Both Cher and Nancy Sinatra, recorded this in 1966. It was written by Sonny Bono (of Sonny and Cher), and I think that Cher's version is generally considered the original version. You're absolutely right. The song was written by Sonny and sung by Cher. Sadly for her, now, no one gives a rats ass about her version of the song. Everyone looks for and likes the Nancy version. So much so that people think it's the original. Even more so the evident threat her fans feel that they have to post on every video that it's a Cher song.

I am pretty sure that this not Paolo Nutini - this is TERRY REID I guess, who must be a great influence on him. When I first heard (and saw) Nutini, he reminded me much on Terry Reid, who is one of the most tragic figures in Rock. He turned down Jimmy Page´s offer to sing in Led Zeppelin and suggested Robert Plant as well as turning down the offer to be in Deep Purple so Ian Gillan did it. He is still around and plays Glastonbury almost every year.
