@@zaravind , AchyuthaRaya was the half brother of Krishnadevaraya. He succeeded Krishnaraya after his death. KrishnaRaya personally chose Achyutha as his successor while on death bed. Yes Aliya RamaRaya was the son in law of Krishnaraya who imprisoned AchyuthaRaya and was the defacto king while placing Sadashiva Raya as the new king. SadashivaRaya was probably the son of RangaRaya, another half brother of KrishnaRaya. Reference is the book "The Forgotten Empire" by Robert Sewell who translated the writings of Domingo Paes, Fernao Nunez and other travellers who visited Vijayanagar Empire during its glorious times.

@@zaravind You have to think in terms of time. Back then the geography was a bit different. There were lot more trees, no bridges, no roads or not many roads. It would have been more difficult to access virupaksha temple by cavalry. The invaders' main target was the Vitthala temple as that was the main temple at that time. Much bigger than virupaksha
