I've been working on downsizing my life in order to move 2,500 miles across country. In the process I've found this freedom that comes with leaving behind material items. Now watching as you have downsized and ventured out on this traveling quest I am inspired! Thank you for showing us how you really can go travel with a backpack of items. :)

I had a similar train ride experience going from Toledo to Granada, Spain. Even had the train officials searching under my seat for a stoway' s belongings in the middle of the night...not that I was sleeping but frightening and confusing none the less. Thanks for sharing!

Great video. Brought back so many happy memories....from 82 to 2007..last time I went there.....the noise and volume of traffic both in Bangkok and Chiang Mai horrendous....but the friendliness of Thai folk make up for it....as does the superb food and great hotels/guest houses....going back next year. Can't wait....I remember the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai....1st time I went was in a sleeper carriage with air con and sealed windows. Never again....food was pretty good ion the train though

I took a second class bus from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and was actually very impressed. It was fairly inexpensive, they fed us and showed a movie! Of course it was an American movie dubbed in Thai with English subtitles LOL! Maybe that could be a more comfortable affordable option for you at some point. Supposedly the first class buses are even better, however I was pretty happy on the second class bus! Keep the great videos coming!

Being Thai myself, I've never been to Chiang Mai yet. But all of my friends who travelled to Thailand loved the city. Seeing you travel by a night train reminds me of my childhood when I took a night train to the south, very fun for a kid, but was tiring for my parents. Just for information, you can also travel by Air Asia or other low cost airlines, which cost around 30-40 pound for a return ticket. I hope you had a good time there and in Thailand.

I think it is so neat when you post these vids! I'm so into them. They really are so neat. I doubt I will ever go there, but I love seeing it all. I'm amazed at how cheap the rooms are. When you get back do you think you can list all the places you stayed and maybe if all the rooms were okay or not? Just an idea. That stinks about the train being cold/loud/bright! OMG I hate being cold! I live in FL and bring a light sweater with me everywhere here because they blow air cond. so hard in stores

Should have got the sleeper. What were you thinking... I rode the night train from Hanoi to Da Nang in Vietnam. Shared a cabin with 2 locals, they all brought blankets and 2 grabbed the bottom bunks first. The trains blast the AC all night and the top bunks have the AC vent about 12 inches away. Live and learn.

OH my goodness! This just reminded me about something she said a long time ago! People kept asking her if she was going to get braces or straighten her teeth with veneers and she said that she would probably do it in Thailand or similar b/c it's so much cheaper. I wonder if she plans on doing it now that she'll be there for 3 months.

Yeah, that's the only thing about renting. BUT, with owning a house, you have to fix your own stuff or hire someone. I like that our landlord always has someone to fix something. And if it's something we fix ourselves, he just docks it off our rent. The trailer we're in is pretty old, so it's starting to get in rough shape. Luckily nothing that isn't fixable has happened yet though. I've heard that about kids too. I definitely think it'll be worth it. Oh and good luck to you too! :)

I don't think your comment sound silly at all but for some people travelling and exploring the world comes naturally and leaving one's comfort zone is what makes life worth living. Also, if you are creative travelling will help to generate new ideas for your work. Christine & Michael, from what they say, only had to give up rented accommodation and are saving money by not having to pay utility bills while they travel. Think they are very fortunate and in an ideal position to travel.
