Peter is as real as a person gets. Had the pleasure of meeting him & his wife several years ago. We talked about breast cancer of all things. I was wearing a breast cancer awareness pin & he asked me if i had it. Told him it was my mama that had it. He told me his story of having breast cancer & we cried a little bit together & prayed for each other. The man is so fricken amazing!

@scottmiller7001 why wouldn't they? Why couldn't they. My mother had breast cancer & i wore a breast cancer awareness pin. That is what started the conversation between Peter & his wife. He had breast cancer too. His sister was a part of designing the mens breast cancer awareness pin.

Yes, and he was a great, instinctual drummer until around '78. He was never Neil Peart, John Bonham or Bill Bruford, but few are. Unfortunately, substance abuse damaged him physically and mentally, and the same goes for Ace. I am very glad they survived those periods in their lives. When they were at the top of their game, they were both better musicians than Gene or Paul, other than Paul's vocals. I think Peter & Ace have good hearts, but I wish they could have resisted the substance abuse. They would have flourished and grown more musically over the years. I am often turned off by Paul's and Gene's derogatory comments about those things, but they're not entirely off-base, either. It's good that Peter & Ace pulled through, and that at least Ace is still actively creating more music.

He never said he was a John Bonham, Pert or other!!! But, in his prime, he was one of the top 5 drummers in the 70's, literally!!! He had a unique jungle rhythm and jazz filled riffs style, and could hit the skins from 74-78, definitely!!! Best voice of any drummer ever, literally!!! Neil Pert said the exact same thing!!!!

My favorite drummer ever, and very underrated and underappreciated in his own right!!! I challenge anyone to Google old live Kiss shows, anywhere from 74-78!!! Peter Criss is also a very good human being and if you read his book, he is his own biggest critic!!! He says, I thought I was a good drummer in the original years of their hay day, but he was not happy, not just the coke and booze, but Gene and Paul dictating everything!!! He thinks it is a joke that Paul says a John Bohnam he will never be, but Peter says of course, idiot Bohnam was the best ever, nobody will be him!!! Lol

Paul and Gene were lonely , inward and didn’t”t have many friends growing up. Also, I THINK, that their families smothered them more -as many immigrant families do to their kids - and they were ‘less’ American somehow than Peter and Ace. Peter and Ace grew up with less parental supervision and ran riot, had earlier and more sex, had more friends and experimented with drugs and booze as youngsters. Read all the members autobiographies,. Kiss was Gene and Paul’s revenge on the cool kids that ignored them or bullied them. Peter and Ace were probably lore integrated Americans.... the types that would have been doing the bullying. This is just my opinion,, and I love all 4 original members equally. If Peter and Ace were more responsible and committed in the early days of the band, the original 4 would still be killing it today, around the world

The New York Dolls had booked a tour of Canada in 1974. They hired The Michael Quatro Band to open for them. (Michael Quatro happens to be the brother of Suzi Quatro, who is better known to some as Leather Tuscadero, Pinky Tuiscadero's juvenile-delinquent little sister "Happy Days.") At the last minute, The Michael Quatro Band dropped out of the tour, and were replaced by KISS. It turned out to be the 'Dolls' worst nightmare, as Peter Criss auditioned for their vacant drum spot two years earlier, but they decided on (his best friend) Jerry Nolan instead. So, propelled by the vengeful drumming of Peter Criss, KISS totally BLEW AWAY the 'Dolls. When KISS exited the stage, they'd pass the 'Dolls in the hallway of the venue, Peter would pat Jerry Nolan on the shoulder and say, "Sorry, Jerry. Ya know I love ya,, but 'cha know how it goes. Biz'ness is biz'ness."

+YouCantHoldOnTooLong Yes, Peter's album was quite superior. I'd written many of the songs for KISS and not once have I received any credit. Peter was the most honest and congenial of all those jerks, no matter what horrible things they say about this marvelous artist. I remember when I was in the studio with Peter during the solo record sessions he barely needed any of my help. I maybe helped him through a few mild arrangements but nothing to the point where it was necessary for credit but Peter insisted I get some kind of credit. When it came time to design the album covers as well as the typical credit to enigneers, etc. Peter requested my name put on his record as well as Gene and Paul's (Ace was the only member who I had not worked with on the solo projects) but they refused and almost credit a horrible mess of a law suit. The band kept so many of their songwriters under wraps because they wanted to bring this mystique that they had written every track for every record as a collebrative effort as every band would but with KISS this was never never will be true. They are frauds!

I met him before the reunion, and got his autograph. He was really pretty cool. Ace, on the other hand, was a total fucking asshole prick. Still my fave guitar player, though lol the bastard

You can get all kinds of perspective from others, but the one I lived out ranked Peter Criss as a major influence on me as a young drummer in 1976. I played along to Alive II mostly, and Peter’s solo on Alive I, and developed all of his chops. Meanwhile, I played along to Ron Tutt, Ginger Baker, Neil Peart and albums from Boston, Frampton, Foreigner, etc., but few had the musical vibe, life and vocals of Catman Peter! 😻Long live rock! ❤🤘🏻😎🎼🎶🎵🎸🎤🥁

Wow, absolutely the best interview of Peter I've ever seen. My opinion of him just went up several notches. Paul has derided him a number of times for not being a brainiac or intellectual. Perhaps Peter doesn't always use proper grammar or syntax, but neither did Jimi Hendrix. He (and they) understands (understood) the human condition, and the world around them. Intellect and wisdom aren't necessarily synonymous. Peter displays wisdom here.

4 mediocre musicians formed a 100% kickass group. It´s kinda like what he says, it was the time and the place that made kiss. New York . 1973 Amazing times to be a musician i bet.

Mediocre musicians? Maybe. But they wrote great rock and roll songs. They never would have been more than a cult band without those anthems.

Mediocre musicians? I highly disagree. Gene Simmons is the most underrated bassist in rock n roll history. Nobody ever talks about his playing and his bass on all the 70s stuff was golden. Ace Frehley could take a song and throw in the right riff. Peter Criss's solos were amazing in my opinion. Paul Stanley s vocals are just so good, I can't describe it. These guys had talent.
