Angel Witch is that band that the metalhead listens to, when gets a "hipster" acquired like. It is a good band, enjoyable in every record they have. Yet doesn't have a huge impact compared with other bands and still relevant for having that classic NWOBHM sound and structure in their music. It might not be your favourite drink, but it is a good drink anyways and nobody dislikes it.

They used to play "Don't Turn Your Back" back in mid-80s. Recognised it, as soon as I heard it. The current version has been pieced together from the live tape from the Brentford Red Lion (now a carpark) back in March '84. I was there at that show. "The Night is Calling" is even older. I like the way they incorporate these unreleased oldies with new stuff. They did that on the last album.

Im really disappointed in Banger for totally ignoring this album. I get it, fine, it’s none of your cups of tea and you can’t possibly review everything, but at the very least acknowledge it. A lot of people like it. It’s one of Insomnium’s strongest albums to date and one of the years’ best.

Amazing that you even mentioned Screamin' and Frontal albums. They are one of the most underrated albums in metal history. And for me, their best albums. Songs like Evil Games, Waltz the night, Screamin 'N' Bleedin, Fatal kiss and of course Straight from hell... That intro section

Great find, great recommendation. Im usually more into Black/Deathmetal, but this is one really crushes it. The guitars somehow manage to bend my mind - it's a very hypnotic album, great for sleeping too :-)

Of management, market forces and general tastes. Being a movie nut as well as a Metal Head, I tend to use this analogy/example: think of King Diamond being Roger Corman and Metallica is Francis Ford Coppala. A select few of us would rather watch the work of the mentor (i.e., "Death Race 2000") over the works of the protégé (i.e. "Apocalypse Now"). "Death Race 2000" seems to be more raw and more real and less palatable to the mass audience than the latter. At least, that's my take.

I love Sarah’s reviews, she’s so enthusiastic about what she is reviewing, she can sell you anything and you’d be happy to buy it. I heard the new song from this album on KZbin and I was digging on it. Angel Witch is part of that NWOBHM and should’ve been big like Maiden or Saxon. I’ll be definitely picking this up this weekend it sounds really good, I’ll found if it’s better than As Above, So Below because that’s another good one of theirs.

I was slightly worried to hear that "Don't Turn Your Back" was meant to be the best song, since I'd heard it and, although it was really rather good, it didn't seem best-song-on-the-album good. Having now listened to the whole album, I can happily confirm that, while even better than I first thought, "Don't Turn Your Back" is in fact the worst song on the album. All the other songs are awesome.

Frankly i feel that the album is quite mediocre. The band tries (as with the previous album) to capture the feeling of the first album, but after more than 30 years the feeling is gone. Though the compositions are quite nice, the overall production is weak: the vocals are dull, monotonous and not mixed very well. Moreover having seen the band live twice i'd say that they performed some of the most boring shows. Don't get me wrong, i love them, i bought Angel Witch (Bronze re-issue) back in late 90s and listening to it since then but i feel that they are trying too much to re-capture the essence of the early days and finally they miss it somewhere along. Anyways i liked the review. Never thought that there would be Americans that liked Wotan and Ironsword.
