Someone wrote somewhere that the ballade in F-Sharp Major by Fauré was "une divine éternité d'un quart d'heure". In this Pie Jesu, Amira gives us only a three minutes long divine eternity... Thanks to her. And a great reaction, William, as usual.

The tempo of Amira singing When you wish upon a star was extremely slow, not a criticism but to highlight how difficult it was to pull it off. It is gorgeous in my opinion.

Yes, wonderful piece of music when in the hands of good singers. An d a nice reaction again, thank you. By the way: Amira has dropped a brand new song on her video channel a few weeks ago: "Amen". It will completely surprise you, that's for sure. Not that it is a religious song (that's part of amira, as we all know), but musically it is really different.

Ah. Another gem. - I thought you'd given up on Amira. I'm glad she can still deliver something to tempt you! Thank for the reaction William. Wiki says the requiem was first performed in 1888 (?) So it thinks it was written in the 1880s. It's a delightful piece of music.

Fauré made changes up until 1900 and that’s the version we all hear now. He wrote the work in between 1887 and 1890 but finally signed off on it in 1900!! It’s surprising how many composers fiddle with their compositions!! Lovely to hear from you. Do you think Amira’s breathing is conspicuous in this?

@@BangkokVoiceCoach yes, her breathing is noticeable, which detracts, I put it down to the sound system, being rather sensitive, I watched the church service live, when it was streamed and there was the same problem with the other two pieces she sang. I have watched a couple of other similar services, the sound is sometimes iffy in different ways. Muffled for example. In at least one of them, Amira was signalling to the sound guy to make an adjustment, but I didn't detect much change. It's a problem with small off the cuff performance's and venues.

Love Faure's Requiem. It sounds quite different to me, no expert at all, from say, Verdi. Peaceful and contemplative. Lovely music.

Yes Verdi’s Requiem often sounds like the end of the would is coming. Fauré’s Requiem sounds like tea is coming to the drawing room.

She is singing with a backing track so she does not really have control over tempo and rubato. I just wonder why she breathes with such effort. Every intake of breath reverberates through that microphone. Personally I don't like the high ending but I am sure that for her fans she can do no wrong.

I don’t think Fauré would have been keen on a rewrite as he was a purist about his own music. What composer isn’t!!? I wonder what the fans think about taking compositional decisions with the ending. It’s done a lot these days, Nanette. Wouldn’t Puccini have written a high A flag if he had wanted!!? (O Mio Babbino.) We must have a discussion about breath that is noisy on mic. I don’t think it’s as bad as you. She’s not over-peaking the levels while singing. It’s just a reverberate space.

@@BangkokVoiceCoach With this particular song I much prefer the original ending... because it leaves it hanging with you in it's ownership of the air at the end as it was throughout - Amira's voice is so lovely, I personally don't need every song she sings to end on a high note... I just love her voice..!

Imo her old repertoire might not suite her changed adult voice, as with this piece. She is more dramtic as an adult and accordingly should switch repertoire to for example her latest Phantom of the opera. Think it is Lloyd-Webber's Pie Jesu on her first cd. She sang this version on her second cd - the Christmas one. Both are noted for their very high pitch, because she was so young. I think Sony encouraged it too. She talks about it with her vocal coach on the ' behind the scenes' album making video. ' They asked me to sing it a full note higher.
