Join me and Zach Fowler winner of Season 3 of ALONE on the History Channel. Zach's Playlist: tinyurl.com/yc...
UNLISTED CHANNEL: tinyurl.com/yb...
We weight-in and weigh-out and if we lose any body mass at all, we have FAILED the challenge!
Unlike Naked and Afraid, ALONE, or Survivorman, there is no limit to the tools we are allowed to use on this survival challenge. Living off just WILD foods is harder than you think! If it's legal, it's fair use. Sometime we even do some bushcraft, but the main focus is really on eating wild foods, wild edibles and catching and cooking various foods.
This isn't about just surviving, this is about thriving!
Season 4: Northern Autumn, takes place in Northern Ontario with vast opens seasons including fish, catfish, pike, trout, birds such as grouse, duck, and geese, bear, deer, and moose. Also wild apples, mushrooms, berries, and so much more. We make use of all the resources in this challenge to meet the demands for calories imposed by the human body!
In this episode we move even further off-grid to chase down waterfowl. Birds are a welcome change to eating just beaver and bear meat. We collect a couple as we paddle out to our new camp spot in an area completely unknown to me. We also hope for some fish and other small items like grouse.
Beaver are surprisingly easy to trap and offer a ton of nutrients to the forager. A real staple item! Beaver is also great eating, usually very full of fats crucial to surviving long term in the wild.

Heya, Yesterday I wrote several thousand thoughts on your question of what too change. I deleted the post as as after I read it I found that typing that much on a phone causes many errors. Short answer... Don't change. Reason..... When I ran my business in the beginning I changed several times to gain additional customer base. Findings...... Every change is short lived success followed by the outcry to change again. Success comes slowly stays and grows, change you will gain some and loose some. Just advice from an old man, best you can do is follow your heart. Take care, stay safe, be well Wild man

When you are sitting around during the daylight take your shotgun and make sure it is unloaded. Pull it up to your shoulder and make sure you are looking at the rear sight and the front sight is lined up with it. Do it until every time you bring the shotgun up it ends up in that same place. Do it by yourself so you are really careful to do it right every time. When you end up with the gun mounted correctly you will find you can hit what you are aiming at because you are likely not ending up with the front sight and the rear sight lined up now. It may sound silly but it is an easy exercise, doesn't take a lot of time and it will improve your results.

This is so cool that way you guys are filming this. I suggest anyone that is new to the channel go back to the beginning and watch the other challenges starting with Challenge 1 or if you don't want to go back that far just start with the first episode of challenge 4 with Fowler and Chris they are filming it in a way where Chris's episode I'm sorry the wooded beardsman episodes will come out first and then Fowler's episodes will come out later which I think is awesome. Good job I think you guys have a good shot at gaining or at least retaining your weight on this challenge. Good on you boys

Saw a YT notice this channel needed more traffic. Posting to say I appreciate the content. I grew up a city boy but had some relatives that I learned a bit of hunting and fishing from. My great uncle had a local give him a steer. After humanely euthanizing it, my cousin and I helped him tie the carcass up and prep it. Some of the best meat I've ever had. Gives a person a whole new perspective on where food comes from. I support this channel and other channels who show this type of content. Safe trails to you Beardsman :D

For anyone wondering, there's roughly 4,077 calories in a pound of fat, at roughly 453 grams per pound, and 9 calories per gram. The same amount of protein would only supply 1,812 calories from either carbs or protein...and considering how hard Chris & Zach's bodies are working to not only harvest firewood, and paddle that heavily laden canoe, they're also striving to stay warm (fat + water = burning enough calories to stay warm in winter, so hydrate in winter, not just in summer!)...that's a lot of calories, yes, but still not quite enough! (The recommended 2,000-2,500 calories a day is based on our modern sedentary lives.)

Are there any risks associated with exposing the cast iron to direct flames? All I know about cast iron is limited to using pans on a stovetop. Heating them on high heat instead of medium heat can warp the bottom over time, and leaving them on high heat for a while can burn off the seasoning where it's in direct contact with the element. Those big pots look like ideal wilderness/outdoors gear if you're trying to make a big meal. The only way I could see the cooking get better is if it were on some kind of tripod so that you didn't need to let the fire burn down to coals. That might run into the problem I mentioned earlier though.

And does everything an Axe does with less effort INCLUDING chop down and buck up trees. Plus it digs and you can Shovel coals with it. Brazil Nuts are the bomb for survival. In 12 oz bag, there are 11 servings (approx 6 nuts each). Each serving delivers 200 calories, 180 of which are from fat. Thats 31% of your daily recommended fat allowance......in SIX NUTS!! Each 12 oz bag has 11 servings, so total calories are like 2200....or equal to 2933 cal/lb. Pretty calorically dense, portable, storable, affordable for trips, and delicious. RIGHT??!! Zach was speaking about Macadamia nuts.....which are from Hawaii, delicious, expensive as hell, and I think on par cal. density wise with the Brazil Nut. Cheers Dudes!!

A great product to take out is TrueLemon powder. It can be bought in these little packets like the little salt pkgs at fast food places...only they are tiny Mylar pkgs. One pkg would have kept your applesauce from turning brown. Sprinkle it on fish and on boy it's good. I think it's pure juice crystallized into a fine grain powder. I always tuck a handful into my bedroll.

Would love to invite you to Newfoundland, but dont think we could offer much here that you dont have in OT. Maybe seal in the spring, loads of shellfish and spring greens, although seal season is a bit early for greens. Amazing amount of fat on seal and you can take 4 a day if I remember correctly, as long as there is a market/use for them. The coastal Inuit survived on seal by eating the eyes, organs and fat. Oh and we don't club them like you see in the green peace videos, we use guns.

@@TheWoodedBeardsman its easier than pushing it through the back of the skull and will indeed dispatch them fast either way works an awl to the back of the head or a rabbit pin through the eye or nose just seems easier when you have gloves and or frozen hands. Regardless it works when sometimes neck wringing doesnt. Love your vids man.

Guy's, that Bear meat makes me hungry! Yum! OK, here is the deal with the brown, not so good looking Applesauce, If you don't mind , here is a way to avoid that problem. Try this little trick if you would please: In a large pot combine about 2 liters of cold Water and the juice of a fresh Lemon. The acid of the Lemon is what keeps the Apples from turning brown. Now cut all your Apples into that Lemon Water. When your done preparing the Apples, drain the Water, except for about two cups of the Lemon Water. Return that with the Apples to the cooking Pot and cook until done. For great extra Flavor, ad 1 or 2 Tablespoons of regular or brown Sugar or Honey and a stick of Cinnamon if you like Cinnamon. Pleace cook slowly to avoid Food burn! There you have it, enjoy! One more thing, this whole process should be done in a Aluminum or Stainless Steel Pot, because the Cast Iron will oxidise and turn the Applesauce nasty and that is due to the natural acid content in the Food! Give it a try, I'm sure you'll be pleased. (-:

I've finally had some free time to watch the previous 4 episodes. Personally I'm not to keen on the fat in food especially in meat but when I see you cooking the meat it looks so good man. I'm sure I'd eat any type of meat or stew you made :).

Instructors in survival school told us to cook absolutely everything including fruits/berries, cooking makes everything easier to digest, makes more nutrients available, and kills any bad bacteria.

That's strange because every nutriotinist i've ever read says that cooking destroys nutrients, that's why the Raw primal carnivore diet and raw vegan diets are so popular. Nutrient absorption . I don't know this for fact but literally every nutritionist i've ever listened to or read a book about talks about raw.

@@DaYDreaMzDD It does, but it also frees nutrients up which can be "Fixed" by the digestive system. For example, a cooked Tomato may have more nutrients, but 3/4 of those nutrients go strait through you doing nothing on the way trough.

Vitamin C is all they put in applesauce to prevent Browning(oxidization). Some apple types brown quicker than others depending on Vit C content.
