurt. So Batman for once would've left his guard down, so perfect time for Bane to just waltz into Wayne manor and break Batman's back.

Which is why I never had any respect for Bane. His grand plan to beat the bat was to let someone else do everything, and then take the credit because he got the final blow. It's like Bane opening a jar of pickles because the Joker loosened the lid.

At one point in the comics Bane actually helps Batman out while they waited on DNA results. Bane was trying to find his father. Thomas Wayne was in the area that Bane’s Mom was. They were not brothers but it was interesting.

In the non-canon offshoot after that, Bane becomes friends with Bruce, and they end up with an actual working relationship. In-canon, Bane actually becomes a friend of his and helps him a few times, while being more the anti-hero character, until they decided he was a better villain than hero. It's why Bane became Batman at one point, among other cool things he did in the comics. He even became a member of Sinister Six and tried to turn them good (or at least less evil). He's a VERY cool and (mostly) well-written character. I've loved him since I was a kid. Then again, Batman had so many well-written villains, arguably better than 99% of DC's other fare. Luthor is arguably competition, though. He's just under-utilized, imho.

I just would like to add that there is a Bane soundalike that works for a furniture store taking phone calls. A guy was so tired after having moved to a new appartment, and had bought furniture to the new place and was expecting it. It never showed up on time. He called the store multiple times with hours in between, feeling more and more tired and groggy inbetween. Each time being told it would be there soon. The last time he called, a guy with the perfect Bane voice answered and said: "Oh, you matress delivery! My hopes to have you sleeping soundly soon!" And him hearing Bane say that sentence just made his day tolerable.

No, in the year-long story that introduced him, Bane was defeated when, after Bruce's back was broken, the guy chose to be his replacement Batman, Jean-Paul Valley (sometimes known as Azrael), beat Bane by literally beating him down. He went to prison for months and realized that, though not addicted to Venom, he was still overly dependent on it, and stopped using it, rebuilding his muscle mass the old fashioned way. Other writers forget that sometimes.

So the canon order is Tim drake Barbara Gordon Bane Bruce Wayne, (bane and Bruce are both on roughly the same level) Superman Edward nigma The various drs or Gotham, each having their own specialities, ivy in biology, freeze in cryogenics and diseases, crane in psychology and the affects of fear, etc. Harley Quinn, (after being dipped) she definitely went more crazy after getting dipped developing what is essentially a spilt personality, where either side is smarter depending on the situation, Harley is smarter in tactics and being a psycho, and Harleen is the psychologist side. Luther fits in the same or slightly higher than the other Gotham doctors. And the list keeps going, but it’s descending from there, going through the meatheads and other masterminds,

@@klo1679 Of the...- 3? I think it was three- people to try to gain the Anti-Life Equation, I believe Lex was the only one to do so. As in he is literally smarter than a 'God' (Darkseid). Luthor solved it from various interactions the League had with Darkseid, and deduced the remaining portions from scratch. Pretty sure that makes him the smartest. Though your list makes some very valid reasons. Fries and Isley were super geniuses by their own rights, as was Quinzel.

So in the comics recently, Joker did to Bruce what you suggest Bane do; Take all Batman's money, and he spent almost all of it, made it so that he can't use company funds either, had to hide away the Batcave. Venom comic theory: Venom isn't a steroid; it's actually the "waters" from a Lazarus Pit. Think about the effects and side effects: increased physique; rapid cellular regeneration; temporary increase in physical resilience after exposure; temporary insanity after exposure to excessive amounts; might cause chemical dependency; etc. Ras Al-Ghul simply submerges himself in a pit, while Bane actually injects himself with it. Hence the need to use just the right amount. Edit: Also both liquids are typical similar in color. Plus, as far as I know, nobody else but Bane knows Venoms recipe and therefore it could or could not be what he claims. That and he knows that if Batman found out the truth, the Caped Crusader might take steps to prevent access. Either that or Venom is a synthetic emulation of the "natural" substance of the Lazarus Pits. He is a genius after all...

Yes, Venom and Lazarus being connected makes perfect sense. I don't like it being 100% lazarus but a synthesised, lesser version being a component of the Venom formula seems to make a lot of sense.

It makes perfect sense, and also makes the other argument for why only bane can use venom correctly make more sense, the Lazarus waters only work for specific people in some specific universes, in the dcau, it has only healed ghuls, Batman, Jason, and joker, with hints to other bat family members surviving a dunk. But it’s also stated in under the red hood, that reviving a dead body has never worked for the ghuls, Jason being the first, albeit mind broken from dying. So it also solidifies the theory on why only bane can stand venom, both because he is the only one who knows exactly what it is, and if it were Lazarus, then it would only work on the strongest willed.

@@klo1679 It would similarly explain why the Pena Duro Venom experiments failed in all cases but one (at time of Knightfall). Bane is the only known survivor of those experiments, as any others that were tested did not have the physical or mental fortitude to survive the supposedly horrific process of assimilating the drug. Bane, being the monstrosity of mental clarity and physical condition he was, managed to not only survive, but culture it within his system. The writing for him in Knightfall is very specific about how unique Bane was in that he was able to not only survive, but escape, too. Very keen observations, though. It makes sense.

I believe Bane calling himself Batman comes from the R.I.P. storyline where Batman is dead (or at least as dead as a title character can be in a comic book) and Gotham is going to hell. Bane and two other members of the Secret Six go to help...in their way. When they foil a kidnapping all Bane asks is for the victims to tell anyone who will listen the Batman saved the day, trying to re-instill the fear of the Bat in the city.

Both badly written stories and poor adaptations focus on that one aspect of him and never do the character justice. Only in the animated series do they focus on the intelligence and have him make traps. But that's mostly due to not wanting to depict violence on a children's television show. The only time I've ever seen them attempt to depict the brains and the brawn was in the Dark Knight Rises. But their he suffers from the grounded approach and the twist that hands off the planning to a third party.

He’s still quite smart in the show, however he is severely overshadowed by the massive personalities surrounding him. He has the most patience out of anyone in the cast, taking something like 20 episodes before he finally snaps.

SOMEHOW, on top of keeping himself fit enough to be constantly seen as a paragon of humanity's physical and mental condition, solving all the crimes, staying informed on what everybody does, running one of the biggest companies (?), building, launching and maintaining the Watchtower (covertly?), Batman dons the mask of Bruce Wayne often enough in social events to be seen as an aloof rich playboy philanthropist. It's just not the aspect the shows or comics give any focus. Only glimpses and hints since no one really cares about Bruce Wayne. The only thing that matters is Batman. That said... Batman makes no sense. The man should logically be unable to do HALF of those things at best and should be unable to do 10% of it if we count the time he'd actually need to recover from each major encounter and/or get incapacitated by the common cold. Even with a closed circle of friends helping him it seems far fetched. Japanese black companies are known to run their employees into the ground (as in 6 feet under rather literally) through overwork and you're telling me a single man can accomplish more in less time on his own without anyone really being the wiser? I love batman and am very good at suspending my disbelief to enjoy a good story. But I also like overthinking things on the side. XD

That said, you can't keep track of all events surrounding hundreds of people at once and manage all the things he manages as both Batman AND bruce Wayne and on top of that be physically involved with events as they happen without superpowers. Which is exactly what we are lead to believe Batman does on the daily. If it was anywhere NEAR possible for one human to do it, no matter how close to perfection he'd have to be, I can guarantee that companies with greater numbers of people, flawed though they may be, would accomplish more than they currently do. Cyberpunk 2077 would have released before its original scheduled date in more then complete form for one thing. :p Listen, I'm not bashing the bat here. Suspension of disbelief is a required trait to enjoy any story involving supernatural traits or things involving the unknown. It's important to be able to keep note of fiction as being fiction though.

Of course he can keep track of everything and do whatever he wants in between, not to mention he has psychics like Martian Manhunter and geniuses like Mr Terrific who also monitor the planet daily sharing their intel. And since you brought up the Flash, both he and Superman report to the League, and by extension Batman, directly. Superman can keep tabs on the planet just by looking at it and Flash can be almost everywhere at once, they make Batmans job even easier. Lets not forget Cyborg who is tapped into all the worlds databases 24/7, and works closely with Batman when on League business. The list goes on considering he's the most well connected individual in the entire DC Universe. All I'm saying, is that there are many factors you clearly didn't consider. Bruce has plenty of time on his hands.

Has Bruce Wayne ever taken the time to invest in Arkum Asylum and... whatever Gotham's normal prison is, and made sure that they had actually competent security measures? I've never actually heard any reference to this, but if he doesn't then I say the "revolving door" issue is totally at least partially his fault. He knows the average time criminals spend in those places, and has the resources to at least help.

I’m pretty sure the main prison is blackgate, and Arkham is a shithole of an island that is actually pretty good at keeping everyone in and out, however it’s almost always the joker having men on the outside that leads to any breakouts. Or the guards smuggling shit they shouldn’t in for the inmates, because believe it or not, the inmates are still human and the guards are actually somewhat good friends with some of the more sane patients, like ivy or nigma, but my favorite breakout has to be the one from Harley Quinn Animated series, where riddler eats a seed and shits it out so ivy can break free

Of all the Villians in the DC comics, Bane was always my favorite. People always see him and assume he was all brawn. Some later iterations of him did make him in that aspect. But I've always enjoyed the true version of him. The 90's animated series version has to be my favorite version of him
